Miles Bridges pays $40, clears NCAA violation

Submitted by Supa Hot Fire on

According to the report on ESPN, Bridges' family members had a dinner paid for by Christian Dawkins without his knowledge, and that was the extent of his violation. He paid back the $40 value of the dinner and is now clear. Amazing how the NCAA solves some situations so fast while other important ones take far too long (there were also expense reports documenting further payment from Dawkins, but since Bridges and MSU deny the payment, the were dismissed. Go figure).

Bridges may not recognize him.  According to an MLive article, the $40 payback was from a seperate meeting with an agent.  How many agents has Mama Bridges met with?

"A Michigan State investigation into a claim that Miles Bridges' family accepted $470 in improper benefits uncovered a separate, unrelated minor NCAA violation involving the Bridges family, the school announced on Monday.

Members of Bridges' family had dinner with an agent during the 2016-17 season, in violation of NCAA rules, the school said. The dinner was held without Bridges' knowledge"

I would like to deny any wrongdoing from Chris Webber at the University of Michigan and would like to retroactively pay $40 to the Mongolian Barbecue of my choice in order to restore our two vacated final fours. Thank you.

The Martin "scandal" was a joke compared to the shit that goes on now.  Martin wasn't paying players to go to Michigan.  He was using them to launder money.  Michigan's sin was letting him hang around the program, but as Jalen always said, he was like a father figure to them.

If my neighbor was the next big thing in college hoops and I wanted to lend him 100k, the NCAA couldn't do a damn thing about it.

To this day I don't think most people understand the Ed Martin thing.

While Martin wasn't paying players explicitly to go to Michigan, Michigan was the school he was close to (in more ways than one). Go to Michigan and you see Ed Martin and get handouts year round.

The whole investigation was triggered because Michigan players were taking a recruit on a visit to meet Ed Martin. That makes it hard to argue that he wasn't involved in our recruiting. At the very least, it looks really bad.

Ed Martin wasn't just innocently allowed to hang around the program. Fisher forged Perry Watson's initial on a pass for him. He was also Frieder's chief assistant for years which weren't exactly squeaky clean.

It's probably true that Michigan wasn't any dirtier than some other programs that didn't get caught. But Ed Martin was used to lure players here, even if he had other motives.

You're 100% correct.  I got into it the other day with a guy I knew from high school that kept repeating the "Michigan paid guys hundreds of thousands!" mantra.  The kicker was that up until a year ago, he was a sports anchor on a TV station in Michigan.  (That might say more about the quality of sports journalism, especially on TV.)  The point is that people don't care to understand the nuance of that situation, or what exactly Michigan did wrong.

MSU did an investigation into the $400 thing, didn't find anything, but did find $40 in improper benefits on Friday. Then Saturday MSU said Bridges was cleared in the $400 thing but failed to mention the $40 thing. And on Sunday, Bridges was asked if he ever received improper benefits, and he said no - two days after paying back $40 in improper benefits. Okay.

for a meal that was not eaten because their first story was that dad left right away and mom stayed for a few minutes to be polite, but left before the food was even ordered. They can’t even get their lies straight, which is surprising given how much practice they have had.

and offered the NCAA $50 if they will sit him for the tourneys.  Waiting on their response.  I figure that it has at least a small chance of being accepted, based on the NCAA's illogical decisions and overall stupidity.

You just have to deny it and that's that? Imagine if everything were that easy! Judge: Mr. Spartan, you have been brought before this court on felony charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, sexual assault, racketeering, and possession of stolen property. How do you plead? Defendant: Not guilty, Your Honor. Judge: Very well. Then the case is dismissed. *gavel* Next case is case number 18-402...

Well the lies are now starting in full force in East Lansing.  Izzo lied, Bridges lied.  One lie leads to another lie.  Cannot wait until they get to the bottom of this.  I am sure there are more details to come out about Miles and Tommy.

Leaders & Best.  Time to stop asking for permission and start acting.  If UNC, MSU etc are walking away from worse violations untouched, then it's time to grow a pair of balls and hang those banners.

FYI:  "Hang Both" is not referring to Izzo and Dantonio.  Talking banners baby!!!

