I like cultivate but I swear half the time I go in there I'm the only guy without a man bun.  Feel a little out of place.

I saw the headline and thought "Oh no, Patterson is transferring?!"

I need more coffee.

This was 15 years ago but the students working at the Subway in the basement of the Union had a BLATENT disregard for the guidelines on how much stuff they're supposed to put in a sub.  Ask for everything and you'd basically end up with two subs worth of stuff crammed into one bun.

The Heidelberg has free chicken wings and nachos from 5-7pm on Friday (unless they've changed recently).  That used to be 90% of my Friday caloric intake.

04/12/2018 - 3:22pm I imagine every Michigan game

I imagine every Michigan game is still going to find its way onto one Comcast channel or another, at least in the local area... This is going to be a blow to the Minnesotas and Illinoises of the conference, though.

04/10/2018 - 11:39am It has ranged, though. Hoke

It has ranged, though. Hoke spring "games" were mostly drills and limited contact offense vs defense exercises with unintelligible scoring rules. Last couple Harbaugh spring games have been a lot closer to regular football, minus special teams.

If you put yourself in the mindset of the time period I imagine this law was written, if she had been married they probably would have hauled her off for adultery.

Seriously I did a little more reading.  Best as I can tell this law is Section 750.532 of Act 328 of 1931 of the Michigan Penal code.  It's tucked in there between "it's a felony to injure someone during an attempted bank robbery" and "it's a misdemeanor to operate a slaughterhouse within 20 rods of a highway".

Yes, rods.

03/27/2018 - 12:59pm I think when the news broke

I think when the news broke yesterday that he was being arrested, we assumed that it was for failure to investigate/act in regards to what Nassar was doing, like what put the PSU higher ups in jail.

But this... is much worse.

03/19/2018 - 12:59pm NIT is experimenting with an

NIT is experimenting with an overtime rule whereupon if one team makes three baskets in a row, 2 more minutes are added on to the clock.

03/17/2018 - 1:02pm 538 has UCONN at a 77% chance

538 has UCONN at a 77% chance to win the entire women's tournament.  By comparison the highest for the men is Villanova, at 20%.

There seems to be a huge amount of talent disparity in women's sports.

01/28/2018 - 2:33am You guys do remember that

You guys do remember that Gary Moeller went 8-4 each of his last two seasons, right?

01/28/2018 - 2:17am call me a cynic but I don't

call me a cynic but I don't think State fires their most successful football and basketball coaches of all time simply because of a "culture problem".  There'd have to be real honest "a crime was committed by this specific individual we legally can't ignore it" for that to happen.

01/28/2018 - 1:27am I'll be the first to admit it

I'll be the first to admit it if I'm wrong, but I don't see Dantonio or Izzo getting forced out over this.  Unless the new investations find paper trails showing them deliberately ignoring / actively covering up sexual assaults, they'll be fine.

I would think he'd be a better fit with the Vikings, given his proclivity for turning purple.

"I hope that the right person was convicted"

What in the shit is that supposed to be?  Is Izzo seriously expressing doubt that they got the right guy?  I can't believe he would say that but I don't know how else to interpret that statement.

01/19/2018 - 1:35pm No, it's not normal.

No, it's not normal.  Although it's not normal for a criminal to have 100+ victims of serious crimes, either.  In this particular case though I believe one article said that this situation was one of the conditions of his plea deal.

01/18/2018 - 1:25pm Apparently it's a condition

Apparently it's a condition of his plea bargin.

01/08/2018 - 1:38pm I'm seeing some rumbling on

I'm seeing some rumbling on the net that Nagy scripted some early stuff for the Chiefs game against the Titans but then turned play calling back over to Reid.  Of course the Chiefs offense started hot and then fell off a cliff.

Shades of M vs OSU 2015 when it seemed like DJ Durkin spent a lot more time working on his head coaching resume than he did game planning for OSU's offense.

12/21/2017 - 1:05pm Now that UFRs are sponsored,

Now that UFRs are sponsored, I believe Brian is obligated to do the UFRs sooner or later.  For the Ohio State game, it definitely trends towards "later".  Like, maybe in the spring or summer.

Macy's is such a Notre Dame place to shoplift from.  What did they steal, Martha Stewart Collection bed linens?

So... was the visit to the gameday set in itself the violation?  Or was there something else inappropriate that happened that is not being directly mentioned?

12/17/2017 - 10:00am I feel like my opinion of

I feel like my opinion of this film in the long term will depend on how well Episode IX builds on it and ends the story.

I remember feeling the same way after watching the second Matrix movie and we all know how that turned out.

The extended starship chase made no sense - why didn't the First Order send some of its ships on a short hyperspace jump in front of the fleeing resistance?

12/13/2017 - 3:06pm Santa Claus: Comes down your

Santa Claus: Comes down your chimney while you're sleeping, leaves you presents, leaves.

Harbaugh Claus: Comes down your chimney, wakes up you and your siblings, makes you all run laps.  Fastest gets best presents.

12/12/2017 - 1:00pm I have definitely gotten

I have definitely gotten malware from mgoblog a couple times in the past.  Not for the last several months though.

12/07/2017 - 1:42pm Would hate to have him not

Would hate to have him not play but would understand his reasoning.  He's already put in one more regular season at U of M than he really needed to.

So who does Oregon get?  Brady Hoke's available... probably.

12/05/2017 - 3:35pm No more split titles due to

No more split titles due to championship game.  Greater parity in league, and more teams.  All working against us.  No denying we haven't been great for quite a while, though.

I just want to see that last name on the back of a Michigan jersey.

Thanks, I missed that in my survey.  I will update accordingly.

