01/02/2019 - 10:12am Nothing has changed about…

Nothing has changed about the bowls. It's such nonsense that a playoff has made the bowls less meaningful. They were always meaningless. They've always been meaningless, outside of a handful of top bowls. The Corporate Entity Gator Bowl has always been meaningless, outside of it being just another game.

Fixing the playoff is easy: add 6 with a rule that at least one top 10 non-power must be in the field and a top 6 Power Five champ cannot be jumped by a non-champ. This year would have seen OSU going to Norman and UCF going to ND. It would have been great.

1 and 2 get byes, 3 and 4 get home games on campus. The losers play a consolation bowl game.

01/01/2019 - 8:08pm It’s not a secret. Tressel…

It’s not a secret. Tressel announced on the basketball floor that he was going to ramp up the rivalry and Michigan didn’t respond. He locked up Ohio recruiting. They’re playing modern football, we’re still talking about Bo.

12/30/2018 - 8:50pm Urban has won the natty and…

Urban has won the natty and had an undefeated season in his first four seasons. Ffs, he’s 82-9.

12/30/2018 - 8:45pm His first four seasons are…

His first four seasons are worse than Carr, Mo, and Bo in any way you slice it, from titles to winning percentage. He was supposed to bring us back to that level. He hasn’t. It’s not irrational, especially after the hype he’s created. We aren’t competitive against good teams. He needs to make a Beilein-style adjustment after being self reflective and it’s hard to see him doing it. At this point he is what he is.

12/30/2018 - 6:54pm Oklahoma is a great…

Oklahoma is a great comparison to UM. Little state talent in comparison to its rival in Texas. It’s why the first call Michigan should make if Harbaugh leaves is Bob Stoops.

12/29/2018 - 4:17pm Bob Stoops has actually won…

Bob Stoops has actually won a championship, both conference and national, and the team he built has been in the playoffs two years straight.

12/27/2018 - 12:21pm You thought the Gator Bowl…

You thought the Gator Bowl was an accomplishment that meant something? The one where we went 8-4, 9-3, or 7-5?

The only bowl games that have ever matter were the ones where you went because you were a champion or the ones where you played to become a champion.

Want players to not risk millions of dollars by playing in an exhibition game? Great: support paying them, or at least support the school shelling out $ to insure them at a reasonable potential loss from injury.

12/25/2018 - 9:25pm If she’s sure about…

If she’s sure about engineering, then do M and put the savings in an account that she can use to either live on or as a down payment for a future house (or grad school). If she’s not sure, I’d pick Princeton. The education is mostly the same in undergrad (though fellow students as a whole will be much smarter at Princeton). You can’t get the connections at Michigan that you can at Princeton, and if non-engineering, that will make up the difference in money.

From someone who went to M undergrad and a school, though non-ivy, school for grad.

12/12/2018 - 11:04am I like Don Brown, I think he…

I like Don Brown, I think he's a great coach, but he's not irreplaceable. His defense has hardly been dominant against good teams. We'll be fine if he leaves. There are plenty of guys that can hold bad teams under 10 points with All Americans all over the field.

12/09/2018 - 10:15pm Our record over the past 4…

Our record over the past 4 years isn’t much different from Georgia.

12/09/2018 - 10:13pm We have had 3 10-win seasons…

We have had 3 10-win seasons and missed the playoff only because we’re the only school that has to play two top 5 to 10 programs as rivals. We’re the only team to have been consistently in the top 8 over the past four years to not make the playoffs.

This is the leap, next level is being Clemson or Bama but that would take a different kind of recruitment style.

12/01/2018 - 10:52am A 20th Century John Adams…

A 20th Century John Adams. Really remarkable life.

11/29/2018 - 8:31pm This shouldn't surprise…

This shouldn't surprise anyone. I know of a player getting a dufflebag of cash left on his porch while in school. The school, all the legal stuff we have, that's a part, but we're not landing top guys without doing the same stuff everyone else does. One of the reasons for the panic about the Fab Five was the fear that it'd open the door to investigating football.

My understanding is that most guys get paid afterwards, especially if they were highly touted and didn't make the League. It's not like former players were playing football in China for tons of cash.

If Michigan wasn't paying players, you'd have Michigan donors paying private detectives to track OSU recruiting, etc.

Beilien, on the other hand, from everyone I've talked to at M and in pro agent land, is clean, which is remarkable.

11/29/2018 - 11:21am This is correct, and all you…

This is correct, and all you have to do is look at how OSU looks against Michigan versus how they look against everyone else. They're willing to give up some time to beating Wisconsin or MSU by 3 tds instead of 5 so that they can focus on Michigan. OSU looks strong at the beginning of the season because they prep for their non conference. Then they look decent as they go through the Big Ten, then they look strong again because they're playing the team they prep all year for.

11/29/2018 - 11:17am OSU doesn't spend its entire…

OSU doesn't spend its entire season focusing on beating Alabama. That's the difference.

