Probably due to his commitment NOT being firm. A firm commit flies from California to visit Ann Arbor 3 times on his own dime in addition to his official visit? Then the media would be all over him wondering why he keeps visiting Ann Arbor if he's solid to the Tide. I'm not saying the media shouldn't cover the #1 recruit's decision. That is their job. But it is also the source of the drama. Not the recruit who just wants to silently make a decision and go to school. When you have people following his family on twitter and instagram, reporting on who he hangs out with and takes pictures with on Snapchat and Instagram, reporting on what outfit his trainer is wearing, staking out airports... that's not on the recruit. The kid is going to get the attention no matter what he does. That doesn't make it his fault or even make it his desire. Say he's committed and claims his commitment to Bama is solid, even though it clearly hasn't been solid. Then he chooses Michigan instead of Bama. You think he isn't going to cause a bunch of attention that way?

Yes and no though. While I do agree the fans and media spurred on a lot of this attention over the last couple of weeks, he did have ample opportunity to shut it all down. Like when Tua did they would be on the same flight to Alabama on Sunday, Najee denied it, and then they were on the same flight to Alabama on Sunday.

A guy conversant with dealing with enormous media attention would have known how to shut this down -- that's true enough.  But he could have been genuinely undecided or he may not have possessed a great deal of media savvy when he made the "just show up" plan and simply decided at the end to let it run its course.  Or maybe he liked the attention, which for a guy wanting to be a star athlete is not the worst failing in the world.

My view is that it doesn't really matter whether he was trying to cultivate attention or not.  What matters is whether he was honest and forthcoming with the coaches involved, and none of them are going to tell us the whole story about that.  Absent a reason to believe he strung out Michigan's staff unfairly, we really have to take this as 'crootin and let it go.  Losing him is big, but being in the hunt with him is big as well, and Bama is certainly worthy competition in that respect.  Whether Harris is a man of character will reveal itself over time.

You're more guilty of creating drama than he is!  He never said that he would just show up, that was some recruiting guy somewhere.  Some recruiting guy said it was entirely possible that he would just show somewhere, and everyone ran with that.  Now here we are, and people like you are saying he said that.  He did not.

So stop creating the drama you want to complain about.

We are the ones that caused all the drama, not Harris.  He just did what he said he was going to do.

We are the ones that went into wild mood swings every time he did a normal daily activity . . . "Najee's wearing blue!" . . . "Najee's wearing red!" . . . Najee's eating grits!" . . . Najee's drinking cider!"

Glad that's over.

Wait . . . but what about Solomon??

We got some guys that are good coming back. If we get Samuels that will be another horse in the stable. What's really important is the OL guys we've got signed; they are the ones who will truly impact the running game. If we get Solomon it will be even better. With Coach Harbaugh at the reigns all Harris going to 'bama means is that we go in a different direction.

The Lottery, with its weekly pay-out of enormous prizes, was the one public event to which the proles paid serious attention. It was probable that there were some millions of proles for whom the Lottery was the principal if not the only reason for remaining alive. It was their delight, their folly, their anodyne, their intellectual stimulant. Where the Lottery was concerned, even people who could barely read and write seemed capable of intricate calculations and staggering feats of memory. There was a whole tribe of men who made their living simply by selling systems, forecasts, and lucky amulets. Winston had nothing to do with the Lottery, which was managed by the Ministry of Plenty, but he was aware (indeed everyone in the party was aware) that the prizes were largely imaginary. Only small sums were actually paid out, the winners of the big prizes being nonexistent persons. -George Orwell

Disappointed?  Really?

Who didn't see this coming?

When the girl you have been chasing flirts with another guy, then sure, be disappointed.

When she moves in with him, gets engaged, and is standing at the alter with him . . . it's time to see the writing on the wall.

It ain't happening.  Move on.

Good luck to him. May be a blessing that we didn't get him, I think he's got some growing up to do.

Yes. He is an 18 year-old. He does have growing up to do. He was an Alabama commit for over a year, and stuck with his commitment . I would say he is more mature than most. He personally never said he was coming here.

It's not what he didn't say, it's what he did say. It was intentionally misleading, for the purpose of adding drama to his "decision." He also probably said something to our staff to make them "extremely confident." Other high school athletes have handled similar situations much better than this- our Rashan Gary is a an example of that. Again, good luck to the guy.

He also had a long talk with Steve Sarkisian not a day after Kiffen was fired.  From that point, he was out at Michigan.  What was said in that convo?  Did he explain things to Harbaugh?  I wonder if he called Harbaugh after he talked to the Bama people?  I hope he did, but I doubt it.
