01/03/2018 - 10:43pm I am usually civil

But you are a fucking idiot, plain and simple. I worked for bo for 3 years, you have no fucking idea what you are talking about. Ethics, drive, stamina, compassion and he only cared about shaping boys into good men. We need more of that these days and less of “he only won 84% of his games and no nat’l championship”. I have a feeling you have never coached or been a team leader....stick to watching sports and commenting less, our fan base will be better off for it.

12/30/2017 - 10:41pm Hey, don't let facts get in the way of a good bash job on Harbaugh about how he is overrated for fucking click bait!  I think the next 5 yrs we are going to see vintage Harbaugh where we compete for B1G championships and Playoff bids every year and its gonna come down to one game and a few plays each year if we are in or out.....  This is gonna be a fun ride for sure!

11/15/2017 - 12:15am Still amazing you took the time to do this...

I am biased, i was a student trainer during the '85 season and '82-'86, so i witnessed the injury riddled '84 season (was the first one on the field to tend to Harbaugh's broken humerus in the State Mom, while sad that Harbaugh was hurt, was quick to call me that night to tell me she saw me on TV, so at least she knew my work study job was legit....).  But I see the passion and conviction of THAT team in '85, man redemption was an understatement...from 2 a days on that team was pissed and was gonna take no prisoners....that last minute FG in Iowa City was painful and we laid an egg in Champaign with turnovers in their red zone, but luckly Dieter Heren blocked a last minute FG attempt to save the tie.

The '85 season was eerily reminiscent of our season last year....a few bounces differently and Bo wins his first national championship....

11/14/2017 - 9:45pm Great work and analysis

But regardless of your numerical assessments, the eye test has to come into play....there is no way the 1985 team with that defense (3 straight shutouts during the season), a 10-1-1 record and a victory over Nebraska in the Fiesta bowl is not one of the top 10 seasons in M history over the past 49...

Here is the wikipdedia post:

The 1985 Michigan Wolverines football team represented the University of Michigan in the 1985 Big Ten Conference football season. In their 17th year under head coach was Bo Schembechler, the Wolverines compiled a 10–1–1 record, outscored all opponents by a combined total of 342 to 98,[1] defeated five ranked opponents (including three in a row to start the season), suffered its sole loss against Iowa in a game matching the #1 and #2 teams in the AP Poll, defeated Nebraska in the 1986 Fiesta Bowl, and were ranked #2 in the final AP and Coaches Polls.[1][2]

11/04/2017 - 11:59pm Gary hold...

The play when Gary had Minny's QB dead to rights and his jersey was blatantly grabbed so he could not make the tackle was the topper.  I think it was in the 2nd qtr. The QB gets outside of contain and they get the 1st down.  It was totally obvious and we don't get the call.  I want to believe that mistakes happen.  I  want to believe that sometimes the refs let calls pass, but this is simply not the case any more.  We have to win on the field and win with the refs now to get over the hump.  Disgusting.

I watched MSU get away with at least 4 holds today on Offense and nothing called. The pass INT on PSU as well.  Good ole Spartan Bob officiating crew.  I don't care if the refs suck, we just need them to be consistent and they simply are not that....

11/04/2017 - 11:54pm It literally is hard to watch

How the hell does Metellus get ejected with that ass clown #73 from ski u mah?!?  Off setting penalties in that situation after he smacked Kinnel in the head with a punch?  We thought it was just a slight in the OSU game last year.  Its simply not acceptable now that I can watch IU's HC lose his shit on every call today and not get a single sideline infraction.....Urban cryer run on the field over and over today and not a single call...if Harbaugh steps one foot on the field we all know he's gonna get the death penalty.   This shit is annoying as hell.....

10/23/2017 - 6:02pm Playoff schedule?

Thanks for the updates you know the playoff schedules in November? I have to head to Japan for a business trip in November and want to try and catch one of their games...

09/21/2017 - 12:14am Uhh, not so fast...

Rocky Long's Aztec's took it to Stanford last Saturday night.  Stanford has their issues...but AF will have their hands full and I expect San Diego State is going to win this one....they are a legit team to make a New Year's bowl game as the non power 5 representative....

