OT - Agent Cuts Ties with Johnny Manziel

I think this is the agent trying to do what is genuinely best for Johnny. His father and agent taking such a public stance on Manziel today, to me, is their way of giving him a bottom line. Sometimes you need those closest to you to put their feet down to actually get the message.

but that's what people who don't have the ability to do that tell themselves. Rich kids and poor kids find the right way and the wrong way. It certainly dosn't help if bad parents also have the $ to spoil their kids though

Serious issues for a guy who happens to be extremely talented so some of you care how it relates to your entertainment. His dad thinking he may not survive too many more months is probably close to the truth. Very sad.

What's Johnny messing up his life with? Is it just alchohol or has he been using for heavier drugs? Sounds like a substance abuse issue to me. He can't control himself. If so why hasn't the league picked it up in a test?

No matter what kind of shit he pulled. He couldn't handle it when it didn't work that way anymore.
Having said that, this kid needs serious help.
Coming from a person who has an addict in the family, progress is only made when the person is finally sick and tired of being sick and tired.

Time to test him for CTE. All of the signs point to that with his increasingly erratic behavior.
February 5th, 2016 at 4:33 PM ^
Not sure if you're serious or forgot the "/s" tag, but CTE can only be definitively diagnosed posthumously, and, to my knowledge, they aren't yet close to coming up with a test that can objectively detect it while the patient is still living.

Cranial vivisection is possible, but probably not recommended.
Disclaimer: DO NOT GOOGLE IMAGES for "vivisection".

There's little doubt that Manziel is done with the Browns, and it seems as if he'll have a hard time making it on an NFL roster next season.
If this is heading down the road that it seems, then short of an incredible turnaround, I have doubts that he's ever make an NFL roster again. As easy a target as Manziel is and for totally legitimate reasons, any story where things like addiction ultimately work to destory a person is a story you never want to see and, jokes about him aside, I wouldn't wish it on Manziel either. One of my sisters went down a similar road - struggling with dependency and finding herself in awful situation or being the instigator of awful situations as a result - and it did not end well, I'll put it like that.
I sincerely hope he does get help before it is too late.

I will admidt it. I was (and maybe still am a little bit) a HUGE Johnny Football fan. I was beyond excited when the Browns drafted him and I was there last October when he got his first start against the Bengals. I can tell you walking into the stadium that day there was an energy and excitement that we Browns fans seldom (if ever) get to feel. And then he laid a giant turd and that basically ended that last year.
This year seemed different though - at least at the start. He came in for a concussed McCown in game one and on the second series unleashed a beutiful 60 yard bomb for a TD. We lost the game but damn he was fun to watch. Then game two against Tennessee he led us to victory with again, two long bombs, the last one being totally JF with him running around and throwing the ball sidearmed against his body for an imossible TD. For a day at least it was fun to be a Browns fan.
Everyone knows how this has ended. And I'm sad for Johnny but I'm also sad for me and all the other Browns fans who hoped beyond hope we had finally found our QB. Now it's ending beyond badly, we've got a new coach (again) and we're going to have to find a new QB (again).
And I will miss watching him play. He made a shitty team interesting to watch at least.

He might get one more shot with a team looking for some backup depth next season, but I'd bet he's played his last meaningful snap in the NFL.

With the baggage that comes with the hire, you only do it if you think he's going to play.

They seriously thought Manziel would be thei franchise QB. Seriously! Still hilarious
February 5th, 2016 at 6:15 PM ^
I'll admit, as a Bucs fan, part of me wished they'd brought Manziel in, but bringing in Mike Evans and waiting on Winston was a far better alternative.

Manziel's college exploits were all based on running in circles in the backfield, holding the ball out like a loaf of bread. To be unable to see that his style wouldn't translate to the NFL is too funn and such a Cleveland thing to do
February 6th, 2016 at 12:52 PM ^
...the only people in the Browns organization that didn't see that were Haslam and whoever the random guy was in the street (supposedly homeless but I'm guessing every working class guy Haslam bumps into looks "homeless" to him) that told him to draft Manziel.

I'm a Lions fan and sympathize.
We thought Joey Harrington was the next Joe Montana. At least Joey was pleasant and not a drunk douchebag.

... he is a douchebag with an addiction. I hope he becomes a douchebag without an addiction. And I hope that his path to recovery makes him less of a douchebag in the process.
