Sources: There have been preliminary discussions about moving the Michigan-Florida season opener at AT&T Stadium to Sunday, Sept. 3. Both schools still must sign off on the date change. The game is currently set for Saturday, Sept. 2.

Not if it's in primetime.

8p will assuredly be Bama/FSU in the new Falcons Stadium.

They're probably weighing us being the 3:30 game (when the game isn't in the EST) vs. being 1 of 2 or 3 games on Sunday and the only thing on Sunday at 8p.

Then they'll have a Monday 8p game like they've had for awhile now.

TV is driving all of this, it's especially what happens when you whore yourself out to these neutral site games. TV OWNS them. Just like TV creates all of the awesome non-conference basketball classics at the beginning of the year. They know UNC/Kentucky or Duke/UCLA or Indiana/Louisville is going to draw eyeballs.

If TV is driving it, we will be the bigger draw because it brings in viewers from more regions of the country and some of that being west coast would make it more attractive at 8. I know this business well and while the matchup would be better from a football standpoint with Bama/FSU, the TV ratings will be higher for a Michigan/Florida game as long as both are Top 10 or 15.

That being said, they will not be on the same night so it probably doesn't matter anyway. Just get here again already.

On a holiday weekend. If you want it on a Sunday then great. If you want it on a Saturday, then cross Sunday off the calendar and write Saturday. There, it's a Saturday (actually Sunday).

He simply doesn't get that Athletics is changing...you can have the world's greatest AD...he/she's not going to keep things the same. It's a different world.

Look at the names for the Texas job, those are some of the best ADs in the country. Each one of them is coming from a school that is pushing the envelope (and then there's Andrew Luck's daddy who used to work at WVU and now is the #2 with the NCAA).

so as long as it is a neutral site game it may as well get the most exposure for Michigan.  I wouldn't be surprised if the coach is on-board with this move also....

Now I WILL be miffed if Warde starts scheduling other neutral site games going forward.  A LSU-UW "Home and Home" thing might be OK but I don't see how Ford Field would make any sense when you could just play at M staduim.

I mean, other than having to wait a whole extra day for Michigan football (it's the 1st game back ok, it's a long offseason), I don't necessarily have an issue with it.  I mean NFL season hasn't started yet and Monday is a holiday.  But why?

Sucks if it happens. Who wants to stay in Dallas any longer than 1 day? I was flown in Friday for steak, Saturday for football and home

because of same, can't stay up past halftime unless i want to be a zombie the next day, can't really drink any beers unless zombie^2 is desired.

That's the game I'd really like to see played on Saturday night.

The opening weekend of CFB is probably going to eventually be a solid week of games, after all every true fan is starved beyond belief to see the ovaloid pigskin booted around again.

So, there's nothing suggesting that Warde Manuel is pushing for this or asking for this or thinks it's a decent idea.

How about you temper your irrational WM hate, WD?

I can handle a Sunday game, its the home game on Labor Day weekend that I can't stand. The sacred right of a Michiganders last weekend Up North should always be protected.

It just doesn't feel right to me, I think college football is best on Saturday. But I'm very resistant to change, especially when it comes to traditions like football Saturday. I get the argument about there being no NFL games that day, but we already get a lot of spotlight, and will be guaranteed spotlight next year (game vs. FL, after how our season ended in '16).

I vote no change. If I had a vote, or if there was a vote. Or if anyone cared.

Why would anyone complain about this? Labor Day is the next day. We all have the day off. NFL opening kick isn't until the following week.

It's a prime time matchup on a night where we are the ONLY game on in America. Take it, Warde. Take it and don't look back.

Love it.

I'm normally a "get off my lawn" type, but this is fun. Unprecedented, and all eyes on that game with no others going on at the same time, on a holiday weekend after a long time without football.

As a one-off thing, huge PR win.

did HUGE ratings on ABC.  There were only two regular season games that out-drew it: Michigan/Ohio State, and the SEC Championship Game.

Given that there are quite a few high-profile games scheduled for Labor Day weekend (tough to fit them all on Saturday), and given last year's TV ratings, the move to Sunday does make sense (from ABC/ESPN's POV).

I have no problem with this as a one off thing or once in a blue moon. Being the only game makes it appealing as more exposure instead of competing against other matchups. Negged your post for the Warde comment. This wouldn't be near the Noodle and I really think he's getting a bad rap early on in his tenure.

I'm bias, but this would be great. A group of like 15 friends are heading down to Maryland vs Texas game that weekend and if Michigan game was moved to Sunday....I could fly down with them and make it a double header weekend of football. As of now it's just 4 of us going to Dallas....group of 20 sounds like a lot more fun!!!!!
