OSU's backup QB out indefinitely with injury
Looks like OSU's no 2 quarterback is out indefinitely with a broken bone in his hand. He's a RS sophomore, formerly a 4* recruit.
Best of luck to him on his recovery. RS Freshman Dwayne Haskins will try to fill in the backup role.

IF, and obviously this is not going to happen, but if Martell were to lead OSU to a National Title, they would not be saying, "The 3rd String QB led OSU to the National Championship." They would be saying, "The 4th string QB led OSU to the National Championship," because that's where he started on the depth chart. Obviously, whoever starts the game is QB1 that day, but your position on the totem pole doesn't change, just who's healthy.
So, no. The people equating Martell to Jones are wrong.

Rub some dirt on it and send him back out there, he'll be fine.

Don't they have a hot 5-star freshman waiting in the wings? The kind that might be ready by late in the season?

But he also happens to be the kind of 5-star freshman that has to stand on his dad's toes to be tall enough to ride roller coasters.

They have plenty of highly ranked recruits who have mostly yet to see the field. You have two four stars with more time in the system ahead of Tate Martell, whose recruitment was genuinely strange, and given what we often see from players with "interesting" recruitments, I wouldn't be shocked, if he was beaten out, that he'd transfer.

Espcially is Emory Jones comes in and plays well.
Martell's ceiling is not that high. Not because of talent, but because the ceiling is literally far away from him because he's so short.

He's 5'10". Unless you're running the option, it's difficult to tailor your offense around a guy like that. And this isn't Bishop Gorman, as JT Barrett said on twitter during spring. He's not going to have enough talent around him to win every game (though they'll likely always have enough to have at least a winning B1G record) just by showing up.

He'll probably be good.

Name is Joe Burrow. Confederate soldiers burrowed into the ground to shield themselves from northern forces.
ESPN made it happen, folks.

Ohio State uses gray as a primary color. Confederate soldiers wore gray uniforms. Ohio State is racist.

Fuck that "beat them at their best" bull shit. Is it more satisfying? Sure, maybe a little bit, but winning is all that matters. If they can brag about beating our shitty RR and Hoke teams, we can brag about beating them not at their best if it comes to that.
August 23rd, 2017 at 11:26 AM ^
Agreed 100%
If OSU fans are going to revel in beating up on really shitty RichRod and Hoke teams, then I would not at all feel bad about beating them if they were not 100% at their best.
Wins are wins. You take them how you can get them.

He's a good QB and from Athens, Ohio. I'd love to see him transfer to OU. If he's granted a medical redshirt, does he still have to sit a year if he transfers?
August 23rd, 2017 at 12:53 PM ^
if he starts the 17 season at OSU and then transfers he would have to sit out next year.

If "out indefinitely" is the same as "suspended indefinitely", he should be back for the Indiana game.

OSU QBs always seem to stick around for 100 years and repeatedly destroy Michigan. What I would give for them to actually have some real struggle at that position.

They'll be fine no matter who lines up under center.
They could line up their waterboy and I'm pretty sure they're still good for an 11-win season at worst.

i actually liked haskins as a prospect...hes one of several QB recruits i would not have minded going blue (if not peters, haskins and hurts looked as promising, if not more so, than more highly touted patterson, eason, etc). forgot about him until now but ill be interested to follow his progress