09/07/2017 - 11:17am In 1997, the general consensus

was that the team was one year away from winning it all.

11/22/2016 - 11:33am THanks Doclosh....

Great to have an eyewitness recollection....i obviously flipped Jolley and Zuver in that game!

11/22/2016 - 11:27am Thanks for the correction...

The old memory banks aren't quite as sharp after 40 years....Jolly sticks out in my head, didn't he have an interception in the '76 game?

11/17/2016 - 12:23am 31-13 Meeechigan!

M wins....

09/05/2016 - 6:52pm That's the way Bo did it when Harbaugh was playing...

I was a student trainer at the time and it did build freshman group comraderie before they graduated to the varsity locker room their sophomore year.  I think its a great idea to develop pride with their respective incoming class.  And it was a bit intimidating initially to go into the varstiy locker room when I was a freshman...

09/03/2016 - 2:22am Go to bed and stop being a troll !!

After that miracle, we smoked you consistently in every game we played CU since...this year will be no different.  Congrats on your baby's birth, but  you are in no way a Michigan fan.  Stick to your CU "High Hoof" crap and spend your time on their blogs, wear their gear and enjoy the beers they serve at Folsom Field....if they even have one (blogs, that is).  All my CU friends are totally over the fact that their alma mater is a trash fire for the rest of eternity. (Or until they go back to the Big8....)

06/18/2016 - 4:19am Have brain scans done, be diligent

My son just started high school freshman summer training camp in Northern California.  Being a former trainer at UofM in the 80s, I have seen the effects first hand, especially when i see former players at reunions now and how much better I am compared to what they endured.  But CFB is a totally different ballgame than HS football.  My son has been a hockey and lacrosse goalie for many years with no concussion or injury problems, outside of of some minor things like patellar tendonitis.  He's had worse injuries in pick up basketball.  But still the concussion issue is big concern of mine and my wife who is a doctor.

The local high school here has every player have brain scans done and also we had a CT baseline taken as well (sorry i am not the doctor, but my son stayed up all night and then goes to clinic, has probes attached to his head and takes a series of tests to monitor his brain functions/response times/reactions, etc...)

So now we have a baseline, we made a deal with my son, if he gets one concussion and the doctor says there is any impact whatsoever, he is done with the sport.  He wants to play badly, so that's the deal.  Now i have to be diligent about making sure he is not covering anything up on the injury front.  He has a legit shot to a QB, so i think its going to be a bit easier for me to track him if he gets dinged. Playing other positions is not as easy to track and they have much more head contact during practice.

I still believe football is one of the best team sports invented and think that there are major benefits for my son to learn and experience by playing the game.

12/18/2015 - 3:30am There is no apples to apples comparison

THink about Carr's last bowl game in the Citrus Bowl....i was there and saw how the FLA fans said we had no chance, ESPN fan poll had "90%" of America picking FLA to beat us in the citrus bowl...and then we proceeded to kick their ass....if not for Hart's 3 fumbles in the red zone this was a 60+ to 30 ass kicking vs a 2 score win for Michigan.

Each game is unto itself and there is no transitive theory in CFB.  This would explain why M could kick the living shit out of every team in 1986 and lose to Ricky Foggie and Minnesota on Senior day....everyone said M had no chance against Mr righteous, Mr perfect heisman winner and we ran his ass all day and he cracked....M got healthy and with a killer LT, Henne back, Hart back, Mario and Arrington, we took it to 'em...

If we beat OSU in the Cesspool in '06, i truly believe the National Championship game comes down to the wire, no matter who we played....

11/27/2015 - 6:46pm 21-20 taken...will go with 22-21...

Mike Jolly with the fake extra point to make it 15-0 circa 1976....OSU comes back, takes the lead 21-15 and M scores the goal ahead TD in the last minute...Jake passes them down the field and JP scores the TD from the Wolverine formation!

11/27/2015 - 6:40pm 21-20

21-20, Fightin' Harbaughs!

11/21/2014 - 2:03am Thanks for all the great suggestions MGoFaithful!

