Miles Bridges pays $40, clears NCAA violation

Submitted by Supa Hot Fire on

According to the report on ESPN, Bridges' family members had a dinner paid for by Christian Dawkins without his knowledge, and that was the extent of his violation. He paid back the $40 value of the dinner and is now clear. Amazing how the NCAA solves some situations so fast while other important ones take far too long (there were also expense reports documenting further payment from Dawkins, but since Bridges and MSU deny the payment, the were dismissed. Go figure).

oh PUH LEEEEEEZE This was the system for years and they knew EXACTLY how the system worked...Have your assistants do all the dirty work..never speak of it so you can claim you had no knowledge of it....then Lie and Deny Lie and Deny ..and for the most part its worked beccause the NCAA has looked the other way..is feckless..is Corrupt and part of the problem NOT the solution

MSU is saying that the Dawkins expense report was totally bunk, but that in the investigation they found out one of Bridges's parent went to lunch with someone else last Winter when Miles was making his NBA decision and let an agent pick up the tab.  Sounds far fetched, although nothing on that expesne report was likely very accurate.

The Feds set up wire taps and other surveillance for thousands of hours because some guy named Dawkins bullshitted his expense report. Just like the Feds are right now eavesdropping on each of my 100 sales reps to see if they are really dining at Olive Garden with a business client. Dawkins surely fabricated some entries - but what about the cash and services off the report? “Miller $100k” wasn’t on the report but the Feds have the proof. $400 dinner and $40 lunch might be on the report, but what’s off the report to Bridges’ family or others? Only the Feds, Dawkins and the families know at this point,

Did the NCAA just give the go ahead to allow "impermissible" benefits? I mean, if you can just pay them back on the off chance you get caught and receive no punishment, then why not?

When you enable what MSU has for going on decades, can you blame them for trying to protect the thing with the least actual value: their athletic legacy?  Many people seem to scoff at vacated wins and such, but while some vacating deserves that, it is precisely that which is a lesson that the results of cutting corners and worse to attain victory shouldn't be celebrated.  It is unfortunate that the coaches involved, in this case Izzo and Dantonio, cannot see past themselves to realize this.  If you were coach and were truly unaware on some level and you truly felt empathy for the victims, not just to prop up your own ego/image, you would happily get rid of the titles and trophies.  Those trophies and accomplishments, unfortunately, have become idols preventing any sort of healing to take place.  I'd like to think Michigan is different, and while MSU fans and others are quick to point out the mistakes in Michigan's past, there are no banners up from the Fab Five era.  Perhaps this sounds holier than thou, but as an idealist it saddens me when people who have power to actually help in substantial ways do the opposite, or only help in superficial ways when it benefits them.

All this salty crying and bitching and convincing yourselves that Michigan isn’t the inferior program in both Basketball and Football is tough, I get it. I’d be mad too. It’s 2018, UM hasn’t won a B1G title in football since 2004 In basketball, MSU just won the outright 2018 B1G title. Don’t think MSU fans would trade a head to head win in January for an outright conference title. Mr. Izzo has more Final 4’s than the history of the Michigan program. Can’t change reality! Also, UM missed the tourney in 2010 and 2015. That’s awful.

Is one of the best coaches in the country, without hesitation. He’s also a great guy. But so is Tom. He remains amongst the most respected in his profession by his peers. These posts above are unsubstantiated and he’s been defended relentlessly by his former players, opposing coaches, major media members, hell even AAU guys (Who he’s openly critisized and lambasted for years). It’s so transparent what you people are doing.
