OT: What's Your Guiltiest Song?

Submitted by Steve Breaston… on

I feel like it's going to be a slow week for the board so thought a lighthearted Monday question was apropos: What is your Guiltiest Song? The one you would sing in your car by yourself but change the channel if anyone else was with you. The song that you would like and claim that it "came with the iPhone." For fun, try to name one Oldie and one newer song.

For me, it's gotta be:

Oldie: "Straight Up" by Paula Abdul

Newbie: "Roar" by Katy Perry

DISCUSS (but silently judge me)

Any of Madonna's old stuff. Material Girl, Lucky Star, Get Into The Groove, or Dress You Up In My Love. From '83-'87, she put out some good shit. As for the present, I can't get the bassline to Uptown Funk out of my head. That's about the only good thing about that song.

Old: man I don't even know. I like the good old stuff and don't like the stuff most people find annoying. Maybe "Take On Me"? New: Gotta be "Call Me Maybe." It's too catchy.

Backstreet Boys - I Want It That Way

I request it at every wedding I attend (including my own), and it never disappoints.

Colonel,

I thought you would go with songs like:

Summer of 69 - Brian Adams

Put it in Your Mouth - Akinyele

Kiss That Frog - Peter Gabriel

Lick It - 20 Fingers

Walk on the Wild Side - Lou Reed

Work It - Missy Elliiott

Love in an Elevator - Aerosmith

My Neck, My Back (Lick It) - Khia

Is it wrong that I know all these songs Colonel Angus?

That Chumbuwumba song is 20 years old! Unless you are referring to a *different* Chumbuwumba song .  .  . er, nevermind.

This is not a criticism, by the way. I'm also old enough to think of things from 2 decades ago as being "recent." I have no idea what the rest of these whippersnappers are talking about.

The Warrior - Scandal featuring Mrs. John McEnroe

In my defense, no small part of my appreciation for the song is due to my major crush on Patty Smyth.  If the song was by Scandal featuring Rosie O'Donnell, I probably wouldn't like it nearly as much.

Don't know about a song in particular but I definitely have some guilty pleasure bands. La Dispute and Pianos Become the Teeth are considered to be unlistenable (so incredibly emo) by most, but I don't care, it's just so good.

1960s;:  "Crazy," by Patsy Cline

1970s: "One of Those Nights" by the Eagles

1980s: "Billie Jean," by MJ (barely beating out "Who's Crying Now?" by Journey, and, seeing BFC's post  just above there made me think of another great guiltypleasure, "Goodbye to You," by Scandal)

1990s: "Cryin'" by Aerosmith

2000s: "I Ain't As Good As I Once Was," by Toby Keith

2010s: "Call Me Maybe," by Carly Rae Jepson

I will listen to Ginuwine's Pony without a hint of remorse.  Hell, I've watched the Magic Mike 2 trailer a bunch of times just because I like that song.

My last pay check was $9500 working 12 hours a week online. My sisters friend has been averaging 15k for months now and she works about 20 hours a week. I can't believe how easy it was once I tried it out. This is what I do...  http://www.jobs-review.com

I have a few examples of the many that I could put down...

From the late 1960's, "Windy" by the Association

Some 15 years after that, "Der Kommissar" by Falco, also "Vienna Calling" by Falco.

More modern stuff - "You Get What You Give" by the New Radicals

Truly modern - "Cooler Than Me" by Mike Posner

I love that song and for some reason, always associate it with the years I spent traveling back and forth to Utah working on a client project. I think that's because I always had it on my music player and had it on my playlist for the flights home.

You should feel zero shame about The Association - that was just a straight-up good band; you don't see that many non-Beach Boy pop acts really do cool stuff with harmonies.

Also totally with you on "You Get What You Give"
