We play Rutgers at night at Rutgers. It will be a cold day in hell before we tee it up at night against Rutgers in Ann Arbor.
While I agree that playing at night is pretty common place for almost every football program in this day and age, a night game at Michigan Stadium carries a extra cache' and is seen as a big event. Any team we grant the privilege of facing off against us at night is going to gain a certain level of legitmacy; legitimacy that I'd just as soon deny MSU. Admittedly, my attitude is partially motivated by spite, but so be it. Fuck MSU; I say treat them like any other also-ran and play them at Noon.
When did MSU move up to the 2nd tier?

til 3-9 reference - I thought about a codicile saying No 3 or 9's need appear in responses --oh well.
I'm sure everyone would have have listened to that. Maybe it would have lasted for the first 3-9 responses, but after those, it's anyone's guess.
educated at UM Engin so it was Great Books for me in the advanced English department. I even asked my wife about the word (LSA/School of ED) but it was for usage not spelling.
humble-brag.
That's why they have the mandate. Prime time gets bigger ad revenue.
I actually think the B1G already mandated the night games, so I would look for another night game to be announced as well.
This would be a great game for the team to wear all blue. I thought the blue pants looked real cool under the lights in 2014. Pair the blue pants with our normal home blue (not the terrible numbers they wore in 14), and I think it would look pretty sick.
Just, no.
This would be a great game for the team to wear their normal home uniform. I thought the blue pants looked really bad under the lights in 2014. Pair the maize pants with out normal home blue (not the terrible numbers they wore in 14), and I think it would look pretty sick.
The basketball success was in spite of Brandon, not because of him.
Or maybe some maize jerseys with anthracite-gray pants and neon shoes. Maybe throw a chrome lid on that puppy. Hooooo-boy! That'd be sick!
I say it's time for THE BUMBLEE'S TRIUMPHANT RETURN!!! Perfect time for these sweet, sweet uni's to come back. And to totally surprise them I say we warm up in our regular jersey's and then change to these when we go back to the locker room!. THEY'LL NEVER EXPECT THAT!
lots and lots of tent spikes.
Just looking for a cupcake. Going against Cell Block S should not be much of a problem...
I'm completely fine with games I'm not going to being at night.
By the time the game starts, MSU will be playing a bunch of middle school recruits because all of the regulars will be in jail. JH goes for 2 on the last touchdown.
A poll of (a) season ticket holders and (b) tv watchers.
I am presuming that season ticket holders overwhelmingly hate the idea of night games, and especially the MSU game, and more generally any October/November games.
I also presume that tv watchers overwhelmingly like the idea of night games.
Problem is, that it is the season ticket holders who provide most of the revenue for the University of Michigan Athletic Department. Note three line items in the last budget; revenue from ticket sales, from "conference distributions," and from "preferred seating and other gifts."

The people paying for PSD's and tickets are the absolute, true backbone of Athletic Department revenue. Not tv. Not apparel sales. Not the Regents. Not anything else.
I dare say, if we only had to accomodate Ann Arborites from the Old West Side, we could have night games every week, and host them at Pioneer's field.
But we have people coming in from Grand Rapids, Traverse City, Windsor, Flint, Saginaw, Bloomfield Hills and Grosse Pointe. Not to mention Chicago, New York and Los Angeles.
I dunno; if mass protests really worked, to oust Brandon, maybe they will work (along with the threat of a money shutoff) to severely limit the number of night games.
Warde Manuel works for the Regents; and you better believe that the Regents work for donors.
We've had three and none in Harbaugh's first two seasons. We're hardly going full SEC with our scheduling.
Also, many donors, including myself, like night games. Night games are going to be a part of our life going forward. The best you can hope for is only one home night game per season.
I went to two of the night games. I enjoyed them, and told my friends that it would be fun, to have one night game every four years or so. In early September.
I sold my four tickets plus a Blue Lot parking pass for $1000, for the third night game.
I could go that route, if lots of young non-season ticket holders were willing to pay a lot. I just don't know if night games will atract a certain kind of aftermarket buyer, when the opponent is not Notre Dame.
So, I have options. Sell to the highest bidder, and hopefully make a profit. Maybe.
...I think you could fetch that. Just the novelty factor on its own would draw interest. And if both teams start strong, you might net more than $1000.
Sparty could be looking at 0-4 or 1-3 at best. Conversely, we should be 3-1 with a 97%-91% chance we are 4-0.
and you are not wrong. It's a fair point. But if the game-time decision gets made two weeks before game day, it is a real problem.
Agreed. But game times not being decided til the last minute is a whole different issue.
I'd rather go to a night game as well since I fly in. Usually I have to take Friday off from work to make it work for Saturday early games. And everything just feels so rushed getting to the game. I'd take Saturday night over noon starts for my situation.
OH NO! People might have to stay up late to have fun? The HORROR!
You must be a ton of fun at parties.
"My" agenda might see us having a night game once every 3-4 years. I expect that in that regard, "my" agenda would be very much like the Regents' agenda, Warde Manuel's agenda, and Brian Cook's agenda.
Oh; and again, because it was my original thought on this topic; I'd like to see a poll, of all season ticket holders, and then others. That is the way that we eliminate some of the doubt on what you propose.
I recall a long time ago a poll of MGoBlog members. Most were not season ticket holders. Most went to 1-2 games a year, if memory serves me. The age demographics were what you'd expect. Who can link us to those numbers?
I love how you claim the majority of season ticket holders loathe night games with absolutely nothing to back you. I can play that game, too, I suppose. My claim is that a very vocal minority of Michigan fans in general (I still don't know why you are referring to only season ticket holders) do not like night games.
...as a placeholder for, "the people who pay the bills, including Jim Harbaugh's salary."
Twice now, I have suggested that we try to do some polling (or find the Athletic Department's numbers) on what the views of donors are, toward night games. So I am not trying to foist any phony numbers on you or anybody else. I am suggesting that we get some real numbers.
