Purdue fans predictions and comments for the Michigan game

Submitted by Decatur Jack on

To say that some Purdue fans are confident might be a massive understatement. They are riding high right now after upsetting Missouri, and expect no less against Michigan.

I was surfing around Big Ten blogs and message boards and I found a few comments that were a little mouthy from Purdue fans IMO, and I thought I'd post them here - just in case you weren't properly motivated.

Purdue could mess around and beat Michigan next week. Jeff Brohm is a difference maker.

Purdue upsets Michigan next week. You heard it here first
It feels strange to type this, but Purdue is the biggest test Michigan's defense has faced to this point.
Yes, Purdue is good enough to beat Michigan
Purdue has actually beaten Ohio State more times in the last 10 years than Michigan has.

Oh, and we needed fewer tries too.

Brohm is going to scheme against a very strong defense and Purdue is not going to get shut down completely. I am not expecting another 35-42 points, but We’re going to score some. Can we keep Michigan kicking field goals or worse?
I don’t think Michigan has the offensive talent to run away from us, let alone most teams in the Big Ten.
Purdue has more wins over Ohio State since 2004 than Michigan

I say that’s legit.

Michigan is way overrated
I wouldn't be surprised if UM ended up 6 - 6 or 7 - 5. I give UM at least 3 BIG victories because of their defense but unless our offense improves drastically from it's putrid play the previous two weeks against inferior opponents Purdue fans will be celebrating a decisive victory.

I agree with some fans here, if Purdue is able to get an early lead, UM simply doesn't have the offense to score enough points.
If Purdue can't beat UM then Brohm needs to be fired. The Big Ten is way down this year except Penn State which the only team getting a major bowl invite. Harbaugh has nothing to prove this year because if you true football fans have been paying any attention Harbaugh is heading to the Colts next year.
I watched them play a good but not great AFA team yesterday. Their QB did not throw accurately and made some poor decisions. Michigan defense is solid but certainly vulnerable, didn't have much of a pass rush on smaller AFA OL.

We can beat these guys.
Michigan is certainly beatable
Playing in front of a sellout homecoming crowd against atop ten team...I can't see a let down. Michigan could handle them but I dont think it would be because we're not ready to play.
We cannot lose to this clown
Two games in a row with mediocre performances till 4 the qtr. Should Purdue strike early and often by getting points, it might be too late for Michigan to catch up.
This year is different and feels different. We now know how to score with a balanced attack. Our defense plays stingy as well.
Purdue 35 MI 24.
Kids believing in themselves is the key,he is telling them right now lets win our first big ten game at home in front of a sellout crowd, shock the world again.
Purdue will blow the game open if Michigan plays as lethargic as they have in the past two games in the red zone thru 3 quarters. My hunch stays with a track race pace that Michigan cannot keep up with. Holding officially at Purdue 35 Michigan 24.
Michigan is ripe for the picking. I know we haven't beat a ranked team in yrs. It will happen on 9/23.
My guess is that Harbaugh tries to simply out tough and out muscle Purdue (which a team hasn't either tried or been able to) to run them down in the late 3rd and 4th quarter...my guess is that is what Missouri wanted to do but when Purdue got up 21-0 in the first quarter, that went to hell and a hand basket.
If you enjoyed watching us crush Missouri, you'll enjoy what Brohm has in store for Michigan. 42-12 Boilers
The great thing about playing Michigan right now is their quarterback SUCKS! Boiler the fuck up baby!
Brohm has us on a path to 9-3, just like Tiller in '97. We're going to whup that ass on Sept 23 and I'm going to say I told ya so
35-7 Boilermakers. Michigan is garbage.
They can't score in the red zone HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Fuck Michigan
Sellout crowd = huge Purdue win
Michigan is scared
Jeff Brohm > Don Brown
I have been waiting a long, long time for a huge Purdue upset, and I can feel it coming this Saturday against Michigan. For 4 yrs with Hazell we sucked, but now we have a legitimate coach in Brohm. Michigan is 100 percent overrated and 100 percent beatable. They have no idea what's in store for them. Harbaugh's "vaunted offense" has been a complete joke this year. Their defense will have no answer for Brohm's schemes. He's a brilliant play caller. Expect this to be just like the Missouri game. Michigan would get walloped by Missouri… we shut THEM DOWN. Can Michigan even move the ball? Can they even score points? We get through and sack Speight once and HE'S DONE. There is no reason why we can't win this game. Michigan dies officially on September 23, a day that will live in Purdue football history forever.
What a joy it would be to embarrass Michigan on national tv
Stat of the Day:
MICHIGAN SUCKS
Don Brown vs Jeff Brohm? One is a genius and the other coaches for Michigan. Brohm wins every day
Purdue wins and the meltdown from Michigan fans will be EPIC
This will be my daughter's first game and she is so excited to watch us beat Michigan.
Purdue 42, MI 6

I would love to see the entire fanbase reaction if they fired Brohm because we beat them in his 4th game as their coach. That is the worst take I've seen in months. Not shocked the same guy pulled out the Harbaugh to the Colts line.