My wife just landed from San Fran, she went to Tulane for grad school, so we are headed to Frenchman street now for some killer live music,....looking forward to some more merriment on Saturday.... I'll send out the post game review on Sunday!

11/16/2014 - 4:25pm Dude, let it go...

You should take the high road from now on...don't respond and leave it at that....any response makes you look like a douchebag....right or wrong, take the high road, at this point in M Go Blog history, you should have figured it out by now....

Jimmy Harbs or bust.....and yes, i grew up with him and got killed by him in baseball and football for many River Rats were very happy to see him move to palo alto!

09/20/2014 - 2:52am This is one we should win by 10-17 pts

A win is a win and we don't know who is going to play (ie Funchess). But if we can't beat a bottom half Pac12 team at home, i am done with this head coach.  My ND hangover has finally ended, but we didn't see improvement from this team until the 2nd half last wk vs Miami, a truly dreadful football team.  Let's get this one behind us and chalk up ND as an anomaly and hope we can continue to improve each week and compete for B10 championship.

If we lose this one, Hoke is done.  I actually don't want that to happen, as he is building a real program again from the bottom's up.  But if he can't beat teams like this at home, we need a head coaching upgrade.

Go Blue!

01/04/2014 - 12:39am Though we know it shoulda been 3 in a row....

Why oh why couldn't we have run that Copper Bowl 2 point conversion vs Ohio....what coulda been.  Thank goodness 2013 is o-vah!!!!

10/16/2013 - 2:46pm Why they don't have a Wildcat pkg with Denard and MJD

is beyond me...just for a change of pace at least...less opptys for the pass pro to not break down and result in sacks and INTS...the other team would actually have to prepare for it as well...what a waste of a real talent in Denard...

09/02/2012 - 12:22am Delusions! Should be your topic header

what the hell were you watching?

A total domination by a better team and a better coaching staff.  To watch Borges try and turn Shoelace into Tom Brady was a disgrace.  What was the ONE THING THAT BAMA WAS WORRIED ABOUT?  Denard's legs, and Borges did nothing, nothing to use this to his spread option...multiple handoffs to arguably the slowest RB in the least Norfleet showed he has some wheels and i would have liked to see him carry the ball.  I guess they were worried about fumbling, so giving Smith the ball over 10 times to gain a yard or two was an acceptable compromise.

Here's the rub...we want to avoid the tomato can games, but it sure looks like it would have done team 133 some good to play easier competition in game 1.

So be it, they lost, they learn and hopefully have that cliche'd improvement from game 1 to game 2. Of course the competition next week doesn't hurt. But its the triple option, so some additional frustration will happen next week.

The topper is that injuries happen, but they are less likely to happen against inferior competition in earlier season games since most of your ones don't play the whole game.  Just unlucky for Countess and Moore to get hurt, but playing Lewan with 4 mins left in the game when its 41-14 is plain stupid. The back ups should have been in and there is no one that can reasonably argue this fact.

I find it a bit ironic that Arizona is losing to Toledo right now...could Rich Rod lose to Toledo twice in his inaugural seasons at a new program at home?

I guess the saving grace of today is that the B10 looks abosolutely awful (save OSU) and there's a lot of football to be played.  Let's hope Countess and Lewan are available for most of the conference schedule.

01/14/2012 - 9:41pm Do you know Jim Harbaugh personally?

Sorry, but you are misguided....whether you like to admit it or not, most schools, including Michigan, DO steer players to majors that are less rigorous so they can concentrate on as much time as possible to football. Yes it hurts to admit it, but I was a trainer for the football team for 3 years when Harbaugh was there and challenging majors were the exception, not the rule.  Players who come to mind were Stefan Humphries and Ken Higgins (a fraternity brother), who were excellent students and quite frankly destined to success outside of pro football. While Stefan ended up being a very good lineman for the Broncos, he is better known as a doctor now and Higgy is a venture capitalist after getting his law degree from Harvard (he still notes to this day that law school at Harvard was easier than undergrad B School at Michigan, when coupled with the demands of football).  So get off your high horse.

I played sports against Harbaugh growing up in Ann Arbor and there was no question that he was a stud and a leader and was destined to go to Michigan and be successful there.  It all came to fruition and he has quite the resume to attest to his excellence and stature as a Michigan man.

