Webb: all systems go for Shea Patterson, other two may take longer

Submitted by evenyoubrutus on
Sam Webb is saying (in a paywalled article) That Shea Patterson is looking very good to commit today, according to his gut. But, his gut also says we will need to exercise patience with Van Jefferson and Deontay Anderson. All 3 WANT to come to Michigan, but there is a holdup with the "red tape." No indication as to how long it will be, but likely not today. Take it fwiw.

It is relevant to the others which affects overall scholarship count. That means, as I have said on here many time and which a couple prominent college football writers are also saying, that this game of musical chairs could be anywhere from 70 to 90 percent complete. That means a lot of spots will be taken up (with signed LOIs) next week.

It means few spots will be available after that for anyone on the fence who isn't coveted.

Really hope all 3 end up here. QB and S depth can make next year’s team really special. I know there are serious issues on the OL, but if Chase comes back and Anderson is a go then the defense will be better than 2017 and close to 2016.

and we still won't have great depth on the D line.

2016 had Wormley, Glasgow, Godin, Charlton (all of whom are in the NFL btw) and they were backed up by Gary, Hurst, Mone, Winovich.  We may never see a DL with a two deep like that.

Gedeon, McCray, Peppers, Lewis...that defense literally broke the S&P+ curve for the first 8 games or so last year.  It allowed 3 points to OSU in regulation.

Nevermind DL, We may never see a defense that good here again.

If we get close to it next year, I'll be happy.  Will take improvement from the safety and LB positions.  Jury out on that.

There was a article on 247 that said Hudson has been killing it in practice. I think JBB is coming on too. If Shea can play next year his ability to move around will make opposing defenses have to play a little more honest. I mean MSU and Wisconsin literally line up and blitz the shit out of us with zero worries of our QB taking off. Add him Shea's ability to scramble and it's a whole new ball game.

I need something concrete. I can't handle the waiting. Also if Patterson is ok with committing today does that mean he is willing to sit out a year if things don't go his way? Why is he ahead of the other 2 when it comes to making it official?

Fair question.  I stream only, don't have cable, stole the connection from my unassuming brother and watch very little outside of football.  I have seen the Bud Light commercials.  I was assuming that was not the first time the phrasing originated.  It's not worth knowing.  got it.
