OSU LB Darron Lee to Enter Draft

Submitted by Bambi on

According to his twitter.

This is the first draft domino to fal for MSU or OSU. This is pretty big, as Lee was a guy many OSU fans were hopeful would return. He'll probably be a 1st or 2nd rounder in the draft.

OSU is still waiting decisions on WR's Michael Thomas and Jalin Marshall, S's Vonn Bell and Tyvis Powell and CB Eli Apple.

They'll likely still be a plus DL group next year. Nebraska also lost Collins, but also has another good DT to plug in and should be a really solid DT pair. Michigan and MSU will have the best DT group by far next year, but PSU, Nebraska, and Iowa will all be really good still at that position.

Damn I really dont want Franklin fired next year now that we have Brown.  I only wanted him fired so we could get Shoop.  But now he can stay there for a good decade - I'm good with it.

That is 3/4 of their DL and all top 3 round pick types gone.  Good luck PSU!

The only guys I think OSU fans would be surprised to see go are Tyvis Powell and Jalin Marshall. I'd put them at 70/30 stay. The feeling on Eli Apple seems 60/40 stay. Everyone else listed there, including Lee, was seen as good as gone.

Marshall seems really raw - sort of like a Breaston in year 2.

I thought Lee was a given, mocking in the 1st/2nd.  Thomas was a given, 2nd or 3rd WR mocked in most drafts.

Bell and Apple I was not sure of - is Bell pretty much considered gone?

Powell was not even on my radar as an EE.

I agree with you on Marshall, if be shocked if he left, but various places have mentioned him as a candidate.

Lee was a total given, especially with the way he closed out 2014. Would have been a major upset for him to return. Thomas the same thing.

Bell said himself after being named All-American "I've done all I can do here," which made me think he's totally gone.

Apple seems like it could go either way. He replied to Lee's EE tweet with a surprised and a sad emoji (look at this science!) so I interpret that as meaning Apple's leaning toward staying, and was sad his buddy was leaving.

Powell seems like a total non-candidate for EE, but someone mentioned his name, so I figured I'd mention him too.

Ohio has great talent but they will not be near the team they were this season. Their class is about even with Michigan's and I will venture to say that we close better than they do.

Meyer has had a few highly ranked classes in a row along with this possible number 1 class this year. That should provide us with a few less bumps for a young team. Not to mention the QB (the most important position in football) coming back who has had some success.

Exactly. Anyone who wants OSU to be good is stoned. WE HAVE SUCKED FOR A LONG TIME. It is about time OSU goes through some adversity. Fuck them and all of their spoiled rotten fans. They are actually upset about going 12-1. Gee, I wonder what the hell that feels like. Must be nice. Those idiots have no idea how good they have had it since 2002.

is going to be down next year is deluding themselves.  Meyer has top talent at every position in the pipeline.  He loses NFL-caliber players to graduation and early departure every year, and he's still 50-4.  Unlike us, he does not take 3-4 years to develop elite recruits into viable starters.  He gets guys playing at an all-conference level or better by their second year, and you can count on the same thing again in 2016.  There will be at least half a dozen guys you've hardly heard of before playing championship level football for them next year.

Same with MSU.  Dantonio has proven that he can just keep winning at a very high level no matter who he loses.  Everyone predicted they'd be down this year with graduation, injuries and the loss of Narduzzi, and they went 12-1 with a BT championship and road wins against us and OSU.  The last time they had a new starting QB (Cook's sophomore year in 2013), they went 13-1, with a BT championship and a Rose Bowl win, so don't think that's going to slow them down in 2016.

We're not going to beat these teams by hoping they get worse.  WE will have to get better.  Much better.

Between our two rivals but both effective. I think Msu is much more susceptible off falling back and our success will be more toward their detriment tha to osu.

Msu approach is a tough road. Osu just plugs in 5 stars and moves on if they don't perform. Nice benefit of massive success. I suspect Michigan will do the same soon. Look at d green.

Not sure I expect OSU to be "down" next year. They lose talent, sure, but Meyer can just plug another 5-star in who will be playing at a high level by season's end. That's the beauty of having elite recruiting and elite coaching. You just plug guys in and watch the fireworks.

They won't start next season at #1, but I'd expect them to be in the playoff conversation all of next year until someone goes and knocks them out of it. Hopefully us....

Sure, they'll replace talent with talent, but they are going to lose a lot of experience on both sides of the ball. Plus they have to play Oklahoma, Wisconsin and MSU away, none of which will be easy, and will play the most talented *and* experienced Michigan team in a decade. With that in mind, my guess would be they win 9 games in 2016, then make another run at the CFP in 2017.

But yeah...a "down" OSU team with their staff, system and recruiting is still a very good football team.
