maybe it wasn't final yet. IIRC that's two ND and MSU coaches each going elsewhere. Can't complain about that

All were on Herbert's staff at Arkansas.

This has been said numerous times on this blog "ok this particular event will make MSU suck again".
How many times do they need to kick our ass to make you all understand that MSU is not going anywhere in the future as long as Dantonio is there? He is an elite coach and has built a strong program, they will be fine.
January 11th, 2018 at 3:55 PM ^
Why is it so important to you to defend Dantonio's honor?
January 11th, 2018 at 4:06 PM ^
and can't resist mounting it.

Nah bud, I'm on no high horse. I admit I was among people who predicted MSU would go back to mediocrity after 2016, and I can admit I was wrong about that. Dantonio is a prick and I want to beat him bad, but I have seen him lose assistants and continue to beat Michigan as well as other elite programs in the Big ten (OSU and PSU). He is a solid coach.

Agreed. Too many people just totally forget that he's been at state SINCE 2006!!! He's had a chance to put in his system - that counts for something.

I can't wait to compare Harbaugh's 6th and 10th season to Dantonio's. Dantonio was 7-6 in his 6th season and then 3-9 in his 10th. Something tells me that isn't happening with Harbaugh.
Dantonio is a good coach but Harbaugh he is not.
January 11th, 2018 at 5:16 PM ^
I'm not defending his honor, but I notice the same people (including me, I am not absolved) ride the "State is going back to misery, yipee!" train, absolutely lose it when we lose to MSU in the regular season (which I did). Dantonio has shown he is a top notch coach in this league, MSU might fall off once ever 3-4 seasons, but he built them into a consisten 10-11 win program.

I mean, they did go 2-9 last year (sorry, Furman doesn't count).

Some truths....
-Carr should have been removed when he fell enough behind OSU when he kept consistently losing to Tressel.... thats EXACTLY what Canham did, when Elliot couldn't beat Woody, so he took Woody's former assistant and the one guy who could beat him, in BO.
- Dantoni was considered at the time but they passed, yet he was the one guy who could beat Tressel.
-Dantoni further behaves like an ass, BECAUSE HE KNOWS THIS, and his destiny was cheated.
January 11th, 2018 at 4:17 PM ^
Well, it's not like ex-assistant coaches always fare well against their predecessors. Saban's assistants have never beaten him, and Coach K's in basketball are similar.
Dantonio's head coaching track record was modest (18-17 at Cincy) when MSU hired him. They got lucky with him. They're punching well above their weight class right now (as evidenced by the fact that they're getting poached by FSU here for lateral moves). Spartan fans should be living this up for all it's worth because I doubt they can replace Dantonio with a comparable coach.
I don't think Lloyd needed to be fired, but we just should have hired Miles in 2007. But whatever, it's water under the bridge now that we have Harbaugh.

Ohhh they fucking are, all right.
January 11th, 2018 at 5:13 PM ^
they did get lucky..but i do believe there is some correlation with their rise and the sinking if Michigan's football program. If Michigan stays an 8/9 win team from 2008 until 2014..do they have that type of rise?
January 11th, 2018 at 5:22 PM ^
His record against Michigan definitely wouldn't be as good, but I think he'd still be doing pretty well, as he's managed to win without ever really excelling at recruiting.

It's a pretty sad state that some of us get excited about who coaches them and maybe this will help us beat them.
I don't give a shit who is on the sideline for MSU. Get it the fuck done.
January 11th, 2018 at 4:13 PM ^
Well, they did go 3-9 in 2016. Technically, that is sucking - correct?
January 11th, 2018 at 4:17 PM ^
wish I had a dollar for everyone who predicted Dantonio's demise without Narduzzi. Gimme a break. No ST coach is going to make one iota of difference.
January 12th, 2018 at 3:21 AM ^
where were they last year then?
January 11th, 2018 at 3:54 PM ^
Unless it's a team full of, you know, rapists. I want them to suck, but not enough to unleash another 4 starting rapists, a racist, and general assortment of other criminals on the East Lansing community...

I've been reading that we are hopeful that two will leave so we can improve our offense. Are the coaches at MSU and ND in the same boat as ours (we'll be better of with out them)? Or are these good coaches they are losing?
I ask because I don't know anything about the MSU and ND coaches.
January 11th, 2018 at 5:05 PM ^
Seriously, it happens to most teams every year, right? Except that they're not the "glamour" positions like OC and DC. We're "losing" Frey and Pep, at the very least. An outsider might suggest that we're going to be worse next year because of it. We'll always put the positive spin on it as homers - rightly or wrongly, or a little bit of each.
January 11th, 2018 at 6:51 PM ^
I know that coaching changes happens all the time in all sports - they are all looking to move up. Multiple one year jobs on your sports resume' may not be as detrimental as they are in the real world.
January 11th, 2018 at 3:43 PM ^
I can't wait til our coaches were being poached cuz they are doing an amazing job and not because Harbaugh strongly suggests they find somewhere to land on their feet.
January 11th, 2018 at 3:50 PM ^
Last OC and DC poached. Also Bama going after Partridge
January 11th, 2018 at 3:52 PM ^
Obviously, although not obvious, I was half kidding. Wheatley was a hot name to leave, Zordich too. Partridge was approached as was Dr. Blitz.
The taste of it all just isn't right. We are waiting around for 1 or 2 of our coaches to leave while celebrating rivals' coaches leaving because it helps bring them down to our level.
January 11th, 2018 at 3:46 PM ^
Beat MSU. That is all.
January 11th, 2018 at 3:58 PM ^
"That is all" is redundant and unnecessary. The period at the end of "Beat MSU." suffices to indicate that you have nothing more to add. That is all.
January 11th, 2018 at 6:50 PM ^
Or is this the world's longest dice throwing gif...I'm starting to think it might NEVER happen!

Could be more than usual challenge for a MSU staff that has been extremely consistent aside from Narduzzi .... at least compared to ND (or M) that have had regular staff turnover.
January 11th, 2018 at 4:04 PM ^
Agreed - Coaching continuity has been a key component of the "redshirt and coach up 3 stars" strategy that has worked so well for them.
January 11th, 2018 at 3:47 PM ^
So Mark Snyder was also on the MSU payroll. No wonder the Free Press had it in for us!
January 11th, 2018 at 3:59 PM ^
It is nice to note while MSU has been raided twice now by an FSU program coming off a .500 season, we're apparently going to fend off Alabama for Partridge's services.

can they take pep and drevno too ;)!
