But what did he do? We don't know that he said anything to the coaches. Only thing we were going on was what reportes and crystal ballz were saying. No on really had access to any inside information. He committed to Alabama, played in an all-star game, then enrolled at Alabama. Everything else was made up hype.

Or Sam Webb put it out there that the staff was "extremely confident" for clicks and subscriptions. For someone saying another person has growing up to do, you seem pretty damn oblivious to scams. "MichiganMan" - uh-huh.

Yet another shot for me. But perhaps, maybe just maybe, the singular obsession the board seems to have with this teenager will come to an end and I can start to sober up.

Naaaaaa they'll be more. Better ask the wife to make yet another run to the liquor store.

Good for UM for making a run at him. Hope Walker turns out to be as good as we hoped last year at this time he would be.

This is meant 100% seriously.  The linked article is fact-based and succinct.  The attached photo to the article may seem stalkerish, but given the trajectory of this story, it was needed IMHO.

Full disclsoure, the al.com Director of Content is a guy named Izzy Gould.  Izzy is a friend and has built a solid reputation for sports reporting.  Izzy is a Philly guy -- far from an SEC-homer, despite being a University of Florida guy.

Congrats to Izzy and his staff for their work.

Just trying to give credit where credit is due.  So many wanted to break this story, but Izzy and the al.com staff did the job, and did it right.  So far, I have not seen any cheap shots against Michigan and/or the B1G in their reporting.

One of these days, I am going to make Izzy a fan of mgoblog's original content.

A small part of me is bothered too.  I did use the word "stalkerish" in my post.  I am on this side of the argument 95%-plus of the time.

The reason I feel differently about this instance is because there has been so much speculative, if not downright false reporting on this story.  I also think a photo of showing Najee and Tua together is newsworthy considering many impugned Tua's credibility when he said they were planning to fly together.

I also probably feel differently because I am biased and I support my friend's work.

Oh well.  I hope we land A. Solomon.  I would have taken the deal if someone told me 3 weeks ago that we coud land 1 of the 2 guaranteed.

Glad it's over. Weirdest recruitment ever bar none. Made no sense what so ever dragging it out this long. He knew where he was going yet he kept pulling on michigan's heart strings for whatever reason. Pray to God Najee's style of choosing a school doesnt become the norm

Now is the time though. Harbaugh NEEDS to overachieve starting now. He needs to win a B1G, he needs to make the playoffs and then, and only then can we expect to start landing big time recruits like Najee. He needs to do it QUICKlY because schools like 0SU and Alabama are just raking in the talent

Michigan is being crushed in recruiting by OSU and we went 10-3 with a loaded team, losing to OSU. It's not panic time, but you start looking at Oline recruiting and see OSU becoming Bama North, along with two straight 3rd places in our division, and it's definitely not fine and dandy either. The reason not to panic is there is no alternative. Harbaugh is the best we can do, even if that means he's like Bo and winning a lot of games but never a national title.

Both Meyer and Saban have been in their respective jobs for longer periods than Harbaugh. Those programs are full developed. UM's is not. How you do not understand boggles my mind.

UM is not getting "crushed" in recruiting. UM is going to have another top 5-7 class. Classes in the top ten are ones that get programs to elite statys. Yes, Bama and OSU have great classes. But that does not mean UM's is going to be outclassed.

UM's OL class is really good. Not sure what your beef is there.

The lack of fiath and perspective of some fans on here is really disappointing.

It's a comparison to where Saban and Urban had their programs in year 2 (see post above). There's a huge gap between 2 and 3 this year in recruiting, and over the last 2 seasons there's a big gap between OSU and M. Like I said above, a few bounces go differently and we're talking about 12-1 and taking off, but it didn't happen. We finished 3rd again in our division, it's not being a bad fan to recognize that.

OSU has 7 five stars and is number 2  with 18 players. It's one of the largest gaps in average player ranking in a long time, almost 3 points higher than number 3. Nearly 5 points higher than us. It's ok for fans to not view everything through maize and blue goggles. No one is saying the world is ending or the program is doomed.

*EDIT

OSU is about to land the most 5 stars ever, at least based on a cursory look over the composite rankings. There is no way to spin that we aren't being outrecruited by them.

