Solomon is crazy strong for a freshman. I expect Bredeson to be average at worst this year, so I don't think this is too much of a negative on him - Solomon is just going to be very good.

In another rep Mone absolutely wrecks Ruiz, though he doesn't get off to make the tackle. However, if he pushes every C/G 2 yards into the backfield like that, he could make 0 tackles and still be All-Conference. I'm not sure where the Mone out of shape rumors have come from, dude has always been big and athletic at his size. He looks good.

A lot of the DL were winning the rep against the OL and then failed to get off the block to make the tackle. Just a few reps and mostly of youngins, but that's the next step for those guys like Hudson and Vilain. Shows why Solomon was a 5 star.

Agree and honestly, if you've reag UMBig11's remarks about the first week, the linebackers are ridiculously athletic.  If our line does nothing more than penetrate and crush the pocket and make the offensive play hesitate for even a second and let our linebackers make the play in the backfield, I'm more than fine with that.

OL is our biggest question this season. I'm delighted to see Solomon excel, but if Bredeson is getting chucked by good DLs half the time we're going to have a hard time moving the football consistently. It's not even a knock on Bredeson. But he is one of the only experienced guys we have to put on the field. The other guys are either even younger, or couldn't beat him out last year. Solomon looks awesome, though.

It's a drill where the DL knows it's a run into a gap next to him. Furthermore the OL doesnt have the benefit of bodies next to him, or a play design misdirecting the DL.  Soloman was the #1 DT recruit in the country and is already at playing weight.  A future NFL pick.  He won one rep, in which he was advantaged allowing him to use just use his brute strength in a grand fashion, but ultimately it's meaningless and says nothing about Bredeson.

Bredeson was a fresman all-american and started all year. Solomon is a beast and got him on one rep. The only thing I see about the clip is how put together Solomon is. I only see positive growth and that is why we have coaches. Greg Frey allready told Bredeson why that happpened and since those two were butting heads all practice were are all the other clips of Solomon beating Bredeson. Talk about overreaction.

Bredeson seemed off balance there.  I can't tell if pulled him down or if he just let him fall.   If Solomon pulled him down (grabbing the front of the OL shoulder pads), would that be defensive holding?  I know defensive players can grab offensive players to get at the ball carrier or ball, but that move didn't seem kosher, possibly because Solomon did it so well.

What Solomon did is legal and coached. Defensive holding against a lineman would be something like holding a jersey to prevent a lineman from executing an assignment, like getting out on a screen, or pulling, or moving to pick someone up in pass pro.

It's called a "push-pull" move and was executed very nicely by Solomon. You hit the o linemen hard to make him shift his weight forward to counter the momentum. As you hit him you also take two big fistfuls of jersey because when his weight shifts forward you stop pushing and instead pull. The results are usually an o lineman on his knees trying to keep his balance. And yes it is perfectly legal.

He will really excel as Mattison teaches him hand techniques. Vilain, Hudson, Solomon, Jeter,, Paye ... there are numerous guys physically ready to play some snaps this year and the next few years should be ridiculously fun.

I think it's justified given our performance there the past few years.

That said, we had an NFL defensive line last year and I think this year's (despite having less depth) is even more talented -at least the first 4-5 guys.

Mone (Health caveat applies here)

Gary

Hurst

Solomon

is a terrifyingly beastly D-line.  If our corners (Long and Hill) can hold up, we may see a repeat of last year's defense.  All projected major contributors (save 5 star Solomon) have a year under Don Brown's system which supposedly take a leap in year 2.  I'd be happy with just a repeat performance.

True freshman are absolutely going to have to be reliable role players this season. I won't judge anybody on one rep but that looked encouraging.

Matt Dudek has the full video on his twitter where you get to see 7-8 more 1 on 1 reps. I don't know how to put the video on here but his twitter handle is @Thee_Matty_D

People getting on Bredeson: it was one rep. Great to see for Solomon, but its still one rep...

Watch the rest of the video: the OL won every other snap on that tape...

So if people are freaking out over the one snap Bredeson lost, they should be equally happy at the fact that was the only rep that they lost....

No gary or hurst clips from what i can see however...but I'll still bet that the OLine will be better by the end of the year than this past year's combination

The defensive lineman only needs to make one sack to have a successful day to the casual fan, meanwhile the offensive lineman has to be perfect.

A Dlineman should beat an offensive lineman in this drill, the key with the RB is that they simply need to cut to the side that the DL cheats to.  RB was indecisive, Bredeson extended a bit too much and Solomon gave up the other gap.

What would be concerning was if Solomon simply pushed Bredeson into the RB, but again, one single snap in camp is much much much too small of a sample to judge anyone on.

Solomon definitely has some size and power and looks agile which is nice too see.

I'm excited that we get 4 long, glorious years with the hero and we can clear the zero's scholly in 3 quick years.

Hard to tell what he has done pre-snap but it looks like he lunged at him and had all of his weight forward.  Bredeson was never balanced and didn't have his feet under him thus making it easy for Solomon to do a push-pull move on him.  I'll give credit to Solomon for executing the move but it's more Bredeson being bad than Solomon being awesome.
