ND RB Josh Adams declares for NFL draft
Per his instagram account.
Of note since we open up the season at South Bend. A lot of production to replace... 1430 rushing yards with 9 rushing TD's
As it stands right now ND is going to be replacing 4 of 5 starting O-linemen, top WR (St. Brown), top RB, top 2 TE's (Smythe, Weishar). While on the defensive side they lose a couple of contributors on the D-Line (Bonner, Hayes, Trumbetti), and their 3 starting LB's.

Can he take Pep with him?

Kelly finally jumping to the pros? That always seems to be the rumor every year.

Not threadworthy of course, but the ads have been strange today! I'm pretty sure I've never searched for realistic meat-look hoody.

"Pardon my forwardness, but that hoodie you have on appears well marbled."

I usually just have ads about tshirts or mail order brides. Only one of those things I search for on the web.

Their D coordinator went to A&M.

All of these departures won't mean a thing if the offense can't stop getting in its own way.
January 5th, 2018 at 1:28 PM ^
We all know the offense has work to do. I hope this doesn't have to get brought up in every thread between now and the start of the season.

We can't discuss opponents' departures until we beat our rivals.

We actually did in 2016
January 5th, 2018 at 1:37 PM ^
2016 Wilton Speight before breaking his collarbone against Iowa:
2,053 yards
64.5 completion %
8.9 YPA
15 TDs
3 INTs
We'll never know how he would have played with a fully healthy 2017. But this is an entirely unfair take. And despite a couple disastrous plays against Ohio State, he stepped up and made big throws under pressure when this fanbase had very little faith an injured version of him could.
He was no Heisman contender, but damnit that version of healthy Speight was enough to make us at legitimate Top 5 team when paired with our nasty defense and far superior special teams (a factor that gets overlooked when considering the dropoff this year). That level of QB play would have at the very least gotten us a 9-3 year (likely with a bowl win as well for a third consecutive 10-3 season).
January 5th, 2018 at 1:21 PM ^
We were probably pretty close to having an unimpressive QB lead us there. Healthy Speight probably would have gotten wins against MSU and SCar. With ND losing a ton of its production on offense and their DC, I like our chances. Just about our entire team will be back.

Adams is a real loss for ND: over 1400 net yards last year, about 7 yards per attempt. But the next leading ND rusher was QB Brandon Wimbush, who ran for over 800 net yards in 2017, and scored 14 TDs. Passing? --- not so great. Only a 49.5% completion percentage with 6 INTs. But he did throw 16 TDs, almost as many as he rushed for.
Anyway, think Brian Lewerke, who was also his team's second leading rusher. Wimbush and Lewerke are two dual-threat QBs who pose a threat to any defense.

ND returns most of their defense like Michigan assuming Coney, Tillery and Tranquill stay in school.
I think ND loses 1-2 starters on defense and 4-5 starters on offense.

I mean, I get it, we're coming off a crappy season and we're the away team.
But the talent on our team I think is a slight notch above ND's when it comes to current players (based on 24/7 recruiting rankings)...
2016: M = ranked 8, ND = ranked 15
2017: M = ranked 5, ND = ranked 10
All in all though, I'm guessing the line will be ND - 6 or so. Sound about right?
January 5th, 2018 at 1:21 PM ^
ND is a 2.5 point favorite as the lines for a few games got released this week. Will likely flucuate.

I think PSU and ND both adopted this practice like Michigan. But at least PSU's roster lists both their class and eligibility.
January 5th, 2018 at 3:13 PM ^
Notre Dame has always listed players by academic class. I don't think they ever refer to someone redshirting.

He was very mediocre this year, but knowing Dantonio he'll probably "evolve" into a Big Ten RB of the Year in 2018
