I remember hearing a rumor that former Baylor strength coach Kaz Kazadi was in the mix back when Harbaugh hired Tolbert. He's at Arkansas State now. Of course, he might be seen as tainted now due to the Baylor scandal.

He knows things we didn't and chose the team's future over old alliances. Given the (as of yet hypothetical) scuttlebutt about (post-bowl) offensive coach shake-ups, this change is likely to make a guy like Drevno uneasy. At logical extremes, we call all admit that he *might* still work out at a high level if he stays, but the most likely outcome is that he has been and will remain surprisingly disappointing. And being Harbaugh's friend and longtime colleague has never seemed so insufficient as now.

Eh.. Harbaugh is gonna do whats best for the team to win football games period. i dont think the length of time someones been on his staff matters that much, it might look like that to us, but i think its more that he knows its the best person he can get, that he can also work effectively with.. that might limit his options, but at the end of the day hes doin what gives his teams the best chance to win.

JH is a proven winner at the highest level and has a tremendous coaching tree already. That doesn't happen w/o having a keen eye for talent and it wouldn't happen if he were stuck on loyalty.

OTOH he's a guy coaches want to work for and that wouldn't happen if he were just chewing guys up and spitting them out. And its not nec. better to keep turning over staff. Doing so can screw up recruiting and force the team to have to re-learn new systems.

At the end of the day..I simply trust his winning and highly competitive instincts.

Jim Harbaugh said, a couple of times I think, "we need to get stronger".  I was wondering whether he was usually a sort of coach-speak generality there, or if he was getting at strength and conditioning.

I caught that too, but at the same time, I attributed our lack of strength to our youth.  No matter what type of S&C program you have, a 19 year old can only get so strong, as compared with 21-23 year olds.

That said, if Jim views this as an area in which we can improve, who are any of us to disagree.

I think it would surprise you how much many starters in college and even professional athletes lift. I'm not going to say that most are not that strong, because they obviously are, but it's a different kind of strength for many. There are meatheads that hang out at your local gym that could go in the weight room and move more weight than most of the football team. There are obviously weightroom warriors on the team too, but a lot of these guys have a natural strength where, they can move a 300lb OL with no problem, but don't necessarily go in the weight room and throw 3 plates around on the bench. It's freaky.

I think this could be a glimpse of how Jim is going to handle coaching changes in the iminent future. I'd like to think, that if he is letting go of a guy like this, maybe the question a lot us have about his unbreakable loyalty to his staff might be answered soon. I'd also like to think that changes like this might result in longtime collegues on the offensive staff being given the ole "Firm Handshake". Jim wants to win, and I think he is coming to the realization that maybe theres more than just a good relationship with those he hires. The thought he might be having is what if he were to hire the offensive equivalent to Don Brown, he might not know his as well but, he could be a gamechanger for this program.

is that 'offensive Don Brown'?

Again, it was not long ago that people were saying we were super hard to predict because of our variability. Did that change with the Fisch to Hamilton change? Did it change because we had to dumb things down with QB instability? Did it change at all?

I'm skeptical of whiz bang fixes and Monday Morning critiques of the playcalling.

Lets get basic fundamentals down. Pass pro. Not dropping passes. Not missing wide open recievers. We're improving, but if we can make a big leap then our offense will magically look alot better. Its not like the first two years were like Borgess offenses.

Alot of fans want change. But instability has costs and in my experience seldom gives us the results we want.

I think that execution on the offense was the main problem. But, I just think that its not as much about the "Who", but is the thought of it. If all goes right in the Bowl game execution-wise, and yet they still are not scoring, does that fall under execution or doe's that fall into playcalling. I'm not saying that that Harbaugh is going to do anything, I'm just saying that changes could very well be on the horizon. And if harbaugh is able make the right changes, then maybe the team can make that step forward.

I can't imagine a time when we seemed to fade, other than emotionally. And when we went gap we were physically able to handle it.

I trust the coach, I just can't think of a problem.

I'll admit I'm a bit skeptical about the fan boy attitude sometimes attributed to S&C coaches. It's definitely important. But you hear of some guy that people get hyped about and the expectation is that they'll take 18 year old kids and make them into supermen that are above all other college programs. It seldom works out like that.

I don’t know a lot about this, admittedly. But, our guys have not seemed to make as many physical gains as some other elite teams (once they are on campus). I am ok with this. Proceed.

Do you think we have any chance of getting Shannon Turley back in the conversation here as the next S&C coach? He deserves a lot more credit for helping turn Stanford football (and athletics) around.

I do think this is a move that was needed. It’s crazy when your strongest benchpress guy is a true freshman. Maybe we can get the screaming lunatic from Alabama.

I thought Tolbert was doing a pretty good job overall, our skill players looked faster and more athletic in general. Look at how many guys went to the NFL last year. I hope Harbaugh has a clear upgrade lined up.
