If you didnt already hate the Lions draft enough

They trade up AGAIN with Uncle Bill and select old friend Da’Shawn Hand. He’s possibly the only Alabama DL ever who does not look like he can play in the NFL. FML

Considering projections on where players should be picked rarely correlate to their actual performance in the NFL, it's always hilarious to me when people are sip strongly against a pick. Especially calling picks reaches.

#1 was the best Linesman in the draft by most people.. Detroit hasn't had a line since the Barry sanders days... He starts day 1 2018. Direct upgrade to an offense that was already pretty good last year.

#2 was a Position of need with only 1 guy on the roster past 2018 and we were on 3rd stringers last year due to injury.

#3 was a guy that most draft boards had shooting up due to his football IQ (Tom Brady ring any bells?)

#4 Hand was 10th in Weight reps among defensive players and ran a 4.88 which was 2nd among all players above 280lb in the entire combine..... Hands is almost 300 and ran that.... He still has all the talent in the world waiting to be molded. He was a flop at Bama but if he hadn't been he would have been called in the top 5 picks.... Very high upside for a 4th rounder.

#5 Was a 2nd-3rd round talent who just like Mo was dropped due to injury concerns I was hearing about his name and concussion worries.

Might be the best draft the lions have had since they got Calvin. and anyone talking shit is honestly just trying to find something to whine about.

hired Hand’s position coach from Bama. That tells you he has character and work ethic which if you’re watching closely is the type of lockeroom Quinn (and Patricia) is building. It’s why they took Johnson over Guice. This is a position of need and Hand is still a freak athlete.

signings. This is an average team that hasn’t appreciably gotten better since Quinn got here. People laud him because he has invested a lot of money in improving the OL. He has failed at that so far. Meanwhile, he hired his chum from the Pats to fix a defense he has spent comparatively few resources on. The results speak for themselves. The man has done a mediocre job. The Lions have the same record with Quinn(18-14) as they did in the last two years of Mayhew’s tenure. This franchise simply cannot figure out how to build a winning program. They never have under the Fords. Why should anyone have faith that they will now?

So they’re 36-28 the last four years and you’re bitching. What are you 18? What Lions fan in their right mind wouldn’t be happy with that? I’m on cloud fucking nine. They’re so close to taking that next step and they brought in guys from an organization that have a good idea of how to do that. Quit bitching and be happy they’re on the right track and not completely inept like we’re used too.

Thanks in large part to Matthew Stafford, the Lions have not been a dumpster fire for the last 5 years or so. I've been a Lions fan since the mid '70's and the problem with this team is they are perennially mediocre with a terrible season mixed in about twice a decade. They also always seem to lose when they have to win and win when they need to lose. It never changes.

While it is a fact that they have averaged a 9-7 record the last four years, the typical Lions' season goes one of two ways: 1) they race out to a fast start with something like an 8-4 record but then finish 1-3, sneak into the playoffs where they go on the road and get blown out by the 3 seed (or get completely hosed/unlucky like they did against the Cowboys a few years ago). 2) They start the season 6-7, get eliminated from playoff contention early but instead of tanking to improve their draft posiiton and actually get some players that take them to the next level, they go on a meaningless 3-game win streak and drop to 20th in the draft.

Afterall, everybody is fully aware that this is a franchise that has only won 1 playoff game in 60 years. They have not won their 4-team division since 1993. How does that happen? Not many people get the sense that this is a franchise that is close to taking the next step towards contending. I can't bring myself to root for another NFL team which means I don't pay much attention to the league these days and haven't for a long time. If the Lions can ever figure it out, I think the city of Detroit and state of Michigan will support them like no team we have ever seen before but people have become doubtful that will happen.

Indifferent towards the draft.

Patricia probably looks at what he wrung out of Patriot's D and thinks what he inherrited in Detroit is no worse. Probably thinks improving the Oline and RB will help D more than anything else.

KJ looks pretty good in the highlights to me. Its a good sign several C's went after we took Ragnow.

Hoping character was not a factor in any of these picks. Will be forever annoyed with the Terry Fair pick.

Now y'all quit-cher bitchin'. Arm chair quarterbacking is the easiest job on earth. Spend some time playing devils advocate now and then, it is far less stressful.

LOL this thread is substantially better than studying for my exams. Ragnow was a solid pick I suppose. I can see him being a plug and play guy and giving the line a nice boost. Aside from that I’m not as happy, or upset, as most people in here. I’ll be interested to see how the draft picks play out. Hell, we may not even see some of them get a chance to play in Detroit. I do think they could have gone a little more defense heavy, but I clearly dont know what I’m talking about, so there’s that too..