So spare me your bs about how Jim Harbaugh is not a Michigan man because he criticized his alma mater.  He loves Michigan as much as any other Michigan man and deserves the respect and honor affored them with his proven dedication to Michigan.  You can piss and moan becuase he doesn't kiss your ass and tell you what you want hear 24/7, but them's the facts and sometimes the facts hurt.

And BTW, hoping he is a failure in his career endeavors is quite the noble position.  Grow up and save the whine for your next cheese party...

11/28/2010 - 4:59am I am all for your idea...

but i think that the thought process Brandon has shared with the public tells us otherwise.

11/28/2010 - 4:55am Stanford, 11-1, 4th in the BCS

this is my future under Harbaugh?!?  Orange or Fiesta Bowl?  I'll take it...

11/28/2010 - 4:50am It's all about the team, the team, the team

unfortunately, the team today only consistents of a very good offense that can move the ball between the 20's against good defenses and can't score points.  When was the last time you saw a team going for it on 4th and 8 at the 35yard line?  When the special teams were so damn embarrassing that they can't expect to pin them inside the 20 yrd line on a punt or make a 45 yard FG more than 50% of the time.  When 2 facets of your team are so god awful that you throw all caution to the wind, you know your team is ill prepared and not ready to compete in a major conference.  The gig is up.  Sorry I can't help you here, as you cannot expect the O to score every time unless they are playing U Mass......

11/28/2010 - 4:41am Good luck with that

it's not gonna happen....I am eager for a change as much as the next fan, but it doens't make any sense.  Brandon is too calculated in his moves to try and make a drastic move in the next 4 wks, as this would be a knee jerk reaction of a desparate institution.  If he wants a new HC, he will make his decision and move forward.  If he has already discussed a wholesale change of the D staff with Coach Rod, he would line it up and implement it after the bowl game.  The only scenario where i could see this playing out is if Coach Rod is fired and a whole new staff was brought in.  But again, I don't see this happening til after the bowl game.  It sure sucks for recruiting, but this is HIS decision and HIS legacy that he is dealing with and given his demeanor up to this point, a knee jerk move is likely not in the cards.

11/28/2010 - 4:33am It's about W's and L's

at the end of the day, it about the wins and losses.  Everything else can be psycho-analyzed until the cows come how.  He just hasn't won enough and couple that with o-fer vs MSU, OSU and PSU and you have a shit storm of gigantic proportions.  I thought he would make it through these last 2 wks since most of us expected that they would result in losses, but now even the most faithful alumni and former players are losing faith.  They are simply sick and tired of the excuses and the losses to our rivals.  If we saw progress outside of the offense, there would be a glimmer of hope, but it has not materialized, and people want a change.

We all know the Detroit MSM is seriously skewed by many from MSU, so we shit can their drivel, but former players see what we are seeing and its simply embarrassing.  Enough is enough.  Coach Rod is a great guy and he has not gotten a fair shake from the media, but that does not excuse the lack of progress.  It was simply not a good match and Brandon needs to think about the future and find a better fit.

11/28/2010 - 12:32am It's a nice idea...

but Harbaugh would bring Vic F with him as his DC.  Unlike Coach Rod, when Stanford's D sucked last year, he cleaned house and let his new DC bring in some of his own result, 9 or 10th worst D in Pac10 last year is one of the top 3 this it CAN be done.  You have to admire Coach Rod's loyalty to his assistants, but its obvious that they are not cutting it coaching the D.  The apologists can chime in now about youth, injuries, etc...but let's face it, the D did not improve as the season progressed, they regressed.

I just got back from the Stanford/Ore State game and the can of whoop ass that Stanford opened up on that team was impressive.  Their third shutout of the season.  Any way you look at it, impressive.

BTW, those naysayers saying Harbaugh couldn't adapt to Shoelace, Tate or DG as QB are high...this is the same coach that used Tavita Pritchard as his QB to upset USC in the Coliseum.  He adapted this year's O without Toby G.  He plays a mix of power I, spread, west coast and shit i have never seen before to run an innovative offense based around the playmakers on the field.   You would NOT see another regression to 3-9 or 4-8 with Harbaugh as coach.  Any you would also not see an embarrassing special teams display like we saw today and all season with the current coaching staff.  Even when Harbaugh didn't have the horses and his first 2 years, their special teams were respectable.

