Penalty Yards: Michigan-85 Minnesota-10

Submitted by Maizen on

Is it too much to ask to watch one Michigan game where the refs aren't totally incompetent or out to get us? Even guys like Jake Long and Grant Newsome went to twitter to complain about the refs. There's clearly an anti Harbaugh bias so thank god we have superior talent to Minnesota and I realize this is probably low on the list of concerns given tonight's drubbing but I'm totally expecting the B1G to shaft us in Madison in two weeks. Just disheartening.

The rule is 3. And when the ball was thrown he was very close to 3. But even if he were closer to 5 like you think, the only time this is called is either when teams are trying to run a wr on a shallow drag and get lineman in front like it's a screen when the ball is thrown past the line, or when the lineman is blocking down field after 3 yards. JBB just drifted a bit to far but was not around any defender. Plays like that don't get called.

Despite them being another overwhelmed opposing o-line. People denying that there isn't a clear anti UM bias since Harbaugh has arrived need to stop being in denial, there fucking is, period. And it is fucking unfair for UM's players to have to deal with this shit. That ejection was also pure fucking nonsense.

The play when Gary had Minny's QB dead to rights and his jersey was blatantly grabbed so he could not make the tackle was the topper.  I think it was in the 2nd qtr. The QB gets outside of contain and they get the 1st down.  It was totally obvious and we don't get the call.  I want to believe that mistakes happen.  I  want to believe that sometimes the refs let calls pass, but this is simply not the case any more.  We have to win on the field and win with the refs now to get over the hump.  Disgusting.

I watched MSU get away with at least 4 holds today on Offense and nothing called. The pass INT on PSU as well.  Good ole Spartan Bob officiating crew.  I don't care if the refs suck, we just need them to be consistent and they simply are not that....

How the hell does Metellus get ejected with that ass clown #73 from ski u mah?!?  Off setting penalties in that situation after he smacked Kinnel in the head with a punch?  We thought it was just a slight in the OSU game last year.  Its simply not acceptable now that I can watch IU's HC lose his shit on every call today and not get a single sideline infraction.....Urban cryer run on the field over and over today and not a single call...if Harbaugh steps one foot on the field we all know he's gonna get the death penalty.   This shit is annoying as hell.....

I wish Jim would just scream right in a refs ear like a foot away so the cameras catch it on live tv. Make it annoying and loud enough that the dumbass ref has to cringe at the sound. I think Jim's opera voice would be hilarious.

I guess we don't know what Metellus said in the scrum; that's the only way I can explain it though. I know they're expected not to retaliate, but that punch was so far out of bounds it was ridiculous. I'd be pissed if the team just let Kinnel just stand there and take it.

The OSU game was bad, but I actually think the MSU game from 15 was worse despite them getting a few penelties called on them. It was bad enough for Brian to do an article on every penelty fans were complaining about and used software used by the NFL to determine how much points bad calls influenced the game. I think the end result was 26 points in msu favor.

See what happened to the refs at the end of the nc state game. It won't happen at Michigan, but they deserve far worse. The call on Kugler was pure fiction as there was no one else around. If you get beat by another team that is sports but when officials feel they have to decide the game and there is a pure bias and they need to be dealt with.

Most officials are thin skinned worms who have zero respect for the game and any sense of fair play. Just listen to that worm who used to be the lead official in the nfl. Why is that fuck commenting and circling the wagons for the officials of the osu game. They decided that game with one penalty on osu the whole game. I think it was the psu game I was watching and osu had 7 penaltys in the first half. I really think it is time it is addressed one way or the other.

Coming into the game I think Minnesota was the 2nd least penalized team in the country. The disparity is a little surprising, but a lot of the yards were very preventable mistakes that young teams make.

don't talk common sense around here- people hate it. They also hate the fact that most of the penalties called were pretty clear procedural penalties that anybody could see had to be flagged. It can't possibly be that we are the fault, that the patttern of penalties game after game might reflect on us

no.....it must be a grand conspiracy against Harbaugh- where on Earth do the refs meet to plan?

Now you know why so many believe that astronauts never really did land on the moon and that it was a hoax- people beleive whatever makes them feel good and are suckers for any conspiracy theory

the average person doesn't have a lot of rationality in them- its all self serving emotion- and truth is what you want it to be- this thread is a depressing reminder of how weak peoples' minds are

I agree man. Only way Michigan wins that one is with a good old fashioned ass kicking in looneyville Madison. An ass kicking of the refs and badgers. Gotta keep poise and run the refs over on the field. Seriously, enough is enough of their bullshit. Run pass routes that knock these crooked bastard refs on their asses. Why not? If the team doesn't want to do this then they'll need knockout punches early. That'll be key to shut that crowd up. If history repeats itself once again, the badgers will shit the bed. Lets hope the good guys are fired up from the gitgo and ready to give a beat down we'll all remember for years!! Go Blue!!

Let me say, and I am not talking about anyone in particular, that there are people on this blog that could have the best sex ever tonight and still complain about the officiating and why they couldn't get a timely call themselves when it mattered. Such is life in the Big Ten.

That being said, I don't really know what you do about it, but I will say that apart from the numerous missed holding calls and whatever the hell the refs were thinking when they tossed Metellus, it wasn't as bad as in other games.

worked the Mchigan-Ohio State game last year. So, if you didn't think that game was well officiated, you must have been overjoyed with this one in which Michigan was again penalized at will for borderline chop blocks, indisciriminate holding on every kickoff and for hands to the face, and then to top it off, offsetting ejection fouls when Minnesota's Olineman threw a punch and no one on Michigan physically retailiated.

For nine games, Michigan was able to avoid this crew because Michigan raised such a stink last year about its performance in Columbus. And now tonight, they drew the short straw and were forced to deal with its same lopsided calls, poor spotting and need to equalize an ejection situation. This crew blows bigtime.

It has extended past this crew though. Michigan has 2 early first round draft picks on the line, and a guy who probably goes early second day. Yet, despite playing iffy offensive lines, they probably have 5 or 6 holds called against them all year. Additionally, other teams have ran picks all year without a single call. On the flip side, Michigan has been called on ticky-tack stuff that other teams don't get called for.

No one is claiming the opposing team dies not pass block well against Michigan at times. They do. At times. However, Michigan has one of the top defensive lines in the country and have gone whole games against the likes of cinci, Minny psu, Florida, Purdue and Indy without getting a single call. Again, we have 2 top ten draft pick type dlineman and another that will probably go in the second round. Yet they have got holds called on them 5 or 6 times all year. Two of which was against Rutgers. So, the other 6 teams have held them 3 or four times because they have offensive lines that can pass block elite rushers with out holding? Come on now.
