John Beilein, Wolverines discussing contract extension
No he didn't
Well, according to official records there was no opponent in the 2013 title game, so he didn't LOSE that year, so...
all offense, no defense. But he adapted, gave up some control, and hired a kickass DC this past year (and a pretty good one the year before) so that the team wouldn't be all offense, no defense, even if JB still is.
I maintain the complaints about that were well deserved before the past two years.
When can we let the Maizen sarcasm die? Can't we just bury it along with the user's account that hasn't existed here in quite a while?
he acted like an ass on this board for a long time so the shelf life for this probably still has a ways to go - but it will eventually pass
If I am not mistaken, the formula is 6 months of ridicule for every one month of ass-holery. So, he still has about 12 years of ridicule left. But 2030 should be a good year for him!
It's just annoying to scroll through the same exact joke on every recruiting or Beilein thread over and over again when looking for actual content.
It'll die at some point, but it's can't quite be overstated just how obnoxious that poster was for years about Beilein. And how wrong. And confrontational. But mostly how wrong.
and not once did he ever eat crow for a being wrong
Yes, please!! Pay him more than the cheaters... And make a big, public explanation of having no hint of scandal!
Paying big bucks for a guy who might only land a 5 star in 2019? When will he finally land a 6 star?
/Maizen'd
Not to mention, he never paid his coaching dues. Never was an assistant? What does he know about basketball?!
/s
I had never heard that
Coached Newfane High School in 1975 then Erie Community College then Div 3 Nazareth. Went to Div 2 for a spell then then Div 1 in 92 with Canisius. And, (sarcasm font) big surprise, won many many games at all stops. Including some great upsets in the NCAA with cinderella style teams. So he's been a coach since 75 and was going to be a school teacher but the coaching worked out so well that he's a basketball teacher instead. And we're priviliged to have him as our coach IMHO.
They need to sign him to a lifetime contract and keep Luke ready to take his place when he retires as a Michigan Wolverine. :)
I was bullshitting. No matter what announce team is working, they bring that point up no less than 100 times a game
I will admit that I have espoused some ignorant Beilein views in the past... I hope that my integral support of his raise will make up for those piss poor takes of the past!
Love me some Coach B!
jdon
As have I... though I will say Beilein did take initiative and change his methods (essentially hiring a defensive coordinator)
This fall, I'm hoping Harbaugh will make people regret their piss poor takes of him and the football program...
I took down names of the worst takes on the Fire Beilein threads and you didn't make the list. Most of them are either abstaining from Bball threads or have new accounts. (I'm talking about you Lampuki 22, That Guy Ceci, San Diego Mick, etc.)
How in the Hell did I NOT make that list?
one of the happiest days of my life. I just love to see the good people in life finally get the rewards of their hard work, sacrifice, and loyalty. Every time I see one of these cheating snakes win the national title it just gauls me. We need to appreciate every day JB is our coach, because when he retires, he will be impossible to replace.
While I certainly hope he can win a national title, let's not act like Big Ten titles and Final Four appearances are chopped liver.
Give him all the subs! I agree with Warde that JB should retire as a Wolverine. Hopefully, at the age of 100!
At a time like this, we need to be fiscally responsible and I don't think that...
Sorry.
Yes, pay the man.
I snorked.
1 or 2 more seasons is my guess.
pay the man his money
Let's go for another twenty years.
who remembers the Brian Ellerbe and Tommy Amaker years will know that whatever amount he fills in - it is worth it.
What a truly terrific man and coach.
Heck even the later Fisher years. NCAA issues aside, we underperformed on the court his last few years, losing in the first round in '95 and '96 and missing the tourney altogether in '97.
and the thing is, he is such a good dude the numbers would probably be too low
guy seems to have a pretty decent grasp on the whole coaching thing.
Like others, I am completely fine with handing John Beilein a blank check and telling him that he can stay as long as he would care at this point.
When he does go one day, hopefully via retirement, it is undeniable that Michigan basketball will be in infinitely better shape than when Beilein got here.
Interesting how if you play by the rules, you work and live with integrity and high character, good things will come your way. Dude has worked his butt off, done it right, and now he and our team are gonna reap major rewards. He's already been phenomenal but I think the next 5 years are gonna be special.
