OT. Tennessee is a hot mess. Gundy to Knoxville?

Per Clay Travis. It wouldn't be a bad fit. He is a Man and he is 50 now.

This is on Twitter.

Lane is a hell of a football coach the knocks on him have always basically been "is an insufferable asshole to administration/front offices/other coaches." On the one hand, maybe he's beyond that. On the other hand, it's pretty difficult to get a reputation as an insufferable asshole in an industry full of insufferable assholes.

Clay Travis is a class A douche. I'm not getting into specifics here, but a quick Google search will reveal all you need to know (and I never heard of him until last weekend).

If Gundy is actually heading to UT I’d say they’re The opposite of a hot mess right now. That would actually be a pretty big hire, considering some people on this board were panning for him before we got Harbaugh.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Gundy left Oklahoma State either. I think he’s topped out there and is probably tired of perpetually being in Oklahoma’s shadow. Dealing with Kirby smart and Dan Mullen every year would be tough, but not as insurmountable, in my opinion, as dealing with Oklahoma every year.

For me the question at OU isn't about Mayfield, it's about their new coach.  Since Stoops took over OU has won 10 or more games ten times.  He had that program at such a high level.  The question is can the new coach maintain that level.

That doesn't seem to matter. Much like OSU with us, Oklahoma OWNS that rivalry. Flat out owns it. Both teams are pretty evenly matched when they play each other, but Ok State finds ways to lose that game almost every single year.

I think Ok State has won that game maybe only 8-9 times in the last 50 years. Gundy might be sitting there and saying it's time for a change and he just can't find a way to beat them consistently.

So dealing with two schools with superior resources is easier than dealing with one?

My advice to Gundy would be the cautionary tale of Bret Bielema. He left the B1G West's #1 job for the SEC West's #6 job. He could have likely retired in Madison seeing that Wisconsin wins 10+ games every year no matter who coaches the team. Instead, he'll be lucky to find another power 5 job in the near future. Oklahoma State is the Big 12's #3 job. Tennessee is the SEC's #7 job.

Don't go chasing waterfalls.

I do think it would be easier, to be honest. Because no matter what, OK State can't seem to ever get out from Oklahoma's shadow. OK State finds a way to lose that game every single year.

Tennessee might not be as talent-rich of a state as Georgia or Florida, but the right coach will get elite talent to go there regardless. Butch Jones had no trouble luring top-10 classes to Knoxville.

The thread title implies they are a hot mess because of hiring Gundy and then the body of the post states he would be a good fit. Just an odd title for a post. Now if they were hiring Lane Kiffin again, a “hot mess” thread title would make a lot of sense. But yeah, until they actually get someone signed instead of just rumor, I’d still classify them as a hot mess. Hopefully I didn’t confuse my point.

He's just an attention whore. He reminds me of the president in that, I'm not actually sure what he believes in other than getting attention and clicks (and boobs and the first amendment I guess). He's good at that and it keeps the cash flowing in, so that's good for him I guess. He's just annoying when he's saying something you disagree with, because you don't even know if he believes it.

Gundy flirted with Tennessee the last time they were looking for a coach when Butch was hired. If Gundy doesn't go and OSU gives him another raise, he has the third best agent in sports, only behind Gruden's who gets him a raise every time he flirts with Tennessee, and Charlie Weis who gets paid to not coach teams.
