Congrats to Heiko
Just heard that Heiko - the MD/PhD U-M student who wrote for MGoBlog during his PhD years - matched for urology at UC San Francisco. For those not familiar with the medical sciences, urology is exceptionally competitive and UCSF is elite (top 3 nationally).
Go Blue (and bubble screens)!
Addendum: Spelling error fixed
----
Mod-Heiko: Hey everyone, thanks so much for your kindness and support! I'm excited that I matched and have a new phase in life to look forward to. I'm so happy to have been a part of the MGoCommunity. It's one of the coolest things I've ever been a part of, and I'm going to miss it for sure. Anyway, I'll try to stay active on the blog as much as possible, and maybe when I'm done with training I'll get to come back to Ann Arbor!
Go blue!

jennifer gratz wrote a letter to heiko saying he only matched because he's asian.
January 22nd, 2016 at 11:29 AM ^
but think you should have cited in proper Bluebook fashion.

You do realize that Asians are discriminated against even worse than whites in academic admissions right?
Also, the OP is close, but UCSF is the 6th ranked urology residency.

This thread was originally titled "Gratz to Heiko." I'm pretty sure Thrillhouse is making a joke based on the fact that someone by that name sued the school over affirmative action, and not actually questioning Heiko's credentials.

Congrats, Heiko. I'll look you up for the 10% MGoBlog procedure discount.

I had a psychology professor tell me some things that forever changed the way I see medical professionals.
He basically said that doctors chose their specialties based on conscious (or subconscious) desires or fetishes. Why would someone become a podiatrist? Because they have a foot fetish. Proctologist? Anal fetish.
The most concerning part was what he had to say about surgeons. Apparently they share a significant number of psychological traits with serial killers. They love blood and gore and found a career that allows them to experience it every day. Had they not gotten into medical school they might be out butchering people.
/no idea why I just wrote all that out

Anesthesia reimbursements have been hit fairly hard where it isn't quite as lucrative as it once was.
January 22nd, 2016 at 1:14 PM ^
I have "good" insurance and I still got assraped a couple years ago for a minor surgery.
January 22nd, 2016 at 1:29 PM ^
Have no idea why I would have heard that. Ah yes, a retired anesthesiologist told me that was why he retired.

A different type of recruiting to be sure, but recruiting never the less.
I wonder if a "matching" system should be implemented in CFB. I'm sure it would look like the annual right of summer with the MGoTeam BigTen player draft.
Congrats to Heiko and may all the bubble screens belong to you.

it has a variety of surgical procedures -- from easy to very complex -- so there is a lot of flexibility in how long you need to train and how complex you want your surgical practice to be.

Congtratulations to Heiko!
While he was both writing for the blog and becoming a Doctor, I was both reading the blog and becoming fat.
I am now inspired to do something with my life.
Someday.

UCSF is literally three blocks from my house. WIll look forward to asking Heiko why he isn't implementing new Urology breakthroughs I read about.

Congratulations, Heiko! USF is an excellent school (my college roommate did his residency there and I'm sure you will love the Bay Area (more so than the lovely Mrs. Sarah Harbaugh, I'm sure)
Best of luck to you in your continuing medical studies and quest to make a vas deferens in the lives of your patients.

Congrats!
UCSF is a great medical center.
SF is a phenomenal place to spend residency years.
Peter Caroll is a very good surgeon, you will be learning from the best.
MGoBloggers should understand that in the medical world, getting into UCSF Urology is equivalent to getting a football scholarship to UM. Nothing to sneeze at!
Fantastic, Heiko!

Heiko,
At UCSF you'll only be a few miles from Georgeus Borges at SJSU--just take the 101!
You can continue your interview series!

Adam Schnepp is well on his way to becomming President.
Oh, and congrats Heiko. I have been told that Urology is one of those "double-dip" specialties that allows for the rapid accumulation of American Dollars.
