Field Goal Franklin whining about satellite camps

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Found the clown that was roaming the PSU campus the other day!

“I was like, the poster boy for satellite camps (two years ago). I don’t know why, but I was,” he said. “Somebody else has become the poster boy for satellite camps now. That’s fine with me. And it’s gotten out of control, like a lot of things in life and a lot of things in our profession. It’s gotten into extremes again, and I don’t think that’s what anybody wants.”

“I don’t think it should be with third parties, recruiting services or things like that,” he said. “I think it should be on college campuses with college staffs. If you want to go somewhere else and do it, great. But it should be run by colleges. I think we’re asking for trouble with those things.”

Although Harbaugh's time in Stanford made him a well-known commodity in the college ranks, I don't think he solidified himself in the south where, let's be honest, a lot of great recruits play ball. His Summer Swarm tour really ignited the Michigan name and the brand of football unique to JH. I don't think he will have to try as hard in the future as he and Michigan have re-established themselves as top-tier amongst the elite. Like I said, the damage has been done.

I' m not worried.  Harbaugh got Michigan in the headlines repeatedly with these camps the past two summers, and these headlines alone helped boost recruiting.  Now, the high rankings will draw the recruits, with or without sarellite camps.

- Two years ago I was the poster boy for satellite camps.

- A year ago I was the poster boy for getting my QB killed by opposing defenses.

- This year I'm going to be the poster boy for whining about satellite camps and making excuses why my team still sucks.

The NCAA wasn't satisfied just regulating the lives of the students. Now they want to regulate the coaches' lives as well. Power hungry bastards. Next they'll be trying to tell us fans what we can and can't do in the offseason. Well screw you, NCAA. I'm a grown man. Nobody is telling me when I can and cannot wear pants.

So he's a satellite-camp hipster.  "I was into satellite camps when they were just this offbeat thing, but now that they've gotten big, it's not the same vibe, man."

My interpretation of "above board" : We need to take the real recruiting out of the hands of the coaches and put it back where it belongs, which is with the bagmen.

The graveyard shift on MGoBlog - that wonderful mod-less 7-8 hours - can get interesting certainly. I know, because when I turn on the lights to open up the place in the morning, the booze and cigarette cases have been thoroughly raided and someone has written salacious - but funny - stuff about the staff all over the walls.
