Drevno apologizes to OL

Submitted by Bodogblog on

Per Brandon Justice, Drevno called his OL together and apolgized to them for his coaching last season.  I don’t know whether to commend him or poop in a bag and mail it to him.  Civlized me the former, but my id demands the latter.

Also says Harbaugh told a recruit he's a different person, but to me that's a secondary story.

Takes some guts to do this, and they are recognizing a need for change.

True...

Although, it's significantly easier when you're a multi-millionaire (aka can hire any childcare support you'd ever want), your spouse doesn't work, your retired parents live in town and two of your adult children in their twenties live in town.

Jim and Sarah are most definitely not wanting for support on a personal/parental level.

Weird. This could be one of those events that marks some sort of slow-rolling downfall, or it could be a mere blip on the radar screen. It remains to be seen. If you know what I mean. Billy jean.

Not sure how to react...*looks at possible reactions*

*1. This is good. Trust the process. Trust the coaches. They recognize their shortcomings, and will do everything to fix this. They will fix this. I believe!*

*2. The sky is falling. Harbaugh is telling recruits that he's going to be a "different person"?! What the heck does that mean!? What the heck is going on!!!?!! And what is a coach doing apologizing?! This is football fergodsakes! This is Michigan fergodsakes! Don't apologize! Either correct your mistakes with actions, or get the heck out of here!!*

Hmmm....I think I'll go with number 1.

But number 2 is very enticing! Maybe I'll go to twitter with option number 2; twitter is the best form of media for hawt takes.

And they didn't just find a copy of "How to Coach Football" by Nick Saban on the clearance table at Barnes and Noble.  They either know how to do this job at this level by now or they don't.

Drevno has nothing to teach these kids this year that he didn't have last year.

Maybe Jimmy spent too much time worrying things outside of the program, jousting on social media, etc.

Drev, specifically addressing the O'line almost seems like taking a shot at Frey, imo.

i think you hit the nail on the head.  drevno may have thought frey could handle things with the line and that the line knew enough to build from previous years experience.  he moved up to the press box and the line underperformed until he got back on the sideline.  delegating is a good idea but realizing you need to be hands on again is probably a good sign.  the line improved dramatically when drevno went back to the sideline again and moved back to more power blocking.

I think he actually seemed to do much less of that this year.  He also seemed to less frequently blow up at officals.  Before I read this post, I had long felt that he was a different person this year in that way.  Am I wrong about that?

I assumed his demeanor changed because he had a young team.  I have learned there are 2 ways to motivate players.  #1 needs a kick in the ass coach and #2 needs a sane arm around explaining coach.  If you get that reversed you get much less out of both.

I assume at some point JH saw the kick in the ass wasn't going to work with that group of kids.

HIs demeanor was off. He's an uber competetive guy, even with a young team I would be expecting him to show some fire on the sidelines. There was almost nothing. Not a single gifable moment. Two years prior we had multiple entries to choose from each week.

He needed to tone it down a bit, but it wasn't just that. His demeanor was off, and in some feelinsgball sort of way I think it rubbed off to the team too.

We need a fiery Harbaugh, no matter how young our team is.

There is a separate matter of "Can he improve?" I think yes and I am good with stability going forward for another year. There are few excuses that will cover substandard performance for another year. I support the team we have.

a better understanding of his young personnel and figuring out what it takes to work with this group. Players are not robots that you can plug and play into any situation.

Additionally, the players could possibly play better with cohesion of teaching, techniques and terminology.

There are all sorts of ways Drevno could improve and recognizing his own faults and working toward improvement in areas of deficit is probably a good first step.

Dude has some legit good sources and is useful for info like this, but man his writing is terrible. Like borderline unreadable.

The 247 guys aren't much better. Do they seriously have no time to edit each other's copy? It is mildly infuriating.

This is Michigan. Higher standards! Rant over.

This is a good way to move forward and take some of the baggage/negativity off of the players. My fault, I'll be better, let's go. Coaches have bad years and bounce back (or don't) just like the rest of us. Here's hoping he responds to adversity by coaching and recruiting his ass off.