11/27/2018 - 9:09am That horse left the barn…

That horse left the barn when MSU joined the Big Ten while Cincy doesn't even get to play OSU.

11/26/2018 - 12:00pm This is going to keep…

This is going to keep happening until we treat OSU the same way that they treat us, as mortal enemies we should be obsessed with beating, as the team that you get a little trinket for in beating them, etc.

Tressel reignited the 10-year-war, but Michigan hasn't been fighting it.

11/25/2018 - 7:17pm I’m not sure we can say we…

I’m not sure we can say we had the better roster. Outside of tight end, it’s hard to argue they weren’t better at every offensive position.

If we want to start beating OSU, we need to recruit like they do. Luckily, it’s looking like we finally are.

11/25/2018 - 9:15am Ohio State hates Michigan…

Ohio State hates Michigan more than Michigan hates OSU. They’ve made this game bigger for them than us. Their players get special medals for beating Michigan. It’s harder to play there for us than A2 is for them. Tressell changed the culture there and Michigan hasn’t responded.

11/14/2018 - 10:15am I really wish we'd do what…

I really wish we'd do what USC-UCLA does, and both wear home jerseys.

08/15/2018 - 9:41am If you're bothered by 28…

If you're bothered by 28-year-olds in decision-making positions, I hope you never visit Capitol Hill.

08/06/2018 - 11:08am I'm partial to the opening…

I'm partial to the opening chord from AC\DC's Shook Me All Night Long.

08/03/2018 - 3:59pm He didn't underachieve at OU…

He didn't underachieve at OU. He had a top 10 team 11 times, 14 double-digit-win seasons, a national championship, and won his conference 11 times. The team he built went to the playoffs last year. Outside of Saban, he is about as close to Urban as they could get.

08/02/2018 - 9:07am They're just going to hire…

They're just going to hire Bob Stoops and maybe take a half-step back. Losing Urban isn't a magic bullet for us.

06/13/2018 - 12:07pm You 100% can be a biologist…

You 100% can be a biologist with a humanities degree if you can get into grad school, which will rely more on MCAT, other application materials, etc. In fact, a lot of places would prefer someone with a humanities degree because they often look to solve problems differently and add new perspectives from the herd.

This is doubly true for places like consulting firms.

05/17/2018 - 10:08am Bo is the 4th best coach we've had

After Yost, Crisler, and Carr (Moe would have been better too). Bo benefits greatly from being the first successful Michigan coach to be on TV all the time and beat up on a mediocre conference.

05/14/2018 - 12:04pm President Schlissel has been very active in this regard

He's been working on an entre public engagement program to help profs connect with the larger community.

04/03/2018 - 11:56am Don't we need either Matthews or Mo to leave

So we don't go over on scholarships?

03/25/2018 - 12:38pm FFS. there's no personal cost

It's a tweet. Harbaugh does not sit on Twitter all day measuring himself by the retweets and likes he gets. He's supporting his school and a fellow coach. He'll do the same if hockey wins today.

03/07/2018 - 3:06pm After years of working in DC

I'm hoping that the market for government relations in Michigan opens up a little bit.

02/21/2018 - 11:51am The 1992 banner should never have been taken down

The team won the regional with eligible players and the violation occurred in between the Elite 8 and the Final Four. It was taken down by the "Old Blues" because of dislike for the Fab Five. Their first banner should be raised.

02/13/2018 - 9:27am "ex" is the important word there

M acted exactly the way it should.

02/07/2018 - 8:07pm Friend is a teacher of his

And disagrees. He’s really raw and probably wouldn’t have seen the field.

02/07/2018 - 4:00pm We did not win the national title

However, we should rehang the first Fab Five banner since it (by winning region) was won legitmately with all eligible players.

02/07/2018 - 11:00am This is the first time I worry Harbaugh is flaming out

Losing assistant coaches we want, this years recruiting is pretty much a disaster. For some reason we can't recruit offensive linemen.

02/02/2018 - 11:03am The most dangerous sport is soccer

and the panic when someone starts doing CTE studies of soccer players is going to be hilarious.

Playing high-level competitive sports is tough on your body.

02/02/2018 - 11:00am Playing football for a long time is hard on your body

News at 11.

01/30/2018 - 8:41am Money is fungible

That is all.

01/23/2018 - 11:29am I'd much rather that Notre Dame have Brian Kelly than Bob Stoops

Who'd almost certainly be their coach if Kelly leaves.

01/09/2018 - 9:11am Alabama was Alabama

and UGA had the team we had last year with some better luck (like not playing Alabama in the regular season).

01/09/2018 - 9:06am Smart took over a team with back to back 10 win seasons

and a team that went 10-4, 12-2, 8-5, 10-3, 10-3 over the last 5 seasons. Georgia did not go from decent to great.

