What Team(s) do you want Michigan to play in a bowl? What teams do you want to avoid?
In the purely hypothetical realm where Michigan does not make the playoffs what team or teams would you like to see them match up against in a bowl? Why do you want to play them?
On the flip side, what teams do you, at this time, do you just not really want a piece of?
Ignore bowl tie ins and what not, use your judgement on the likely teams in the playoff.
For the exercise I am going to use the current CFP rankings as who will play in the playoff.
I feel like I'm not shooting high enough when thinking of teams to beat. I was liking the idea of creaming Florida again, but at this time they don't even seem like a worthy opponent. All the talking heads are giving USC the hot hand at the moment. I think they have to be my pick for who I would like to see Michigan play. This defense loves to feast on freshman QBs. Why not go after the current golden boy?
As for a team I don't want to play my mind keeps going to Wisconsin. Super unlikely matchup anyway, but for some reason I just don't like it. I know they have a questionable quarterback situation right now but I just don't want it. It's hard for me, outside of the top 4 the rest of the top 25 don't really put any fear into my heart. I guess we have come a long way.
What do you guys and girls have?

Yep, I want to be ranked 4th at the end, then beat Alabama, and go on to a return engagment on a neutral field with OSU for the National Title!
I don't want to play WMU. If the Broncos lose, would rather it be to someone else.
November 30th, 2016 at 4:45 AM ^
Alabama defense is highly destructive. I want no part of our O Line going against them.
USC would also be a real test.
OSU on a neutral field with honest refs would be ideal.

If we can play Alabama, bring it on. Why should we shy away from anybody? We have a really good team. You have to find out what your made of.

do you want to avoid osu?

Alabama.
November 29th, 2016 at 9:57 PM ^
I think they're a little overrated this year and aren't nearly as unbeatable as they've been in recent years. Chattanooga hung around with them for a healthy part of the game a few weeks back. We could beat them in a low scoring affair I think

Neutral Field
Neutral Refs
They will take the mother of all ass-kickings and it will be glorious.

Totally agree. I know conventional wisdom says you can't have two teams from the same conference in the playoffs, but last weekend's game was one of the most watched college football games in history. After all of the controversy, imagine the ratings for an OSU vs. Michigan rematch. Glorious!

All it will take is a Colorado win in the Pac12 championship.
November 30th, 2016 at 12:47 AM ^
Two teams from the same conference made it to the top 2 in the BCS. The mandate is that the committee picks the best four teams, regardless of conference. It's inevitable that two teams from the same conference will and should be amongst the top four in the country sooner than later. This is the year.

November 29th, 2016 at 9:33 PM ^
I'd almost prefer to see OSU get destroyed by Clemson while MIchigan beats Alabama. I just want them exposed as not a great team. I'm terrified of the Michigan OL getting destroyed by the Alabama DL however, the way the line improved during bowl prep last year gives me hope.

OSU would be the MILF. She'd be in the background or off to the side more. Bama would be the hotter, harder working, ugh, actress.

Outside the CFP obviously, FSU or USC which actually both look highly probable.
I'd actually be very upset if we some how got stuck with Florida again. Played them last year and open next season against them. The only slim way that happens though is if they pull off a miracle against Bama this weekend.

Of course I want the Playoffs, but assuming it is the Orange Bowl...
I would much prefer FSU to L'ville. I get the point on the schadenfreude of smashing Petrino, but that game has such little upside for us.
If Jackson runs wild and posterizes our LBs, that would be a miserable way to lose. (Let's not pretend that that couldn't happen -- he did that to FSU, and he basically did that to Clemson on the road, had his WR not misunderstood the downs marker at the end of the game.)
If we smoke them, there is a collective "who cares?" reaction from the rest of the country. They did just lose to Kentucky, after all.
FSU, or even Oklahoma, would be perceived as a premium match up, and a fittingly noteworthy one at the end of a Top 5-caliber season.

OL against Alabama's DL, or just sending off our seniors with a nice Orange or Rose Bowl win. I guess making the CFP is more "prestigious," and I believe our D could at least keep us in the game, even moreso than LSU or Auburn.
Came late to the party in the previous two threads so I'll post this tought here...
Why would the CFP committee even give a fuck about conference championship games? Those aren't even any of their concern. The BCS and CFP Committee are independent of the NCAA and simply have "agreements" with the conferences. The Rose likes to take the B1G champ if it's available. The Sugar takes the top SEC and Big 12 teams. Etc., etc.
But the CFP committee's job is to match up the TOP FOUR TEAMS. If there were four 18-team conferences that might be different, you could view those CCG's as quarterfinals. But the committee is only concerned with picking a final four, just like the NCAA basketball committee and their seeding. If after those games they still feel like a couple of the winners weren't final-four material, they are under NO obligation to take them out of some agreement with the conferences. If Oklahoma hadn't lost to Houston and played OSU closer they'd be in over Washington regardless of whether they beat CU or not.
Washington just better win. We're comin' after your spot.
November 29th, 2016 at 9:38 PM ^
My hope for the OL is the way they seemed to improve last year during bowl prep. Obviously Florida wasn't up for the game, but it seems Michigan really put in the work during bowl prep and it paid off.
November 30th, 2016 at 2:02 PM ^
Correct. Exhibit A: the consensus top two teams in the B1G are not even in the conference championship.
