Well, if that happens, then...
I hope that this is a case of "the conversation in the QB room is that we would like to be 3-deep for game ready depth"
And not a case of "Wilton is clearly behind Shea but clearly ahead of Brandon and Dylan"
Of course, if the waiver is granted, then I really hope it's, "Shea is way ahead of Dylan, who is way ahead of Brandon, who is way ahead of Wilton, and we don't need to be four deep."
It seems like an odd way to make his grad school choice though. If, other things being equal, UM is the best for whatever discipline he wants, why not just stay to begin with? Or did he think he would transfer somewhere else and suddenly become NFL material?
I just don't understand it in terms of his long-term life goals.
His life, not mine, though! We should never forget that these are kids navigating the path to their futures.

Agree. Wilton's a good dude and has been a loyal soldier, but I'd rather go with the youth and upside. I think we've seen the best we're getting out of Speight.

how the f does someone neg that. yea, let's have as few viable qbs as we can. wtf

We're 10-2 if Speight is healthy the whole year. MSU wouldn't have been close and we probably beat Wisconsin as well. I'd take that.

Any semblemce of a functional QB wins Ohio State
January 26th, 2018 at 10:14 AM ^
I bet he would've swung momentum in the PSU game, too. 12-0!
But in all honesty, at that point we would've gone B1G Championship, CFP, Natty, so we'll call it 15-0.

Look, JOK is good dude who tried his best, but he is a bad FBS QB. With Speight (and Tarik Black) we beat MSU, we have a good shot at beating Wisconsin, and we absolutely beat OSU. The gameplan vs OSU was so good that even with JOK not being able to hit the broad side of a barn, we still nearly beat them
Speight leads us to 10-11 wins. Everyone is on the BP hype train, but at no point did he look appriciably better than what Speight offers us
January 26th, 2018 at 9:27 AM ^
the three games Speight played in? What makes you think we beat anyone else with him at QB? He was terrible.
January 26th, 2018 at 11:56 AM ^
Yeah, I'm surprised by the responses. It was clear he had regressed before his injury.

instead of players names/nicknames is just an awful habit. I have a few arguments with your comment, but that is the one that somehow bothers me the most. Sp8 takes the same amount of time and is much clearer to the rest of us than WS.

about why that's the case.
January 25th, 2018 at 8:20 PM ^
Wrong, I would love to have Sp8 back. Lower ceiling as we know what he can do, but much more experience than any of the other options.

and people neg'd me because they didn't want to hear it. I seriously doubt he is getting much interest from other schools and why would they. His stats from his last 6-7 games are terrible. He broke 3 vetebrea in the last game he played in, so you have to wonder about his health.
I doubt many schools are really interested in him.

Is he entitled to a starting job? Go out and win it, kid.

I think it would say to him "Wilton Speight is a better QB than you. Get better or ride pine"
Change that 'i' to an 'e'. Don't get bitter. Get better

Telling the qb who survived a coaching change, went 13-3 as a starter here, won the Minnesota game coming off the bench, sustained multiple serious injuries while playing for Michigan, fought through pain to bring us to a double OT against OSU last year and you're going to make a trash comment like that. Please enlighten all of us about your athletic endeavors. Show a little respect to a dude who’s bled maize and blue the past 4+ years.

Or, no commitable offers from anywhere he wanted to go. Maybe he only got interest from MAC-level schools, offers to be the next Morris at CMU or Malzone at Miami (NTM). After having been a starter in Ann Arbor, playing at somewhere like Mt. Pleasant would be a come-down. (And I'm not dogging the Chips, just using them as an example.)
I would guess he was hoping for better. Come back to UM? I could see it. Since he's only got one more year of eligibility, I'm sure he'd rather spend it somewhere than nowhere.
