College Game Day Open Thread

Submitted by M-Dog on October 16th, 2021 at 9:12 AM

They have officially jumped the shark: They are back at Georgia after just a few weeks.  They need to just change the name to SEC Game Day already.

Even the Georgia fans are bored, not that many have even bothered to show up.

Hey man, if you are out of interesting ideas then at least get creative . . . go to Yale at UConn and see if UConn can get their first win.  Something.  Anything.  Not this snoozer.

I'll offer a very weak argument in their defense ... today's slate of games doesn't offer much in the way of highly-ranked teams going against each other.

Usually when that happens, they get creative and go for something completely different . . . service academies, FCS teams, etc.  A whole different direction.

It's not a big national matchup when they do that, but the energy and enthusiasm are off the wall at the place they visit. They are thrilled to be featured.

The Georgia fans are asleep today. Even they're bored. Been there done that.

Its a cool morning here in Georgia at the moment as well overcast/rainy (an hour or so west of Athens). Haven’t seen any of the show but it could explain the tepid fan response. That, and even as good as Kentucky is presently its not the same as playing Florida, Tennessee, or Alabama. This was the only good choice for a traditional game this week but as others have said, this was a week to get creative.

Whereupon Tucker will have an angry, emotional presser right before the Michigan game denying any such rumors and insists he's staying with his damn strong football team.

Then he'll be introduced as the new LSU coach after the regular season is over.

This scenario aside, I still think Meyer is the logical choice for those loons down in Baton Rouge.

We have "twofer" potential here.

1. LSU could buy *really* high with Tucker and wind up at the Orgeron level again. Funny.

2. Sparty could lose a coach after two years, which never looks good. The departure would clearly show where they are in the pecking order. They'd have to go shopping again and they'd have another opportunity to screw up the hire. Also funny.

"I'm just trying to protect college football"  -- James Franklin

Can I just take this moment to say - FUCK OFF, Frames!  It was pretty clear what his defense was doing...  Ole Miss did it, too, on Arkansas' last drive last week.  At one point, the camera was showing the Rebels DL just standing around, and a DT looked towards the bench then slowly went down on his back while holding his knee.  Complete bullshit.

Franklin is awful...

The Bearcats deserved this GameDay. I also dream one day of GameDay in Ypsilanti in front of the brick dick. Shut down cross street and get them some pizza from Tower Inn during the commercial.

Going to be a lot of Sparty love over the next two weeks.

You know what’s funny is that they don’t like being an “expected to be good” program.  I was talking with a coworker and said “It nice you guys are back to where you are expected to be” and he took that as an insult and said “we are not expected to be good.”

They love to play the chip on their shoulder and disrespect card and when they don’t have that they really have nothing.

Perhaps College Game Days needs a wake up call, pun intended on the fans seemingly asleep this morning. These decisions are made up by producers, top execs and the the show's panel members. Hard to blame any one person or persons and I suspect TV ratings should also suffer.

Until these execs can see that, maybe they'll get more creative in selecting a site in the near future.

Yes, this really was a blown opportunity by GameDay.  Remarkably, GameDay has never done a D-2 game.  Not once, it's the only division they haven't covered.

If not Allendale/Grand Rapids today, there were a couple other solid D-2 options for today.  Valdosta State @ West Alabama and West Georgia @ West Florida are both top-20 matchups in the division.

Skipping Cincinnati was fine, given there's another very viable Bearcat home game (SMU @ Cincinnati) coming up on November 20.  But going back to Georgia for the 2nd time in 15 days is just kind of ............ bleh.

This would’ve been a great week to go to some big FCS matchup or somewhere else outside of the box. They did Times Square in NYC a few years ago just to do something different. Instead they went right back to Athens after being there two weeks ago.

I doubt even most UGA fans are that excited about this matchup. The remainder of their schedule outside of Florida is a relative snoozer, and with Florida already having two losses it would take a monumental collapse for Georgia to not already be making gameplans for Alabama in the SEC title game.

If only for the sake of doing something different, go to Knoxville for Kiffin’s return to UT. Should be a big game and electric atmosphere at night with a lot of emotionally charged UT fans. First sell out in Neyland Stadium in years.

Who cares if UT sucks? It’s supposed to be a roadshow. The UT fans would’ve showed out better than UGA after just being there.

I laughed at the dentists and Kentucky sign. I was intrigued by the moontruth.net signs. I had to check it out.
