Brendan Quinn on Beilein/Pistons: It could actually happen

Submitted by LS And Play on

Quinn is pretty connected to the Beilein camp and seems to think there is genuine interest from both sides. He goes into further detail in a piece for the Athletic.

1) This ain't about John Beilein leveraging for more money.
2) The Pistons are quite serious about Beilein
3) This could actually happen.

That and much more, here:https://t.co/m60AIgeBfU

He was a little guy with a whiny voice who was trying too hard to be liked. I instantly disliked him but hats off to him for being way more successful than I will ever be.

I read the article. Doesn’t really have new information and seems like Quinn is just looking for an angle to keep the story alive right now while we wait for an outcome. Doesn’t mean Beilein isn’t considering the job but this article doesn’t present any compelling insider knowledge.

There is 0 chance. And for those of you trying to sell this as Beilein reaching the pinnacle in his profession give me a fucking break. Nobody cares about the NBA. Let me reiterate this. There is a less than zero chance of this happening.

the Pistons can fuck off. The NBA sucks and the people that like it are snooty bandwagon fan wannabes. They buy those shitty jerseys and walk around in them everywhere like a Chad. "Oh but Lebronny Mcfuckfuck Curry and Duranty McHardenfart Westbrooky!" they will cry. Well good for you, you frozen taquito eating, budlite guzzling shitstain excuse for a sport fan. May you trip while wearing your favorite $200 shoes of Stephon McLebronnynutz and roll into the path of city bus. Surely the earth average iq would increase by 10 to 15.

It's not period, end of story.

NHL and MLB are substantially superior to their collegiate counterparts.

And I like college basketball as much as you do, but don't act like the NBA regular season is crap and the college basketball season is some magical ride.

The regular season in college bball can be a total slog.

I love the college basketball season. Two games a week gets me through the boring winter months.

I could never watch another nba game for the rest of my life and be just fine.

I would watch Michigan-Alabama A&M over any Detroit Pistons game, 10/10.

I would watch Duke against NC Central, Kansas against Incarnate Word etc etc.

The NBA finals are the only thing remotely interesting because it's the only teams that have a shot to win the thing. I have the game on in the background right now.

You don't represent everyone. You represent yourself.

Don't say things and just say "period, end of story" as though you speak for everybody.

I love college basketball. But the NBA playoffs (other than the last conference series) are very, very intriguing and intense. If you don't like them, fine.

and the only time I watch any f'in' Duke is if I hear they're trailing late against some team they're supposed to beat. I'm no NBA fan, but there are absolutely quality regular-season NBA match-ups to watch that are far superior to having to listen to some dipshit slurp and prattle on about the greatness of coach K just to fill the airwaves during a boring laugher of Duke beating up on some bottom-feeder.

Michigan, on the other hand, yeah, I watch everything.

I'm not trying to impugn Quinn here because he does a good job reporting, but a lot of this sounds like PR spin from the Pistons and less from Beilein. Just a lot of anonymous sources who claim to know how talks went, JB's thought process, etc. It's just doesn't seem like much of anything beyond a front office without a voice having a lot of people talking and trying to look important. Which wouldn't surprise me, but I'm not seeing much fire around this smoke.

If Quinn is close to the Belein camp then he is probably just putting this out there to make it seem like an actual thing.

Enough. I’m queuing up Liam in Taken and learning a ‘certain set of skills’. Sorry Brandon, you’re not ultimately the one who’ll make the decision, but you know...

I don’t want him to leave for obvious reasons, but I also think he would regret it if he did, unless all he cares about his money then retiring. The Celtics are owning that conference for the next 10 years.

Is too late in his career to turn around the shitshow that is the Pistons. Got a feeling that Quinn is just trying to sell more subscriptions to the rag that he writes for. Being that he just recently moved over to that publication he’s just trying to make his mark now.

I want JB to stay however I am sure he is having fun imaging the play calls in the NBA  the potential permutations to get to a win.

It just won't happen. There's no way it's more than just being curious about the process. Even Kyrie Irving says only a conspiracy nut would believe Beilein's leaving.

...how many clicks Brendan Quinn got today.  #clickbait

It doesn't matter who it is:  When you're looking for leverage, you show interest in the other job.  Who would say to a potential employer "I'm not really interested, I'm just using you as negotiating leverage."

This is going to drive me nuts until we get word that he is staying. Beilein is such a perfect representative of Michigan that a part of my soul would die if he left. I just think of all the great moments Beilein has had over his Michigan career that he wouldn’t be able to have in the pros. His job is much more meaningful here where he can change lives.

or go to the Pistons, deal with gigantic NBA egos, get fired after four years, make a few more millions.

Go ahead: make the rubble bounce.

You can’t fault Beilein for being interested or wanting to coach at the highest level in his profession. It wouldn’t be anybody else’s fault either - Warde, The Pistons, the NBA. There’s so much anger in this thread about something none of us can control. All these rationalizations too. It’s one man’s choice, and I hope like most everyone he stays, but if he goes I’ll definitely be checking out what Beilein can do with a NBA roster. I imagine it’ll be fun to see. And if that’s what he wants he should take the opportunity, right?
