Early weather reports for The Game

Submitted by Hank Hill on November 16th, 2023 at 12:07 PM

Extended forecasts - which have historical accuracy ~80% - are showing temperatures in the mid 30’s, with a 25% chance of precipitation and a 100% chance of Michigan domination. What is your personal preference for weather? Another snowy game like ‘21? Beautiful weather similar to Columbus last year? A rare rainy affair between the two teams? Do you think either team has an inherent advantage one way or another with any type of weather? Feel free to neg away if this is taking up precious board space, but whatever you do, fergodsakes leave the charcoal at home!

Yeah it was flurries in the morning and during the first half.  Then steadier snow in the 2nd half and a lot of snow after the game.  I remember knocking about 2 inches of snow off our tailgate tents during tear down 2 hours after the game.  And driving on I-94 to St Joseph the only reason I knew I was on the road was because of the cat eyes and rumble strips.  Ended up taking 4 hours to drive the normal 2 hour trip home.

During the game you are correct. After the game was another story. What normally takes 2 hours driving took us four and a half hours. Of course I didn't care because I was three sheets to the wind and the sober wife had to drive the first  3 hours to reach Toledo. From there it was a breeze to Fort Wayne for my part. Happiest of drives EVER!

There were periods of snow a few hours before and during the first half. The second half started with a few flurries then the steady snow picked up during the 4th quarter.

The playing field has spotty snow on it as the game began and it had melted by half time. The field was getting snow covered later in the 4th quarter.

If that's what you call barely snowed, then it was not a blizzard.

OSU is fake tough this year..trying more defense and inside running than they did years before but you are about to face the real...weather won't matter...it's the real vs the fake

In '21 it didn't snow all that much during the game. Afterward, yes, absolutely, but the game itself was relatively clear (though flakes started coming down during the on-the-field celebration).

I am fine with pretty much any weather except the rain. A cold rain is absolutely miserable. An otherwise forgettable 2008 Northwestern @ Michigan game is engrained into my memory because it kept switching between rain and snow. It was awful.

Blizzard.  68 straight running plays by us in a real ‘whiteout’ game with those ohio players glued to the bench, heads down, freezing, as we score again and again.

I believe checking a weather forecast two weeks before a game constitutes unfair advanced technological surveillance of a future opponent. Tony Pettiti will say that is...

Bad weather is better for Michigan.

Our DL can eat up their OL and make passing even more difficult.

Bad weather makes playing on the road even more challenging.

Also, crowd needs to be loud;  I think this was a big factor in putting the passing game in the barn at PSU.

Bad weather + at home + loud crowd = (unfair) advantage Michigan.

As with 2021, I will be dressed in full ski gear from head to toe...to be prepared to stay the whole game regardless of the weather.

Careful. OSU will claim that the advance knowledge of the weather will unduly advantage Michigan, and that we are endangering their players by knowing that it will be cold that day.

The Commissioner will call this “the worst scandal in college football history” and suspend Harbaugh 8,512 games.

personal preference for weather?

Cold, slight snow.  I want the buckeyes to come out of the tunnel in front of 100,000 enraged fans and have one thought: "oh no... here we go again."

I'm taking my 7yo to the game for his first UM-OSU experience.  My wife is nervous about it being cold/uncomfortable but I just keep saying "it's late fall football weather! It's perfect!"  We'll see.  Our son's been informed that we're not leaving early under any circumstance :)

He's only been watching games with me since 2021 and went to his first game in person earlier this year, so all he knows is us winning.  His level of confidence in the win is at level 100 right now, as it should be.

As an aside, he met JJ McCarthy and Jim Harbaugh last year so he is HOOKED now and tells everyone he wants to go to UM when he's older.  As parents, kind of fun for my wife (also a UM grad) and I to see the exact moment the light goes on in a kid...