My ticket renewal and $5K Victor's Club donation sit on my desk until Brandon makes his decision.

11/02/2010 - 1:39pm Stanford 7-1, M 5-3....there's your bs...

Read the thread was in response to Stanford not being a destination school and a difficult place to recruit for, while Michigan has these advantages....for elementary dolts like yourself that just want to flame instead of having civil debate.  This was simple snap shot to demonstrate my point....Harbs can recruit anywhere and if he's the next head coach in A2, the recruiting will not suffer.  To your flamed point, its what you DO with your recruits that matter and it sure appears Harbaugh and his selected coaching staff are doing more with his recruits than our beloved Coach Rod is doing.

Either way, nothing will be decided until the end of the season and entire body of work is reviewed by Brandon.  I sure hope they can get that 6th win, as the seniors on this team deserve some type of post season reward for their commitment and dedication, and the extra practice time is beneficial for building long term success.

11/02/2010 - 6:48am Seems Harbs recruits pretty well at a non destination school..

Current Verbal Commits with Rival's star rankings.  Much better than Rich Rod's destination school....some more facts for the Rich Rod apologists to chew on.  Appears that "recruiting will suffer" meme with a coaching change is bunk.  Though you are right about the NFL...the Niners will come calling later this year....

10/31/2010 - 3:06am sorry, but the rich rod experiment didn't work

I have rooted for coach rod from day one. But he simply hasn't gotten it done. He is no doubt a master of offense, but he is not only an OC. He's a HC and in this role, he's not gettin' it done. I hate like hell to admit it, but his lack of attention to defense is his achilles heel and we all know you don't win championships without defense. I have been in bay area for 20+ yrs since leaving my hometown of ann arbor and its clear to me that what harbaugh has done here is nothing short of miraculous. Take a quick peek at his current commits. 8 four star recruits at stanford. A school with zero tolerance for substandard grades and test scores to be admitted. Meanwhile, M struggles to find players to join the winningest program of all time.

Its done, harbaugh needs to be brandon's #1 focus. He will have them competing for B10 championships in 2-3 yrs. The only obstacle with Harbs is some fabily dynamics that have to be addressed with his previous wife and kids that he doesn't want to adandon by moving back to A2. If he can't resolve this, he will stay at S for a long time or move to the Niners HC position that will oepn up at the end of the year.(Though I doubt he takes it...)

I am hoping he is able to work out the family dilemma and resurrect Bo's legacy. I know the guy and he has the right intentions and simply loves college football and what it stands for in developing young men into valuable contributors to society.

I have zero ill will towards coach rod and think he is a terrific person as well, but this has simply not worked out.

08/26/2010 - 8:14pm Only one way to voice my opinion...

The $5k per year i donate to the Victors club and renewal for club level seating is going to cease to exist....just like The Game on the last wk of the regular season.  And I only go to 1-3 games a year depending on my travel schedule from California and give the other tix to friends who are loyal UofM faithful.

This is simply dispicable and I won't renew when they change it.

The Curse of Bo's Passing continues.......

the same time as you bbb...and you have hit the nail on the head. I think the RR saying is: "are you gonna be the hammer or the nail?"

02/27/2010 - 5:58pm Agreed, 7 W's is the over/under..

I hate to admit it, but if he doesn't get to 7 wins, he's done. I will support whoever our coach is 100%, and I give plenty of money to the University for both academic programs and a multiple club seat owner. But enough of my friends who are alums and in the same situation (including several former players), will not stand for another 5-7 or 6-6 season. Their general consensus is 8-4 or its time to make a change. So a big late season win at 7-5 is likely needed, or 8-4.

I am confident the O will step up this year and continue its growth and progression. It all comes down to the D and special teams this year. If they step up, a nice season is on the horizon. If they struggle, I think the winds of change will be upon us.

02/23/2010 - 6:17pm Living in Switzerland...
