Outside of the Utah game Harbaugh hasn't asked rudock to get a lot of passing yards. He's actually done the opposite and has tried to establish a run game, I seen multiple drives where he didn't even call a pass play. I'd bet about half them pass plays on that chart are some sort of screen, basically a run play. Yeah he's turned the ball over too many times but he hasn't had much time to get in a rhythm. I can 100% guarantee Harbaugh hasn't unleashed the offense yet because we haven't seen peppers!! It's vanilla because it doesn't need to be anything else yet, why let the cat out the bag? I'd be willing to bet we will see a lot more down the field passing starting this week. Rudock should get going and connect on the td's he's been missing on. If you're writing him off after three games go root for another team.

Just to throw this out there. I believe BYU had 7.1 yards per play against Nebraska. A big boost to that was the hail mary and obviously Taysom Hill. WIthout Hill in their last two games they have averaged 4.6 yards and 5.6 yards per play. I believe Michigan has the better defense and it looks like a slight advantage on the offensive side of the ball. When you remove Hill, BYU is averaging 5 yards per play. I know this isn't a huge difference, but it does change it a little bit. Especially when you consider Michigan probably has a top 15 defense, and BYU has a middle of the road defense.

need to make them aware first that byu is any good. To most of the 100,000 it's another mid major. They don't read blogs, and as for the students, a fair number take off at the end of the 3rd in tie games to hit up a sorority party. I wish it was more of a home field advantage, but i've never seen that against a noncon team except notre dame...even though ND was mediocre. To the casuals, it's all about name recognition

Still not sure if BYU is anything better than average. Needed a gift Hail Mary to beat a not very good Nebraska team, needed a last minute td to avoid losing to Boise St at home and then lost at UCLA despite Rosen having a brutally bad game. If their QB was anyone besides a 21 yr old freshman, would they have even been considered a top 25 teams after the first two games?

Depends on that definition... I think we're better than average with our top-10 recruiting classes +Harbaugh... With that said, we're still under achieving. The classes we've had should make us as good as MSU is or better. So I'd say we're better than your average NCAA D1 team, we'll go to a bowl game... Are we Top-25 good? We'll see if we can beat BYU, I'd say yes.

BYU has allowed 12 sacks so far which is tied with Iowa St. for the most in FBS football. Michigan has a really good front 7 which will clog the run game and really disrupt their passing game. I am expecting at least 4 sacks for Michigan.

On offense, BYU is small and fast. Not what you want against a power run offense. As long as Michigan grounds and pounds them between the tackles, I expect them to eventually wear down their 74th ranked run defense.

Oh. Still not accurate. Their DL goes 6'8 280, 6'2 300, 6'4 280. Their LB's are 6'4 225, 6'1 200, 61' 235, 6' 230. That's basically Taco, Glasgow, Hurst on DL and Reuben Jones (but starter skill level), two Des Morgans, and a Peppers at LB. With the one exception of the dude who is small and probably fast, their front 7 is roughly the same size as ours. I don't classify our defefnse as small and fast.

Mangum is unpolished but he's a good qb. He was lights out on third downs yesterday. Whether ucla brought pressure or dropped into coverage, he was making great throws and using his legs when he had to. The only issues I've seen with him so far is he sometimes gives up on a play too fast and takes off and he has a tendency to chuck the ball up in jump ball fashion. The latter isn't too big a deal when your receivers average 6'4 in height.

21-16 Michigan.

Isaac and Johnson almost exclusively get all the carries. Rudock plays well, but still throws 1 pick. Butt has a big role and we throw plenty of stretch screens. The D comes up big in the 4th.

I expect to win this game.

Rudock has to play better. That means no interceptions and/or several connections on deep passes. As I am not confident that either will happen I predict BYU wins 23-13.The way Rudock is playing tells me UM will go 6-6 this season. I thought he would be better than what he has shown. I'm disappointed to say the least. UM has a good enough team to win 10 games, but the QB play has been so subpar that that looks unattainable.

I'll take Michigan 24-21 in a very good game. I think the defense gets another two interceptions and Jake throws for 2 tds and 1 interception. I also think the running game goes for 150+ yards.

I also had us at 8-5 this year with losses to Utah, BYU, OSU, MSU, and one other team. With the loss of BYU's QB though, I think Michigan could pull this out. If they pull this one out, I think they could get double digit wins with a bowl win. Which to me, would be over-achieving.

If Rudock can protect the football better than Rosen did, I think UM is good to go. BYUs offense really couldnt move the ball much on UCLA.

Itll be a low scoring affair, Ill go:

UM 20

BYU 13

B1G Winning

September 20th, 2015 at 12:42 PM ^

Theres a reason Michigan has been playing very vanilla in all facets of the game. Honestly, did some of you expect Harbaugh and co to open up the playbook just to pad their lead against a terrible UNLV team? UNLV was never in the game. They never had a chance to win. This team isn't going to the playoffs, so style points count for nothing. What does count is another tally in the win column while still concealing most of their offensive and defensive schemes/plays. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if UM goes with another vanilla gameplan this week. This isn't a must win, and this team can be competitive with most teams. BYU's record is padded with two explicit acts of divine intervention. Fortunately for us, I think Bo will pull some strings in favor of the good guys this Saturday (serious, not serious.) Save all the stops for when MSU comes into The Big House ranked #3 in the nation. While a national championship is not attainable at this point in time..a B1G championship is.

you had me until "vanilla game plan next week." There is no way harbaugh is going to tank any game intentionally and this isn't Bo'd days when from the onset they knew they could destroy byu 56-0, so they'd spend the week practicing for ohio. Michigan will run real plays until and unless the outcome is determined. They want to reach decent bowls too if not the playoff - and btw, if you think a CCC is attainable, then so is the playoff. This game does matter unless you think the team's ceiling is like 4 wins Not to mention your strategy would lead to losses against minnesota and northwestern too

BYU crowds the line of scrimmage to slow down our running game, and to force Rudock to beat them with his arm. He doesn't.

This is going to be a very interesting look into Harbaugh's coaching mind. Some are saying that we've kept things very vanilla on offense just to keep our capabilities hidden from future opponents, with the implication that he'll pull stuff out of the bag for BYU. Others are thinking he'll stay vanilla because he only really cares about the conference. Skeptics might say that we've run what we've run because that's the only stuff Harbaugh has any confidence in the team being able to do. Will he be as close-to-the-vest as Bo and Lloyd, or will he open things up a bit? And do we have a QB that is capable of executing the latter option?

Just ran 1000 computer simulations. Most common score was 122-0 Michigan. Mean points for each team was 74-2 Michigan. Michigan has a 100% chance of winning.
