Early Report on 2016 5* RB Kareem Walker's visit
First post, please be gentle. I checked the board and didn't see this posted yet.
There's not a ton of information, but it appears Kareem Walker enjoyed his visit (how could he not after that game), and has legitimate interest in Michigan. As most of you probably know, Walker is close with several major Michigan commits/target from NJ.
There have also been rumblings in the twitterverse that Walker might be trying to come back for another visit this weekend for the game against MSU, but I didn't see any official sources corroborating that information yet. If true, this could be very good news for Michigan.

And not to hear Sam Webb say nice things about recruiting.

A convincing win vs. MSU will be an absolute game changer in recruiting for this 2016 class. The Big House may be louder next Saturday than the night game vs. ND back in 2011. If M starts fast the team will have years of frustration in terms of crowd noise on their side (and in a positive form).

No lie, for the first time ever, I had to turn my TV down during the DEFENSE! DEFENSE! chants. It was too loud for the rest of the family.
For real.

I was at the game sitting in the section right next to where the recruits sit (Section 23). He was with Mama Gwen and appeared to be having a good time. Real inside scoop here

Of course he wants to come back! That familiar aura of mystical momentum has the program all glittery again and Harbuagh is a boss...Harboss!!!

Michigan has a huge presence in New Jersey
This is a big deal. NJ is full of talent, none of it loyal to Rutgers, and we are catching the wave while Penn State (where they usually go) is down.
It also helps that NJ is now "Big Ten country" and Michigan is no longer viewed as some mysterious far-away school. We play in NJ or in the near-by DC area every single year.
Next to the B1G's bank account, the single biggest beneficiary of the addition of Rutgers and Maryland to the Big Ten . . . is us.
October 11th, 2015 at 11:32 PM ^
This is why Michigan fans should be pleased with the addition of Rutgers and Maryland. I get that it comes with the cost of games against Nebraksa and Wisconsin but NJ and the DMV produce a lot of recruits and those areas are now B1G country (although the ACC is still a player in the DMV). Neither Rutgers nor Maryland have a storied tradition so for now those recruits are going to flow to Michigan as well as Ohio State, Penn State, and perhaps Michigan State. but certainly Michigan stands to benefit.
October 12th, 2015 at 9:16 AM ^
This is also a reason that I was extermely relieved that they reorganized the B1G Leaders and Legends divisions and put us in the East division where we belong.
I did not want to be in a position where Michigan only played in some of the most fertile recruiting grounds once every 4 years while, OSU and PSU played there every year.
We are in a great position right now.

If he comes here will he be willing to wear the number 12?

A little more hearsay to stoke the fire, but Walker is believed to be the committed prospect that his would-be head coach tried to dissuade from visiting this weekend. His supposed response was that he would either take the visited commited or uncommited to that school. Just hearing that he wanted to visit so much that he was willing to decommit from Meyer just for the chance to see Michigan is great to hear. And also awesome that he could give Meyer an "f you" and Meyer just backs off and lets him do what he wants shows how bad Urban wants to keep him in the fold.
October 11th, 2015 at 11:21 PM ^
If that is true, then this kid would instantly be my new favorite player (assuming he commits to us)

That's pretty standard practice. You only have so many spots. Also pretty sure that other RB was Zeke Elliot. I'd say that worked out pretty well for them.

Isn't that what you guys all praised Beilein for doing with Xaier Simpson after you were upset at Beilein for not doing that with the Tyus Battle situation?
I mean, I don't really see what's wrong with that? I understand a kid wanting to take all his visits and he absolutely should get to take all his visits, but if PLAYER Y is willing to commit right now in PLAYER X's vacant spot while he goes on visits, sorry man, only so many openings.
October 12th, 2015 at 12:54 AM ^
The only reports were that he told Winston his spot was gone. Not that he was on the phone telling him to decide while he was about to visit elsewhere. Not sure what any of this has to do with Battle.
October 12th, 2015 at 1:09 AM ^
I would imagine Beilein said something to the effect of "Commit now, or your spot is gone." and Winston said he wasn't ready to commit now. That seems like a reasonable statement. I can't imagine Beilein just called Winston and said "Hey your spot is gone."
And I was under the impression Battle committed to UM, de-committed, and then UM continued to hold his spot, costing them a shot at some other kid (name?) who signed with MSU, because he was unsure if he would get taken by UM still if Battle decided to re-commit. Which was a possibility. Obviously, Battle didn't, and UM ended up with neither.

