Good newwwws everyone! As first reported by Chris Balas of The Wolverine and confirmed by Josh Henschke of The Michigan Insider/247, word out of Schembechler Hall this evening is that the NCAA is expected to rule Shea Patterson immediately eligible for this year, though even now 247’s report was a bit measured:

The Michigan Insider is able to confirm published reports that Patterson is expected to be granted immediate eligibility by the NCAA with the news coming as soon as Friday. As of a week ago, the U-M programs confidence was at about 90%. On Thursday, TMI can also confirm that the confidence level has risen.

Ole Miss submitted its last response to Shea’s appeal two weeks ago and a resolution was expected tomorrow-ish. Michigan sources have maintained a high level of confidence during this process, and given the relative strength of Shea’s case versus his former school’s, this outcome was favored, but with the NCAA nothing’s ever certain.

You're getting downvotes but you're not wrong. We've got the QB now, the WRs have a dedicated coach and "another year under their belt", and the O-line also has more experience and a new heralded coach for their position. If we still fall flat on out face when it matters most I seriously don't see how anyone could say that we were missing some of the pieces to the puzzle.

Now is the time for JH to demonstrate why he was hired. This is the year. His players and 4 years to get the system in place. 2018 will either be a monumental season or an abject failure.

Personally, I just want to beat OSU. If we beat OSU, then it's a fully successful season in my book. I'm just so sick of losing to that freakin garbage dump down south.

With Patterson, the 2018 expectations should be to win the B1G east, win the B1G championship, then make the 4-team NC playoff.  Finish the season 12-2.

With Peters as QB, the expectations should be to finish 11-2, make a NYD6 bowl and win the NYD6 game.

Obviously both are excellent seasons, but we much prefer the first option.

I agree. They'll tow the line and say it's still a "competition" but knowing how much Pep wants to settle on a QB early so he can get the reps in, I'll bet they've already chosen Shea but just don't want to announce that yet. More than likely the secret will stay in the submarine until the ND game or at least the week of.

Odds are that Shea will win the starting job but Peters and Dylan will continue to improve in case we need one of the backups during the season.

QB depth chart is insane!!!!! With Harbaugh “just coaching” very excited. Shea could be the perfect bridge to 2019 where the O-line will be full Harbaughized Keep seasoning BP/DM/JM The winner of the group..... look out.

Since I strive to be polite, I don't know why you are doing this.

Could you explain why?

Sorry if somehow I made some kind of rude reply to you along the way. Though I wonder if I did.

Did you just pick me for some random reason?

More realistic assessment: Jake Rudock 2.0.  He doesn't have the whole playbook down yet, and QB-WR chemistry takes time to develop, so it's more likely he'll need at least a few games to get comfortable.  UM-ND could be this year's Utah game minus freshman Grant Perry.

Actual worst case is that he doesn't even beat out Peters, but to channel my inner Brian, if the WORST we have is that Peters does better than Patterson, that's because Peters took a leap forward ahead of the SEC's #3 QB and that's NOT a problem.

Either way, Peters/Patterson/McCaffery is a clear upgrade from Speight/O'Korn/Peters or Peters/McCaffrey/Milton.

Now we just need a couple of offensive tackles. . .

If the rumors about JBB at LT are true, Shea is going to need every ounce of escapability he has.  Unless Warriner is the tackle whisperer.  Please be the tackle whisperer Ed!