Upsetting Mizzou? Is that supposed to be difficult? How is that an upset, too?

As for Purdue honks, they're all over Twitter and riding high. It's pretty comical. They have not played a defense like Michigan's yet. Bring them on.

Also, the one about UM finishing 6-6 or 7-5 is hysterical. There is no chane in hell that happens outside of major injuries to many key players.

I kinda agree with the first 8 comments posted.   #9, "Michigan is way overrated" might or might not be true - certainly nothing we've seen since Florida would convince me it's necessarily wrong-especially if you remove the word "way".

After that they sort-of run themselves into a RCMB-like ditch.  But the first ones to me seem pretty damn on-point.

Fair enough, but Michigan being overrated doesn't necessarily justify this unwarranted belief that a Purdue upset is a foregone conclusion this Saturday.  Methinks the Boilers doth protest too much....

Overrated with dangerous special teams and the number one defense in the country. As Michigan starts finishing off drives you will have to retract your statements. You could easily end up looking as foolish as purdue fans. With your overwhelming confidence and fearless outlook backing your football, I am sure you will be back on the bandwagon after this one. Maybe you can just roll with Purdue for the remainder of the season.

I'm curious.  Given that I started going to games back in 1968 when my brother was in school there and that my great grandfather, grandfather, father, brother and sister all graduated from U of M before I graduated in 1981, held season tickets from 1988 to 2014 and recurited northern Ohio for Gary Moeller from 92-94 I've only got a smidgen of your experince here  and certainly fit the profile of a "band wagon" fan given the johnny-come-lately nature of my allegiance to the university.

I look forward to your wisdom and insight to enlighten me further.

I don’t think Michigan has the offensive talent to run away from us, let alone most teams in the Big Ten.

It doesnt predict a win much less guarentee a Purdue win. It says they're not going to get blown out ('run away from us") and that we're not going to blow out most teams in the Big Ten.  Given what you've seen so far do you disagree?

I do agree with you on talent though.  That's there - the talent just isnt old enough yet.

I was trying to refer to two different ones.

A) the one that "gurantees" a win.

"Purdue upsets Michigan next week. You heard it here first"

Certainly predicts a Purdue win.  And seems to do so in a pretty confident manner.  Hence, it feels to me like it at least approachs a guarantee.

B) the talent one you quoted.

What he is saying is that it is not a talent issue stopping the offense from blowing out team. It is because the team is not clicking. I belive this will turn around as the young players get more experance with each other and start playig more as a unit. Will it start this week? I think it will start to come together more, but to the point we run away with it? Not sure.

Down the road i think they very likely could start running away when the offense starts getting in rhythem.

I talked to some Purdue fans at a bar in Pittsburgh Saturday night and I can confirm that they are lit as fuck right now. He was telling me his plans to bet on Purdue if Michigan was favored by like 8 or more.

I know this is just small sample size of their fan base, but come on. Only douchebags like Dienhart would pick Purdue. What a joke. It's crazy enough they think they will win, but to predict a blowout? Wow. Thanks for posting this, it's going to make Saturday a little more enjoyable. We win, in spite of Speight.

I think this is the week he puts it all together. Something like 23/32 for 300 yards and 4 TDs. DPJ getting increased snaps will bring more explosiveness to the passing game. With Black out, Perry will be locked in and get open to convert on 3rd down at least 3 or 4 times. There will be no more than two misses on makeable throws. DPJ makes 2 explosive plays and Zentry has a breakout performance to make Speight into SPEIGHT!

Blough is a turnover machine who hasn't played a real defense yet this year (21 INTs last year, 57% completions). He will be overconfident going into this this game and will try to force throws into tight coverage. He will also face heavy pressure from the pass rush. His coaches will be in his ear telling him Michigan's secondary is young and inexperienced, which could lead to some throws he'll wish he could take back.

He's no more of a turnover machine than Speight is.  And Michigan hasn't faced a passing offense like Purdue yet this season either -- its not even close.  And frankly, I'm not even sure if the secondary is capable of tight coverage.  We haven't seen them tested a whole lot.  I have however seen Michigan's secondary get burned a few times, but teams just haven't been able to convert.  A confident QB and offense playing at home could be pretty dangerous for even this defense.

My big fear with this game is that the defense is able to hold them to around 20 or fewer, but the offense can't get their shit together and gifts Purdue points and/or field position.  I still think its some sort of ugly 22-19 type of game.

and/or normal homer fan excitement stuff, but I did enjoy the guy saying Purdue's defense "plays stingy". They let up 524 to Louisville and 396 to Ohio U. That's stingy like GERG was a good coordinator for the 3-3-5.

Not even sure how much credit Purdue can take for hanging with Louisville right now, because the Cardinals do not look good at all. Purdue actually the least amount of points in the Cardinals all season (28 vs. 35 for UNC and 47 for Clemson)

I think Purdue gets their shots in, but are largely contained. The offense farts it's way to a victory. Something like 31-17