Yes, Ohio State is out-recruiting Michigan. Guess what? They are out-recruiting everyone this year.

Michigan still has a top-5 class and if that continues, with a coach like Harbaugh, you'll remain a top-10 team.

cp4three2

January 8th, 2017 at 4:08 PM ^

Yes, exactly. A top 10 team. Thats great and what we historically have been for the last 60 years (having won 1 national title). That's also the frustration and disappointment being expressed because the hope is higher than that. Michigan does a lot of talking about being the best while not winning championships. The thing I take exception to is "you're not a real fan" if you point that out. Harbaugh can hopefully change that, but the mountain to climb seems to be growing, which is why some on here are disappointed in losing another non-southern 5 star to a southern team.

You're hitting concern troll status here.

What we know: Harbaugh cleans up after RichRod/Hoke/Brandon debacle. In year 1 wins ten games. In year 2 wins ten games again. Senior laden defense, sure, but Hoke recruits. Michigan has done nothing but ascend under Harbaugh rand recruiting is better than Hoke.

While tOSU is recruiting exceptionally the games are played on the field and should I really worry about Tate Martell 5 star vs. Dylan McCaffery 4 star? Is your inference that the Rivals rating makes Martell so much better? Similarly, Ambry Thomas 4 star vs. Jeffrey Okudah 5 star. Explain to me the difference, practically. I'm comfortable giving Harbaugh and staff the time to put their process in place with their players. Recruting is fine.

Gonna take time. Relax though, Michigan will win plenty.

As I've said, I'm not overly concerned. Harbaugh is the best coach we can possibly have. However, per your take that there is no difference between 4 and 5 stars, as has been discussed over and over, there definitely is a higher chance they will be impact players. The guy who recognizes this is Harbaugh, luckily for us, which is why he's going after them the way he is.

ESPN 300/247 Composite Top 300 Rankings: OSU 16/17 verbal pledges Michigan 17/16 verbal pledges When looking at the top 300 recruits in the country, looks like Michigan and OSU are dead even according to two recruiting resources. Yes, OSU has more in the top 25, 50, 100, but recruiting is about filling holes and getting the best player for your system. I would rather have the #125 player which fits my system than the #50 player which doesn't.

Penn State winning the B1G this year was overachieving. UM losing in the Orange Bowl to FSU is underachieving

Im not alarmed. I just want to see Michigan actually contend. Sick of seeing slappies like you pretend like we are the best when we havent won shit in a long time

SalvatoreQuattro

January 8th, 2017 at 3:07 PM ^

FSU has as much talent as any team in the country. Meanwhile UM still has a roster loaded with Hoke players. UM also happened to be missing it's most dynamic player.

In no way was losing to FSU "underachieving'.

Teams and programs are not rebuilt overnight. Especially when said program has nearly a decade of internal rot.

Your expectations are unrealistic and ignore the run-down state the program was in when Harbaugh took over.

cp4three2

January 8th, 2017 at 3:14 PM ^

It's more of a disappointment that Harbaugh isn't Saban (twice), Urban (three times), or Carroll who had big time 2nd seasons after taking over big programs that had been struggling. A lot of what happened this year was bad luck, but it still happened. It doesn't make you a bad fan to recognize that, especially when you see our main rival recruiting like it's a video game. Hopefully Harbaugh's year 3 is like Saban's and Carroll's.

He lost 8 games his first two years. Harbaugh 6.

Meyer inherited a roster laden with Tressell talent. He had enough to win a lot of games early. Harbaugh had/has some talent, but not in key areas like OL and QB.

It makes you a bad fan to ignore the obvious deficiencies in the roster whilst ranting and raving over Harbaugh's perceived failures.  It makes you a bad fan to be so inpatient with a guy who so very clearly is one of the best in the business.

R-E--L-A-X. Both of you.

cp4three2

January 8th, 2017 at 3:27 PM ^

and going 6-6 shows what state the program was in when he took over. There's no reason to panic because Harbaugh is a top 5 coach. We can't get a better coach. My only point to you is that it's fair to be disappointed and slightly concerned. There's no point in panicking. We're being outrecruited, and it's OK to recognize that, but our one strength is going to be QB, and that's often the great equalizer.