11/29/2017 - 11:27am 13th all time in both wins

13th all time in both wins and percentage, 6 national championships.  They're definitely one of the top 10-15 programs all time.  Haven't done much lately, but they hunger to return to glory.  Sound like any other teams we know?

11/29/2017 - 11:11am Jeff Brohm's resume: real

Jeff Brohm's resume: real good at a CUSA school, one okayish year at Purdue.  Let's hire him at one of the all-time football powerhouses.

Brady Hoke nods in approval.

11/28/2017 - 12:26pm Remember, here is the

Remember, here is the official procedure for the official in charge of calling delay of game:

1. The official watches the play clock.

2. When the playclock hits zero, the official stops looking at the play clock, and looks at the players.

3. If the ball has not been snapped, the official calls delay of game.

The action of changing attention as described in step two creates a lag between when the play clock shows zero and when the penalty will be called.  This creates freeze frame situations in which the clock is shown to be zero, the ball has not been snapped, but no penalty is assessed.

This happened to both Michigan and Ohio State at least a few times in the game.

11/27/2017 - 11:59am Who is the Don Brown of

Who is the Don Brown of offensive coordinators?  Sometime coordinating at a mid tier school where his side of the ball is playing lights out, but the team keeps losing 55-47.

11/27/2017 - 11:20am A better coach isn't going to

A better coach isn't going to make players worse, exactly... although it's not always easy to really know if your'e getting a better coach or not.  There are only so many Don Browns in the world.

I'm just wondering, who's going to be better?  A senior offensive lineman who has had the same good-but-not-great line coach for 4 years, or the same lineman who has had 3 different coaches teaching three different techniques, even though the last one is a great coach?

11/27/2017 - 11:03am I know people are looking for

I know people are looking for various offensive coaches to blame for our not-so-good offense, and then hoping for those coaches to be reassigned/fired/whatever... but I can't help but wonder if stability might be more valuable.  Is it better to hang onto a B- coach for a few years and actually have players who have been taught by the same person?

11/23/2017 - 12:02am I won't call you names. I

I won't call you names. I will just be honest and straightforward.

Your constant negativity makes the blog less enjoyable for everyone else.

That might be tolerable if your negativity was accompanied by unique insight or analysis, but it's not. It's the same thing everyone else is thinking, just with more cynicism.

The threshold for a post being allowed to stay on the blog is that it provides value. Insight, analysis, entertainment. Any of those. But you don't.

11/21/2017 - 3:30pm "The biggest unknown is who

"The biggest unknown is who will play quarterback. Harbaugh has OSU’s game-planning right where he wants it…not knowing which of 3 QBs will play."

Silver lining so thin you need an electron microscope to see it.

11/21/2017 - 11:35am Should be required reading

Should be required reading for all members of the "sky is falling" crowd.

I think as fans our biggest sin in the offseason was throwing all of the national experts who said we'd take a step back under the bus.  It's one think to dismiss the blatent SEC homers and their ilk, but we did a fair bit of bashing of people who we'd otherwise have no reason to except that they weren't predicting as many wins for Michigan this year as we were.

11/20/2017 - 4:57pm How would you quantify

How would you quantify Folding Under Adversity?

I can think of several counterexamples, in which we fell behind in games, then battled back and eventually won.  It's just that those were games that we were expected to win, so they don't count as upsets - unless you started keeping track at halftime.

Maybe that's your stat right there.  What's Michigan's record when losing at halftime?  How do we stack up against the comparables there?

11/20/2017 - 4:11pm There's only so much reading

There's only so much reading about Ohio State I can stomach in an effort to answer that question.  However, it looks like they have a starting lineman on each side of the ball out for the year, plus a couple other injuries.

11/20/2017 - 3:02pm When Brian does his season

When Brian does his season preview, he phrases his worst case as "not counting massive injury issues".  I feel like we're approaching that territory now.  First string QB out.  Second string QB ineffective.  Third string QB out.  Early leading reciever out.  Two most veteran recievers nagged by injuries.  Two of top three tailbacks nagged by injuries.  I know every team has to deal with them, but we don't have the depth right now to plug and play.

2008 Vs. Wisconsin, in Rodriguez's first year.  Only one I can think of.

11/20/2017 - 2:54pm Could it have something to do

Could it have something to do with the fact that, most of the time, we've been pretty good?  We're usually only underdogs against the Ohio States and Alabamas of the world.  Rutgers gets to be an underdog against Illinois and Purdue, and get wins sometimes.

The meme always used to be that Michigan's All-Time record on games featured on ESPN Classic was abysmal.  And this is back when Lloyd Carr was the coach.  Recent years have not improved the trend.

11/15/2017 - 1:42pm Falling on the ball is the

Falling on the ball is the quickest, surest way to get it.  Trying to scoop and run has a greater reward but a greater risk as well, as you might miss or fumble the pickup and the other team might get it.  I was always drilled, in middle and high school, to just fall on the ball.

You're right that in the particular case of a blocked punt, there's much less risk because even if the punting team recovers it you still get the ball.  But it's hard to go against what you've been drilled to do.

11/15/2017 - 9:42am your chart ends at WWWW.

your chart ends at WWWW.  Should be WWWWW.  Wins against Wisconsin, Ohio State, Big Championship, Playoff Semifinal, Playoff Championship.

538 says we have a 7% chance of winning out, and a 4% chance of making the playoff if we do.

11/13/2017 - 12:16pm Fully one third of my EECS

Fully one third of my EECS 280 class got reported to the engineering Honor Council for alledgedly cheating.  Apparently everyone's code looked a little too similar for comfort.  I wasn't reported myself so I don't know how it turned out for everyone.  There's kind of a large grey area between collobrating on work and cheating, I guess.
