I dont' think he's blaming Peters for getting injured, he's saying qbs get injured, you need backups.
What he is blaming Peters for is for being merely mediocre. I'ts not like he lit it up and made himself the obvious choice for starting QB going forward. He never even passed for more than 157 yards.

I assume "Bog Mine" is a typo but it's the perfect nickname for Onwenu imo.

This is for maizen, what would be the 2016 class ranked if you add Patterson to it?

I know I'm just setting myself up for another emotional dong punch, but whatever. I think this is a turning point for Harbaugh's program. He tweets at Mork to signal that we're done taking shit and that he sees MSU and "Coach D" for what and who they truly are. He is after the top talent after a disappointing year, and if Peters and McCaffery don't want to compete they weren't right for Harbaugh's Michigan anyway. Scorched earth starting New Year's, no apologies.

Dumb question, but wasn't Peters running the scout team last year? Just like McCaffrey is doing this year? When they do that, how much time do they really have to learn the playbook?
I thought Harbaugh always said it took 2 years for a guy to become ready. The first year to simply "fill out" and gain the strength & get used to the speed of the college game. The second to truly master the playbook/line calls, etc.

work as hard as he should have when he was a true freshman, because he knew he was going to redshirt.
I'm not saying that was also true for Peters or McCaffrey, just that it does happen with freshmen. I would expect Harbaugh to react differently to that attitude than Hoke or Borges, but it's one more reason for his general approach to redshirting.

Heisman took his first coaching job that year; Stagg arrived at Chicago. It was on.

In 2 years working with the coaches you should know most of the playbook. Rumor has it that Dylan is fairly bright and may already know much of the playbook. I really think Dylan will be our next starter. But I will be happy with the one who wins the job in summer camp. I think our biggest improvement position will be QB.

Everybody has been on Harbaugh's case about being 1-5 against the rivals, and for not showing his old fire on the sidelines, and for not shaking things up and making some bold moves to win championships.
Well this one is pretty bold.
Harbaugh is pushing all the buttons he can to win championships.
We got what we want people, let's see where it goes.

The offensive line must improve significantly in pass protection but was actually quite formidable at run blocking for stretches.

2. QB was the only thing missing from a championship season this year - stating the obvious
3. Given all the injuries every year we have to have depth at QB to be champions. We need three top QBs and we will have them
4. Harbaugh doesn’t recruit guys who are afraid of competition. I expect Peters and McCaffery to compete and potentially win. Remember when everyone assumed O’Korn would be the starter after his transfer. 2nd string is an injury away.

"2. QB was the only thing missing from a championship season this year - stating the obvious"
Gotta disagree with you here. You don't win national championships starting true freshman receivers. Also--that was not a championship o-line. The good news is that a year's experience will make a world of difference.

While I don't necessarily think M would've won that game with Speight, part of the issue is that the offense doesn't stay on the field long enough, giving the opposing offenses too many opportunities. If M got better QB play against PSU, then PSU gets fewer scoring opportunities. Maybe doesn't translate into win, but certainly a more competitive game.
December 6th, 2017 at 7:39 AM ^
With healthy Peters, we beat MSU, Wisco, and OSU. All of those games were trending the right way with simply mediocre QB play. PSU, however, was a loss no matter what way you look at it. They shredded the defense. But, that would have meant a B1G championship.
December 6th, 2017 at 7:54 AM ^
would have won those games too. His early season yips wouldn't have lasted forever.
PSU was kicking our asses no matter what though I think.
December 6th, 2017 at 9:44 AM ^
I think alot of people got down on Speight but I think any of our other QB's do worse than him those first couple games due to WR and OL issues.
December 6th, 2017 at 6:01 PM ^
Speight and Peters weren't that much better than O'Korn, none were even average. An average QB beats MSU and OSU and maybe Wisc. A good QB beats all three. We probably lose to PSU regardless. But 11-1 gets us another game vs Wisc and if we win that we're in the playoffs. So we were definitely a quality QB away from the playoffs, but not a championship unless we get lucky...even with our OL being pretty bad at pass protection.
December 6th, 2017 at 2:32 AM ^
2. Remember the offensive line? We were very far away from championship material
3. No team has 3 top QBs. Usually only one QB can play at a time. If a top QB loses the job they transfer for better playing time elsewhere.
4. It’s not about being afraid of competition. See #3

your point regarding the O line's play is dead on. It wouldn't matter if we had Tom Brady under center, he would have lasted all of three or maybe four games before getting hurt...the team had a turnstile at Right Tackle all season long when it came to pass protection, especially when protecting against twists or stunts. His numbers would not have looked good because the squirrelly freshman receivers drop too many passes and/or run bad routes.
It would be great to get Patterson, but it would be even better to get Little or some of the other highly touted Tackles from the Ole Miss program that is imploding before our eyes.
I guarantee if the O Line can keep the QBs upright even on long passing downs when the opponent brings the house, they will produce. The receivers will get better. Peters and McCaffrey will both be better. Better than Patterson? Who knows?
I do not agree that a superior QB can overcome a porous O line and bad receiver play. It's just not possible. We see it all the time at the NFL level when a Heisman winning QB ends up at Cleveland or some other shitshow of a team with a bad line and mediocre receiving, like he is some kind of a savior, like he's going to fix the systemic problems all by himself, and he ends up hurt and/or mired in mediocrity.

Yeah, even if we don't replace those sacks that were 90% on the QBs but we just complete more of the passes to wide open receivers we beat MSU and OSU and maybe/probably Wisc. You also have to figure that having a functional QB backs off some of the 9 people in the box and then our running game is better too.
