Sam Webb's Gut Says Shea Patterson Not Going to Transfer to Michigan
November 26th, 2017 at 10:54 PM ^
I'm fine with that. Peters looked good and was steadily improving. McCaffrey, after his redshirt year, should be fine to step in if need be. Add Milton and Doyle and the team is well set.

Think about the era of stability at the QB position that is about to unfold.
Peters to Caff to Milton.
That's about 6 years worth of productivity. If Caff lives up to his surname and Milton lives up to that rocket arm potential... Can't wait.
November 26th, 2017 at 11:15 PM ^
how the Peters/McCaffery battle plays out. They are only one year apart. I'd be shocked if both of them are here for all their eligibility.
November 26th, 2017 at 11:27 PM ^
Not sure if Milton will either. It will most likely be one of those 2 (Peters/McCaffrey) for a few years I would think.

If so, it won't be until 3 years from now.

I am not at all saying Milton won't work out great and become a superb QB. But how could one possibly predict where he will be on the depth chart. He is still in HS.
Plus, have you seen Milton's film? Or his numbers this year?
On film he has a super strong arm, but a very weird throwing motion. Maybe that won't matter. Or maybe it will take two years to correct.
His pass completion percentage and TD/INT ratio this season were not great. He had a less than 50% completion rate. Why? Poor receivers? Inaccurate? Too willing the throw into coverage? I have no idea.
Not at all saying he will be bad. But he is not the polished sort of propect that is a sure fire thing. If JH offered him, then he probably has high upside. But there is nothing to suggest that he is a sure fire prospect.

Hamilton pressed for Milton. I don't think he would have been offered if not for that. I see Doyle beating him out and would not be surprised at a position change. There is no way he beats out McCaffery and there is a lot that can change, like who they get next year. If they could have pulled in the kid from Cali all of this would be mute. Michigan is set for years with Peters and McCaffery and will not see anyone else for the next three to four years.

With the Speight transfer, depth at QB is going to be a problem next year. If you pray, pray that Peters and McCaffrey stay healthy.

Hamilton pressed for Doyle too after watching his game on ESPN. I don't think Doyle would have been offered if not for that.

Jared Lorenzen?

Just because he's black doesn't mean he's fast.
November 27th, 2017 at 11:32 AM ^
Good call on the "fast" thing. I used to laugh when Tampa Bay fans talked about Shaun King like he was "fast." I would ask why they thought he was fast. You can all guess the answer.
November 27th, 2017 at 11:50 AM ^
everybody knows that!
November 27th, 2017 at 11:38 AM ^
just because he's hypothetically changing positions doesn't mean he's hypothetically fast

I think everyone assumes based on year/starzzz which guy will start. This is going to be a strong battle next year between Mcaffrey and Peters, eventually leading to a strong battle between Doyle and Milton. Yes, Milton has more starzz, but watch the tape, Doyle gets through progressions, can make throws, and can move a little.
November 27th, 2017 at 10:55 AM ^
First, we have no idea if Milton will work out. Second, imagine a scenario where Caff wins the job next year--under that scenario, based upon the current trend in college football, there is a better than average chance that Peters would transfer rather than be 2nd team for the rest of his career. If that occurred, we are instantly f-ed again at QB with no deoth. This is why IMO the staff is looking for a transfer.

Sam Webb's gut is much smaller thanks to Skip at Body Specs.

I assume the Golden Limo will make a quick stop at Boullion sales to drop off Sam's zero turn mower for a end-of-year tune up.

QB. No more stop gaps for a year. We have two young and very talented QB's who could step in next year and lead this team to great heights. Time to play our recruited players and build a program that lasts long term.
November 27th, 2017 at 11:35 AM ^
Sounds great. But what happens if Peters and McCaffrey both get injured? This year was a wake-up call for those who think you can get by on one or two competent QB's.

I don't think he was ready simply because Harbaugh said he wasn't. The Rutgers presser is where/when Harbaugh said Peters wasn't close to ready until 'sometime around the Indiana game'.
November 27th, 2017 at 7:06 AM ^
JH simply told Speight the truth--that it will be another open competition for the starting job, just like in the prior two years (except with maturing Peters and McCaffrey as stronger competition).
If so, maybe Speight felt that with his degree in hand, and only one more year of eligibility, he needed to be at a place where he would be a near guaranteed starter.

Second hardest bite of any mammal and they max. out forty to fifty pounds. Awesome animal for sure. They are quite friendly to about a year of age, but after that it would not be wise to handle them. I have two GSP's and wolverines make them look lazy. LOL.
November 26th, 2017 at 11:55 PM ^
maybe a guy like speight would do
November 27th, 2017 at 1:29 AM ^
If we are in the market for 5th year senior backup type grad transfer, why the hell would we let Speight leave???
Swapping Speight for another 5th year senior only makes sense if we are upgrading the position.
