OT - Reddit CFB Risk Update 5/25 - Scoreboard
We had another pretty good night (I hope I can keep typing that indefinitely). While nobody quite knows what the heck OSU is trying to do and with an inevitable confrontation with Nebraska looming, we are in great position. Just check out the map if you need any convincing:
If you need any more convincing, check out that scoreboard:
Caveat: Pretty much all metrics on the leaderboard are either meaningless (territories) or misleading (players/stars). Still, though, it's nice to be at the top of something, right?

Announcements:
The "Blue Alliance" has been re-dubbed the "Allied Forces" and now consists of Michigan, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Florida, and Texas. If you aren't using the website to get orders, then please refrain from attacking any territories controlled by our allies.
If you are a relatively new reddit user, please check the game page to ensure that you are not being flagged as a bot. If you are flagged you will see a text box like the one below. If you are flagged as a bot, your turns will not assist our chances to win (although you can still accumulate turns so you can level up stars). If you see this box, then follow the hyperlink to fill out the survey, but ALSO message /u/bakonydraco directly on reddit to get the issue sorted out.
Instructions to Join:
To join all you need to do is go to reddit.com/r/cfb and create an account if you don't already have one. Next, set your flair to Michigan. You can do this by clicking "Select Flair" on the right side of the cfb subreddit. Finally, you can join and play the game at https://vote.redditcfb.com/cfbrisk.php.
If you want to discuss the game in deeper detail and strategize with us, you can join our discord server found here: https://discord.gg/TcZBTcj. We usually announce plans of what we want to attack/defend in the evenings, but we discuss strategy all day. Be warned though, there will be a vetting process to join the discord as we have had some mole issues from OSU. Even if you don’t pass the vetting process, we can still provide less-secret instructions in the general chat so that you can still help us towards our goals until we can fully 100% trust you.
Go Blue!
Instructions as to how to play:
At the beginning of the game. Every team was assigned one single territory, and so every territory is now named after that team. When you go to select an action in the game, you'll see option such as:
"Defend Buffalo", "Attack Penn State", "Attack Kent State".
This means that we border the location that was originally assigned to Penn State and Kent State. If you choose to attack Penn State, you will attempt to take that piece of land next round. Defend Buffalo, means that we currently own Buffalo's original homeland, and defending Buffalo means putting your stars towards keeping Buffalo from being taken.
After you submit what you're doing for the day, just sit back at wait! At Midnight EST all of the picks from all of the teams go in, and a random number generator selects a winner for each territory. Then it all happens again tomorrow.

You need to post things for us to upvote.
I’ll get posting there
FYI, I got an order to "Attack Virginia Tech". That's a Clemson-held territory who is a current ally of ours.
I'm thinking it meant attack App State which is currently held by VT.
If you respond to someone's post they can't edit it...
I'm not one of the strategists but Im active in the discord and try to stay plugged in. So with that disclaimer in... VT borders that territory and will most likely want it back. The idea was most likely worked out with Cemson that we just want the territory to stay in the alliance, doesn't matter who ends up with it.
Each territory is a free for all each round for anyone that borders that territory. Defending is essentially re-attacking that territory.
Whichever order you got was correct. We are highly coordinating things with our allies this turn.
Looks like you've been posting in /r/CFBRisk. I think the only karma that counts is directly from /r/CFB
Be aware that there are a bunch of haters that neg any M poster, but we will come out in droves to pos-bang you.
Created an incredibly innocuous thread and I'm definitely getting random downvotes for no good reason.
I have over 200+ Karma points in Reddit, but in Risk I was only at 130 and was wondering why they did not match up.
why are the metrics meaningless or misleading?
It's been fun to watch, keep the updates coming.
Number of territories doesn't affect your team's strength (just where you can attack and defend). It's nice to have enough territories to try to corner enemies or to be safe from elimination, but that's all. Star power is much better.
The user info is misleading because it counts all users who have registered, regardless if they are actually participating and the stars here is just the sum of all of those registered users, but there are multipliers in the game that make that simple sum misleading.
To expand on that, the game creators made a rule change around day 12 that greatly strengthened the value of 3/4/5 stars relative to 1/2 stars, so the sum total of raw star power doesn't tell us much anymore. The creators have also refused to release what the new weightings are, but us and other teams have run analysis to get a good estimation.
users/stats vs. territories. It just doesn't add up unless we are in an alternate universe.
Stanford is way too successful. The last place school in territory is first in user/stars.
What gives...? Seems like there is a story here I'm not getting.
*wink*
Oh look, we've got an internet tough guy here. So scared.
Dude, it was just a joke. I love Risk, though I admit I am not playing online Reddit college football Risk at the moment...
And P.S., this changes nothing - I still want to give you all swirlies and/or Atomic Wedgies...
Well, that's a bit much.
In any case, since the board switched to the waterless urinals, all you can really do is attempt to make someone wear what would best be described as a heavy aluminum hat with a motion sensor on it.
What did I do? On a related note I'm 7 karma points shy of a second star. Rick Sanchez1997. And my assignment is attack OSU! Help a brother out!
Edit: Just got my second star! Onward!
Finally signed up on here, just so I can say that many upvotes were given
edit: Also user name there is the same as here if anyone is feeling generous
How do I find/identify M users to upvote?
Also, updating flair was not as trivial as it should be. I was was apparently on team chaos for about three days until I cleared my cache.
EDIT: Is it just the label on the posting? Clearly, I'm not a redditor.
Are there any students (or professionals) who have practice with rendering data from a database in a visually-consumable way? Not talking tables or charts; more graphics. If so, there is a project you could help with to assist the cause. Reply here if interested.

He's doing a real nice job posting somewhat random comments in CFB threads. I think that is deserving of some Karma.
Another observation.
We really started taking control of our territories once the MGoHorde started siging up in droves. Kudos to everyone for joining and participating, it has made a big difference as well as BlueSCar and other mods keeping us organized and aligned with our Allies.
But I am also noticing a trend that OSU numbers are starting to climb as well. I sense that a real Star Power Arms race is developing. We need to keep recruiting new players to maintain the Star Power leverage we have gained.
All I can say is this is certainly a good way to kill the summer doldrums. Of course until Seth, Brian, and Ace starting raining Draft-aggedon upon us in July / August..... /s
I need some good Karma. Username Murtagher
That alliance with Clemson and who says fuck it first is going to have big ramification. If they see nowhere to go and decide to turn up into the north east they could take a lot of territiories really fast
you would be correct, but you have to understand that Clemson only has a max Star Power of about 550. That is only ~20% of our Star Power.
Clemson attacking us would be the equalivent of Canada attacking the USA. Not something that would end well for Canada if they were foolish enough to do something like that.....
Clemson has been a great allied and as BlueSCar has noted, we are working with them to execute a well coordinated attack plan tonight. They have proven themselves reliable over the past 5-7 days......
We are literally 5 times Clemson's size going by weighted star power. It would be lunacy for them to turn around on us and, if they did, we could end them in a few turns. That said, they have been perhaps our most reliable ally up until this point. I would not be too concerned about them turning on us at this point in time.
As a REMINDER...
The Michigan Discord is private, so only confirmed Michigan supporters can see our strategies there.
This thread is decidedly NOT private, so any Buckeye with an internet connection can see what we're chatitng about here.
DO NOT REVEAL STRATEGY HERE.
But the point holds.
My strategy was to run around in circles and flip OSU the bird. Do I need to keep that quiet?
Nope.
my karma went down 2 points lol
I am posting in the fantasy football subforum
