OSU's backup QB out indefinitely with injury

Submitted by MGoRob on

Looks like OSU's no 2 quarterback is out indefinitely with a broken bone in his hand. He's a RS sophomore, formerly a 4* recruit.

Best of luck to him on his recovery. RS Freshman Dwayne Haskins will try to fill in the backup role.

IF, and obviously this is not going to happen, but if Martell were to lead OSU to a National Title, they would not be saying, "The 3rd String QB led OSU to the National Championship."  They would be saying, "The 4th string QB led OSU to the National Championship," because that's where he started on the depth chart.  Obviously, whoever starts the game is QB1 that day, but your position on the totem pole doesn't change, just who's healthy.

So, no.  The people equating Martell to Jones are wrong.

They have plenty of highly ranked recruits who have mostly yet to see the field. You have two four stars with more time in the system ahead of Tate Martell, whose recruitment was genuinely strange, and given what we often see from players with "interesting" recruitments, I wouldn't be shocked, if he was beaten out, that he'd transfer.

He's 5'10". Unless you're running the option, it's difficult to tailor your offense around a guy like that. And this isn't Bishop Gorman, as JT Barrett said on twitter during spring. He's not going to have enough talent around him to win every game (though they'll likely always have enough to have at least a winning B1G record) just by showing up.

Name is Joe Burrow.  Confederate soldiers burrowed into the ground to shield themselves from northern forces.

ESPN made it happen, folks.

Fuck that "beat them at their best" bull shit. Is it more satisfying? Sure, maybe a little bit, but winning is all that matters. If they can brag about beating our shitty RR and Hoke teams, we can brag about beating them not at their best if it comes to that.

Definitely hurts their depth but probably not a huge deal for OSU. Haskins is still their as a backup, he was competing with Burrow and is probably gonna start next year after Barrett leaves. OSU still has a very capable backup. All this does is probably ensure Burrow transfers out now.

Definitely some eyebrow raising news for OSU. I really don't care who is playing QB for them when we play them, just win the game. I am jonesing big-time for a win over them. Been too long.

OSU QBs always seem to stick around for 100 years and repeatedly destroy Michigan. What I would give for them to actually have some real struggle at that position.

I wish this kid would have came to the good guys when harbaugh was trying to flip him he is better than Barrett right now he just isn't mobile. He would have been great under harbaugh I am also from Columbus and all my friends wanted him to come in for Barrett last yr

i actually liked haskins as a prospect...hes one of several QB recruits i would not have minded going blue  (if not peters, haskins and hurts looked as promising, if not more so, than more highly touted patterson, eason, etc).  forgot about him until now but ill be interested to follow his progress
