Obligatory.....

The only thing I'm going to worry about is remembering my rain jacket. I'll trust that the team will have this game on lockdown by then.

We can actually use the weather pattern to our advantage. If we're up 10 or 14 by the time the death storm rolls in, there isn't any way Sparty will be able to make up the difference.
Only way we lose this is if we aren't ahead by halftime AND we lose the rock fight in the 2nd half.

At least in the first half. If the heavy stuff doesn't start until around 10, Harbaugh might want to to score as fast and as often as possible if he believes the second half will be a weather-related slog. Running into a eight-man box ain't going to cut it, so we may have to go to the air early to get a cushion that can't be overcome on a sloppy field.

2.5 hrs into a night game that starts at 7:30? Will be just starting the 2nd half - plenty of time left to continue building on the first half lead. We all know this game needs to end somewhere around 57-3...
October 7th, 2017 at 10:22 AM ^
I'm thinking a final score of 53-9

Has it occurred to anyone that the weather might *@%# up MSU's passing game, too? Apparently not, based on what I've seen here and in other threads .....
October 7th, 2017 at 8:07 AM ^
We are all paranoid from watching them pull out wins and near-wins against Ohio State in bad weather when they otherwise would have gotten killed.
On a dry, calm field we will beat them. On a rainy, windy field we are giving them a chance . . .
Who needs that?
October 7th, 2017 at 8:07 AM ^
That is a good point, but I think a lot of people think that Gary, Hurst, Winovich, and Bush will mess up MSU's passing game enough as is...and that we have the advantage, but the weather is more likely to equalize the teams ala MSU @ OSU 2015 with nobody moving the ball well. If we can't pass well in a monsoon (not saying that will happen), MSU can stack the box and the outcome becomes more precarious.
October 7th, 2017 at 12:49 PM ^
MSU isn't a very good offensive team in general. They've scored 18 and 17 points the last two weeks, in good weather. They aren't going to win a shootout. What they can win is an ugly sludgefest, and bad weather could contribute to that.

Totally was just about to say that!
Team's strength is 2nd half adjustments. Heck, I don't know of any other college team as good as us adjusting in 2nd half and kicking butt.

Why does it always seem that forces align for MSU for this game? On a dry track, UM will wipe the field with these smoke&mirrors pretenders. On a wet, windy field, with the pass games shut down by weather, everything is evened out.
Nonetheless, I'll trust Don Brown's defense to do a better job stopping MSU, than MSU's defense will do stopping UM.

Yes it make it a slugfest once the rain starts, but in theory we have the first half or so to open up a couple of score lead.
If we are slogging it out 9-6 in the 4th quarter, it won't be directly weather related. It'll be because our offense couldn't get traction in the first half when the weather was OK.
