Yeah, that was why the Tigers traded Garcia so suddenly, despite hyping/promoting him up as Mini-Miggy for all of 2012/2013
Nobody has ever admitted anything, but this website has a good run down of what happened. LINK
Torii Hunter also basically confirmed it as well
Credit to Miggy for stepping up in that situation with Garcia. It was always strange that they traded him so quickly, though getting Iglesias out of it was a nice rebound. If true, this explains a lot.
It seems like Miggy gets hurt when someone says 'Hello' to him...
While there's no doubt Miggy plays banged up a lot (like 80% of players), you may want to look at his GPs and PAs per year here: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/cabremi01.shtml
Bascially, your comment is bad, and you should feel bad.
Wow and I thought Delonte West banging Lebron's mom was bad.
That's not bad... it's awesome. Anytime Bron Bron runs his prima donna mouth, someone can reply with West banged your mom. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha baw wah ha ha ha ha ha
I'm really glad Garcia has not become a good player. Hope he never does.
What he did to Prince was beyond low.
And he was doing pretty well in Texas until the neck injuries (.305/23 HRs/98 RBIs in 2015). It appears he moved on and we should do the same.
I really don't think we should be discussing Fielder and Garcia's drama until we beat OSU and MSU.
A major disapppoinment is how he's decribed by the Ranger faithful. You can never know about such things, but considering it was a straight up trade, Kinsler for Fielder and cash, Detroit made out like bandits.
for Dombrowski. After Prince's lame slide into 3rd, then 'meh' attitude after sealed his fate with me. I am a huge Ian Kinsler fan. I love the way he plays the game.
Prince was entertaining (I loved it when he ate the nachos in the ALCS iirc?), and I, like others have expressed, wished him the best in Arlington.
Also -- first I'd heard of the Avisail Garcia drama. I was a bit surprised when we let him go -- but now I know the 'rest of the story.'
under the impression that his retirement began at the start of the 2013 season. Huh.
He has a guaranteed contract through 2020 that pays him $24/year. He had neck surgery a couple weeks ago, so regardless of $$$, it's good he's retiring. Dude has a violent swing.
I don't know if he still has issues with his wife, but I know he loves his kids. I want him to be able to spend the rest of his 30s and beyond doing all the things he'd like with his family.
So by retiring does he forfiet the remaing portion of his contract? I'm no math major but my guess is 24MM/year x 4 years is a sum of money usually referred to as a "shit-ton" of money.

He might have a pretty good argument that he simply got injured is due his entire salary for the duration of the contract.
...he's not retiring. He's "medically disabled" and doctors won't clear him to play.
If that's the case Insurance will pick up the tab.
If the Rangers have it, which is apparently unclear.
I believe the designation is medically unable to play. He will keep getting them checks but the club can likely file a claim with their insurance to cover a portion if not all of his remaining salary
Bobby Higgenson would have played that contract out in a wheelchair.
hitting in front of that soup sandwich Juan Gonzalez.
By the way, I ran into Bobby Higginson in P.F. Changs over on Big Beaver in 2002, and he seemed like a really nice guy.

Signing a deferred compensation contract is different than a straight up retirement.
to the deferred compensation, in baseball I believe if a team lets a player go (not the player retiring) they still owe the player the balance of the contract. It's why you hear about all these awful long term contracts teams give to players in their late 20's/early 30's. Towards the end of the contract the player is usually not producing at a rate to justify his salary, but the team is stuck. Unless they can trade the player, they have to pay the player whether he's on the roster or not.
It's different in football - if a player is cut, the team isn't on the hook for his salary. The only thing the NFL team would owe the player is if there is any guaranteed money which still needs to be paid. it's why NFL players fight so hard for the guaranteed money.
Don't think Texas has to pay him anything if he retires
...I believe Texas is on the hook for it. I'm not completely sure though. This Ken Rosenthal tweet makes me believe Texas will have to pay up.
#Rangers’ Fielder underwent his second neck surgery on July 29. He is guaranteed $24M annually through 2020. Not known if TEX has insurance.
Fox Sports is reporting that Prince will not be medically cleared to play and is medically disabled.

Or is that not how it works? Just odd to me that they'd have to reserve a spot (even though I realize the 40 man isn't set until after spring) for a guy you know can't play

Never forget.
Came here to post this. +1 to you.
But he kind of got the ole' trip on that. He didn't just turn and jump and fall on his gut.
It was never going to be the same between him and Tigers fans after that. I do hope he gets healthy because a lifelong injury is not a fun way to live
Once he said he didn't even care about the Tigers losing in the playoffs, I was so glad Dombrowski was able to ship his butt out of Detroit. I still can't beleive he managed to do it. Probably the most amazing deal he pulled off in his time here.
It was a great deal. I liked the idea of having him on the team initially, but you just knew he wouldn't age well. He's built sloppily and has that violent swing. Then I read something in ESPN the Magazine that charted all of his homeruns in Milwaukee and compared them to Comerica and he would've only been a 20 hr a year player for Detroit. Throw in the fact that he was a mediocre defensive player and the Tigers had the DH position locked up for the future with Victor and Miggy. It was one of Dombrowski's swing and misses. Soooo glad he was able to get Kinsler out of him.