01/09/2018 - 9:05am Smart took over a team with back to back 10 win seasons

and a team that went 10-4, 12-2, 8-5, 10-3, 10-3 over the last 5 seasons. Georgia did not go from decent to great.

01/04/2018 - 1:25pm Yes, a 5 star sophomore QB with a year experience

is top flight and worlds ahead of Iowa 5th year senior transfer and a three star recruited by Borges.

01/04/2018 - 12:21pm None of these are made up or hopeful excuses

It's just a fact of reality. We've had injuries. We've had two losses to MSU where we dominated them and lost on weird bounces. Those are as frustrating as can be, especially this year when we should have just run the ball, but it's also being unlucky and it's silly to garment-rend over it. We're obviously not Iowa, We'd probably have a 8-10 win gap over the last 3 or 4 seasons if the schedules were reversed, including switching road and home games between the two teams.

The reason we are where we are is because we didn't recruit quarterbacks under Hoke. The contrast between OSU and UM in that regard is a great comparison. Urban Meyer had 2 top flight QBs in the system ready to go when he started, that allowed him to have stability at QB for 6 years. He's had 0 injuries to his Oline before this year.

Michigan has ~7 seniors who see the field. Harbaugh hasn't risen above the deficiencies the way we hoped (he's only coached us to two 10-win seasons, of the three in the last decade). No one is content with this. And, like Beilein, it's pretty apparent that he's going to fire loyal assistants who've underperformed.

Which coach could we hire that would be better than Harbaugh? Urban isn't going anywhere, neither is Saban or Petersen or Dabo.

Everyone knew this was going to be an 8 or 9 win season because of youth and weakness at QB. Despite that, we probably should have won 10 games this year. It's like panicking about a hurricane you knew was coming. The only way out is through. Go Blue.

01/04/2018 - 12:55am Good Lord. Get a grip, man.

The strength of schedule between the two teams isn't even close. If Michigan were in the West, they'd easily have been to the Big Ten Title game, almost every year. Iowa's big non-conference game is Iowa State, not Notre Dame, Alabama, etc. Iowa has only played OSU, the best program besides Alabama, 3 or 4 times since we expanded the conference.

Here is the perspective: We made a bad hire in Brady Hoke because we had a bad AD who passed/missed on the best coach. This has happened to every program besides OSU.

We now have one of the best football coaches in the country, who despite saying he doesn't want to coach in the NFL, has NFL writers etc saying he'd be the number one pick from teams with openings. We came off back to back 10-win seasons and missed the college playoff by 6 inches last year. This year we had one of the youngest teams in the NCAA because Brady Hoke didn't recruit QBs and O-line well, which meant that when we had to play our 3rd stringer we weren't that good on offense. Despite that, we had a weird monsoon loss to MSU, played Wisconsin and OSU tough, and then laid an egg in the bowl when the OC who's about to likely get fired did a poor job executing and we had a bad fumble (that we actually recovered) that swung the game. Did I mention that we didn't have 2/5 of our offensive line, our starting QB, and our most explosive wide receiver?

Jim Harbaugh is the best coach we can have. There is no coach that we could get who is better. We're returning almost every starter next year and have three 4 or 5 star QBs competing for the starting role. We also get out best wide receiver back, and, God willing, our best tackle who had a flukey injury that took him out for one and a half seasons.

01/03/2018 - 12:52pm F*%k Arby's

Go Blue

01/02/2018 - 11:00am Right way to think of it

My s cons team is Washington, and this season reminded me of Washington’s 2015 season where they went 7-6. While there was a lot of disappointment and consternation, Petersen was, and is, the absolute best coach Washington can have. The next year they made the playoffs because they finally had what Petersen calls OKGs, our kind of guys.

Michigan is in the same boat now. Harbaugh is the best coach we could ever hire. He’ll either win or he won’t. There’s no use in having panic attacks over it. The AD did what he needed to do and now the best coach available needs to get the job done. Harbaugh is facing the same choice Beilein did early on: fix the assistants or not win. It sounds like Harbaugh sees the problem, like B did.

01/02/2018 - 9:57am UGA-Alabama will have higher ratings than Clemson or Oklahoma

You think people in New York or California care about the difference between UGA, Clemson, or Oklahoma? If this was a rematch, maybe, but it's not.

01/02/2018 - 9:54am Give me a break

Georgia and Bama have been the best two teams all season. Both scheduled (usually in the case of FSU) tough non conference games. A quirk of scheduling allowed it to happen.

Just because Mississippi State fans think they're good because they're in the same conference as Bama doesn't mean the game won't be phenomenal.

12/14/2017 - 1:53pm The FCC was created by Congress in the 1930s

The radio or television isn't the internet. If these doom scenarios happen because we went back to 2015 regulation of the Internet, Congress will act. Stirring panic helps politicians fundraise and virtue signal. Few people who are actually on The Hill are panicked by this because it's not that big of a deal and no one wants Trump to control the internet.