Every single day, no scratch that, every single hour, something is posted here re the terrible transgressions committed by our Spartan "friends" and every thread is a sea of posts claiming "now THIS is the proof needed to make sure Izzon/Dantonio will be fired".  And every day passes with less and less media attention on MSU's transgressions (even the Yahoo report was weak sauce in regards to MSU IMO).  So now we're down to this - a fucking $40 infraction and we act like we're watching the fall of Rome.

Again I will reinterate what was, is and will be happening in East Lansing.  Are you ready?

NOTHING.   Nothing will happen.

Izzo just got an extension - he is going NOWHERE.

Dantonio beats us like a rented mule.  He is going nowhere either.

Sorry everyone.

I agree, it’s $40 big deal, and I also agree that it’s most likely nothing will happen to either coach. To me the problem is when MSU says we looked at it, nothing happened the NCAA says OK. OSU denied tattoo gate and got a slight slap on the wrist, UNC denies taking classes for players, they get no penalties. Hell, Louisville should have just denied wrong doing and their banner would still be up.

It is not going away.  This is just the beginning.  Last night ESPN still had MSU scrolling across the bottom of their screen.  This is just the beginning of a long process that will be taking place.

When all the bad stuff that was going down at Michigan in the mid 90's, the probation did not happen until the early 2000's.  With the feds involved, the sexual misconduct, etc...  I find it highly unlikely they will survive this without some sort of punishment.

And, having travelled this path many, many times before here (making predictions nobody wanted to hear that came true) this is what will happen:

1. Every time one of these threads get posted (about one an hour right now) about 95% of the responders will make comments implying that THIS is the infraction that's going to be the end of things for MSU.  And I'll make a similar comment about how nothing is going to happen.

2. Nobody will like reading my comment (not what people want to hear/think) and will react negatively to it.

3. Over time these posts will start to slow down and will eventually stop altogether

4. Sometime next fall a thread will be created in which the OP will wonder why nothing ever came of the situation at MSU and why things there are "business as usual" still.

5. I'll remind everybody that's exacty what I told you would happend and then people will really lose their shit. Because the only thing worse here than predicting something will happen people dont want to acknowledge is reminding people you made said prediction and were right.

Rinse, repeat.

MSU has the FBI, the Attorney General for the State of Michigan, The US Dept. of Education, ESPN and Yahoo all investigating their school and AD. At some point, with all of those investigators running around, the shit WILL hit the fan.

Or maybe not

Either way I'll be right here next fall either taking large amounts of shit from everybody else here for being wrong on this issue OR I'll be taking large amounts of shit from everybody else on the board for being right and having the temerity to remind everyone of my correct position.

think MSU has done nothing wrong or if you think they've covered their tracks and they'll get off from all this. But if we are to listen to our MSU little brethren then this type of stuff happens everywhere if you look hard enough. With enough people looking hard enough at MSU right now, I think its short-sighted to assume nothing will come from this. I can't tell you how many of these national court cases like Jodi Arias, Casey Anthony, Larry Nassar, etc. that were first reported with huge attention, then it died down for a while, then picked right back up once investigations were through. I'm not ruling out that Sparty covered their tracks with all this or they have the right people in their pocket and they'll come out free and clear; however, I think it would be unwise to commit to  that being the only possible scenario.

Even if MSU handled the sexual assault cases how they were obligated to, they did nothing to console or support the victims/accusers. They only had concerns for the athlete. One thing is crystal clear: at Moo U, the athlete is more important than the rest of the student body and reputation of the school is paramount. They've mishandled cases concerning regular students which shows they are protecting their image as an institution that prides itself on morals and ethics which isn't attainable when you have all these girls saying they were raped. Technically speaking they could have done everything properly procedural-wise, but it doesn't change the fact that the moral compass at that university is fucked up.

Schute (who had Dantoniio write the foreard to his book) has nothing but MSU affiliated people investigating, and it is only for the Nasser stuff because they have to

They aren't going near Dantonio or Izzo no matter what

It isn't an independant investigation at all

They will burn anyone who had anything to do with Nasser and that's it