He has been here much longer than you have.
October 12th, 2015 at 8:06 AM ^
when you criticize Beilein for doing something you only imagined he did. Winston has said no such thing and has implied the opposite. Your first mistake is in thinking Beilein acts like any coach in Columbus.
Langford was told his spot was gone when Battle committed. You're the first one I've ever heard suggest Michigan wouldn't take him after Battle's de-commit. It sounds unreasonable. I don't think anyone would do that. I think the obvious explanation was that Langford was no longer considering us. Recruits rarely make up their mind on the day of their announcement. By that time it was just too late for us.

Then that makes more sense. I was under the wrong impression.
October 12th, 2015 at 8:37 AM ^
Okay.
The thing is, Urban has developed a bit of a reputation for his timing in these situations. That is the fundamental issue here.
October 12th, 2015 at 9:31 AM ^
You usually have decent posts, but comparing Beilein to Urban is a complete joke.
Be happy, you have one of the best football coaches in the country who just won a national championship. That said, he's nothng like John Beielein. Urban is not the most ethical guy, his track record on this subject is quite long. The truth matters little to him when achieving his objective.
So just live with it and enjoy the wins.
October 12th, 2015 at 11:30 AM ^
I don't think telling a recruit "commit now or lose your spot to someone who will" is unethical.

I wonder if Higdon getting reps had any impact on Walker. Harbaugh showed he is not afraid to hand the ball to a true freshman.

I figured it had more to do with Drake working through a injury. We saw Drake Johnson in the first quarter...then Higdon came in i believe. Interesting though.

Although it's good that DePaul Catholic's Kareem Walker, despite having committed to Ohio State, is considering Michigan, according to a report in one of the northern New Jersey papers that covers high school sports, Walker plans to take official visits to Alabama, Mississippi and Ohio State on dates to be determined. He also is considering taking an official visit to Arizona State as well. LINK
DePaul Catholic plays at Poly Prep Country Day in Brooklyn, New York on Friday night. If he were to make it back to Michigan on Saturday for the Michigan State game, instead of visiting Coliumbus for Ohio State and Penn State on Saturday night, then you're right -- that "could be very good news for Michigan." Of course, he'd still be able to visit Ohio State for the Michigan State game on November 21.
As for Alabama and Mississippi, he won’t be able to visit those schools for either of their rivalry games this year. The Iron Bowl game is at Auburn and the Egg Bowl game is at Mississippi State. But if he wants to see Leonard Fournette twice, he could visit Alabama on November 7 and Ole Miss on November 21 for their games against LSU.

Lol, good on the kid taking an OV to ASU. This is his only opportunity to experience a present-day Sodom and Gomorrah.
October 12th, 2015 at 6:04 AM ^
I know..that one really stands out...then when I think about it, I'm surprised damn near ever top 100 player doesn't take a mid-winter OV on that campus...to see and experience the sights :)

Mitchell is also trying to recruit Jordan Fuller, 5th ranked player in Jersey and a top 150 guy.
http://247sports.com/Bolt/Michigan-Commit-Paints-Dream-Scenario-40172092
Adding Walker, Fuller, and Garry would give Michigan 4 of the top 5 in Jersey and 5 top 150 players from the state.

Touche. After typing Fuller and Mitchell I just had to continue the trend of a double letter in the name.
October 11th, 2015 at 11:27 PM ^
- Kareem Walker
- Rashan Gary
- Jordan Fuller
- Lavert Hill
- Quinn Nordin
- Carlo Kemp / Quayshon Alexander
- Devin Bush Jr. / Jonathan Jones / Daelin Hayes
- Conner Murphy / Jacob Mathis
Have no idea how all of this fits...but they'll make it work to get 28.
22 now...minus Reese (because he can't EE) or Harding (who's been rumored forever).

TEs have to notice how we're using them and UGA is looking less good.
