Hail Harbo

Another former lineman, albeit from the DL, who grad transfered to Western (Richard Ash) is now a Dallas Cowboy and on the fast track to the Super Bowl.

Best of luck to him, I have a feeling he wasn't going to see the field much next year as he barely saw it while he was here even with the OL issues. He had a compelling story and will graduate and I am sure he will be a person that will do credit to the program and the University. Hope he finds an awesome landing spot.

So hard to project OL production based on recruiting. I thought Dawson had a lot of potential for playing time here.

Yup, he's got a coaching staff full of NFL coaches and a head coach who made a name for himself developing a nasty O-Line at Stanford. But because the o-line unit he wasn't good enough to crack had a bad game he probably thinks he's better off at a MAC school or something.

Wait a second, on what game data do you base that statement, because unless I have missed something, Dawson hasn't seen the field much at all, and disparaging a staff laden with NFL experience that has already shown in can develop players and maximize the talent that it has just seems.....not smart, if you don't mind me mentioning it.

Redshirts are usually great. They give the coaching staff the option of keeping a kid or wishing him depending on who he figures into future plans. You get a 22 year old 5th year performance instead of an 18 year old 1st year performance. And pretty much everyone who redshirts isn't going to play anyway so it's not like you sit a guy who was going to be a difference maker. Clearly based on this year's redshirt bonfire, if you can contribute, you're gonna play.

This is the Harbaugh way. Contribute or you can be replaced. No point keeping him for a 5th year if he doesn't have a chance to play. This could mean good things about Runyan.

I said when he was recruited that I didn't think he had great talent, and he wasn't particularly nasty as a blocker. When he got on the field at Michigan, he looked overmatched. I don't think he would help us next year, and I already think some of the young guys like Runyan and Ulizio look more promising.

Hopefully he finds success elsewhere. He's had a rough life.

but with OL it's hard to project.  We all though Kalis was the  second coming of Jake Long.  Not trying to be a dick, just saying you probably whiff on a lot of your projections too...just like Scout, Rivals, 247, etc.  Hell, coaches whiff all the time too, and their careers are based on getting this stuff right.

There are, of course, the theories that Michigan doesn't play dirty like some other schools. I don't know if I buy into that or not.

The one thing that stands out to me is that Harbaugh stresses competition. A lot of these guys want to be promised early playing time. They don't want to spend a couple years losing weight, adding weight, working out, learning the playbook, and standing on the sideline. Harbaugh tells them all they'll have to compete, and that rubs some guys the wrong way. For Cesar Ruiz he probably sees a chance to play immediately (if Cole moves back to LT) or at least by 2018 (after Cole graduates). At the other positions, you're trying to elbow your way to the front of the line with a gaggle of guards and tackles.

this doesn't seem to be keeping Bama from landing a full O-line of 4 and 5 stars every year. OSU also seems to have no issues.

For that reason, I do think certain programs have a bit more to "offer" than UM.  Auburn, Clemson, Bama, OSU, Ole Miss - I've seen a lot of smoke over the years to assume it's not all above board.

I saw him play in some of the blow outs and I remember him playing well. I think there was a play where it was a delayed screen and he knocked his guy to the ground with the force of his right arm and hustled down field for a good gain. He definitely seems to play with an intensity.
