OT: Rhett Rodriguez (Rich Rod's son) mid-season update

Submitted by Dawkins on

I previously posted about Rich Rod's son Rhett having grown into a successful quarterback at his high school in Tucson, Arizona, and becomming a potential 2017 D-1AA/D-1 quarterback prospect (and a possible walk-on candidate for his dad at Arizona).

So far this year he's having another successful season. His team is 5-1 and Rhett continues to put up impressive numbers:

  • 1,193 Passing Yards
  • 67% Completions
  • 8 Passing TDs
  • 1 INT
  • 392 Rushing yards
  • 9 Rushing TDs

I couldn't find any highlights from this season, but here are his 2013 and 2014 highlights on Hudl if anyone is interested.

It's notable that his team was 0-10 the year before he arrived, then they went 8-3 with him starting as a freshman and 7-4 during his sophomore year, making the playoffs both years.

Great job, Rhett!

What a joke. Jim Harbaugh would knock you out and ban you from the stadium if he heard you talk trash like that. Michigan is about excellence not grown men dissing 16 year olds because of who their father is.

And folks complained about the RR/Casteel thread the other day...

If the high school performance of Rich's (not-recruited) son is boardworthy, it's certainly appropriate to continue to remind folks of the failure Rich heaped upon Ann Arbor and, no, it wasn't just he didn't have Casteel with him (or that he didn't get enough hugs).

Rich, I hope you enjoy the desert and continue to allow more points that Arizona's basketball team.

Is this the first thread about a D-1AA or possibly D-1 QB prospect? How many stars is he rated by Scout ...Rivals ...247? Is he a 'beast' or a 'stud?' Where does TomVH have him going?

I could see this kid wanting to come to Michigan and I could see Michigan recruiting him if he's a good fit for their system and what the coaches want. His dad is only so important in that equation. There are plenty of former players coaches etc who have children who go to schools they may have disliked when younger. Rhett might not like Michigan very much because of what happened to his dad and that's a different point, but if the offer and kid's interest fit, it would petty and selfish for rich rod to stand in the way. I've heard a lot said about him, but he never came off as petty or selfish in this way.

to bring us back to our senses. I'm 100% with you. If the kid is good enough and wants to go to Michigan, then its his choice. He deserves the same opportunity to go through the recruiting process as any other prospect. Over this HS season and next he'll get the chance to show on the field what level of talent he has. I'm not going to be concerned with him until he and Michigan actually show interest, if that ever happens.

If he's a good dual threat QB, he will always have a place in his daddy's offense.  There's nothing wrong with that.  I can't think of too many QB's RichRod recruited that we wouldn't be happy with:

Pat White
Geno Smith
Denard (!!)
Tate (SMH)
Devin (SMDH)
Anu Solomon

The above were good college QBs until someone else broke them.

Last year people were talking about how it was nice to see richrod doing well somewhere else regardless of what happened up here. This year he has a few bad losses in what is considered the most competitive division in fbs and people still want to find any flaw to prove that he sucks. It's quitter petty. No qualms here, I like being able to watch his games at night and wish him nothing but success. ........ Unless some assholes intentionally puts us in a bowl game with them.... I really just don't like the idea of that game at all... If we lost, even though e harbaugh would never allow that, it might top app state on the list of shit people in Columbus never shut up about.
