OT: New Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer
Co-written by Michigan alumnus Lawrence Kasdan (also co-wrote The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and Raiders of the Lost Ark), the newest Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer was released today.
but with Star Wars Rebels and these two trailers, I'm more encouraged than ever that Disney Star Wars is going to be as magical for the next generation of kids as the original trilogy was for me.
Rebels is good. It started really boring and slow, but that is how any new show usually is. I really like how they made it better towards the end of the season. I have high hope for the coming seasons.
I view Disney as the type of corporation that would be the product of a Dave Brandon cloning machine. They are completely incapable of restraint and they are going to milk this motherfucker for all it's worth.

The first three Star Wars were, indeed, about pure storytelling. Or, at the very least, they were conceived and originally written that way. Lucas was allowed to realize his vision because he owned the property and he had creative control over the first three movies. We was free to make them at his own pace because he wasn't trying to recover a $2 billion investment like Disney needs to do now. If you want to see what Disney will likely do with Star Wars, then look at the trajectory of ESPN over the past 20 years.
Anyhow, I don't care if Disney merchandises this shit, but they are already doing Episode VIII with a different director and they have a spin-off film in the works too. I think that the best case outcome here is that Disney's Star Wars is like today's Superhero comic book movies. We'll get lots of them and they will range from shit to "pretty good", but none of them will be culturally influential or revered as one of the all time greats 25 years later.
Episodes 1-3 had a "Daddy needs a new Porsche" feel to them. The dialog was even more wooden that Lucas's first attempt at screenwriting. When your CGI character demonstrates more emotion than the human actors, something's wrong.
I've been replaying X-Wing and Tie Fighter over the last few months in my spare time. Those don't fall in the half assed category. Though I agree some other definitely do.
my productivity just crashed into negative imaginary numbers for the rest of the day.

Yes, he's directing it.
The over/under on the number of shout-out lines that get inserted into the script (e.g. "I've got a bad feeling about this") currently sits at 100.
True story. I bet Ewan McGregor shows up for some reason to say "The negotiations were short."
IMO I believe the tally of quoteable shoutouts will be even higher. I think 100 is a bit too low with 6 movies to choose from. However as long as we do not get "Wesa goin home", I may be okay with it.
The Google machine says "yes, he directed it."
While I have these persistent reservations about how good this movie might be as a movie (and I could be completely wrong, of course), it looks visually superb just based on the preview. I would definitely go see it despite not being a huge Star Wars fan. That light saber was awesome - I will say that.

The force is strong in my pants now.
I just went from six to midnight.
WTF are you t-....
Oh. I get it. "Room in your pants" and all that.
Your last sentence sums up my thoughts exactly. I've been trying to downplay any excitement about it and go in with no expectations so that I'm not disappointed.
The trailers are ruining my attempts at that. This looks so awesome.
But to be fair, I said that about Episodes 1-3.
To be even more fair, those moves weren't terrible, just didn't stand with the originals.*
*Except for Jar Jar Binks. He was real bad.
LOL
"Artoo."
I watched it thrice already and good god I cannot wait for this movie. The one I'm looking forward to the most this year happens to be the last one. Go figure. Go out with a bang, I guess. JJ is the perfect choice for SW and I really hope he comes back for episode 9 and others in the trilogy to follow this new one.
Who have no idea how to please her.
I still upvoted it anyway.
Gave me chills

I think you can tell by my signature that I agree! The has got to be a MGO shirt with Harbaugh in there somwhere, right?
When I saw Han Solo and Chewbacca, the first thing I considered is why Han Solo had aged at an appropriate rate and showed some gray, but Chewbacca looked like it was still the Summer of 1977.
However, research has revealed that: "Wookiees were a long-lived people, with a lifespan of several standard centuries." (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Wookiee)
Good to know in case you've considered befriending an adult wookie, just know that that Wookie will likely be burying you and softly release a melancholy low growl at your wake...
I so badly hope they bring back Mark Hamill and his cheesy acting. One of my favorite all-time lines from any movie is (in a shrill, whiney voice) "But I was going into Toshi Station to pick up some power converters!"
It's no secret that Mark is in this movie reprising his role as Luke.
Yeah I should've checked IMDB before posting that comment. I suppose the voice over was a good enough clue.
When it was announced that the original cast was going to be in this movie, I was very disappointed, simply because I wanted something new and fresh; the Skywalker family wasn't that. Then I realized that they will only be in this movie and we can move on to something/someone else in the other movies to come. I know that the Skywalker family will still be the premise of the story in the later movies, but that's OK.
"new and fresh" in the prequels and it sucked.
The only thing I'm worried about is the age of the three leads. It's depressing seeing them get old, like going to see a band you used to worship in high school and now they're in their 70's.

It didn't have to suck. If it were in the hands of someone else, they could have been as amazing as the first three.
The funny thing is he is a TOP-RATE voice actor, his work as the Joker in the Batman games and in Batman the Animated series is incredible. I also liked his guest shot on The Flash this year.
I reply, "...these aren't the droids you seek."
He may be a meh actor, but his voice acting is nothing short of brilliant. If you never have, listen to him as the Joker from the old animated Batman series and some of the more recent Batman video games.
He's scary good.
Monsters and Godzilla were well done sci-fi movies IMO. Not a huge Star Wars fan, but I will most likely see this.
Very excited for Jurassic World though. Freaking dinosaurs.
I, too, am excited for JW, but SW is my number one movie in 2015.
Will the dinosaurs actually bite people and or use their claws this time around, or will they just resort to neck-breaking again?

From the deep dark secrets vault: I was one of the first Star Wars nerds, having seen it on 17 consecutive weekends when it first came out in 1977.
I had been imagining that you weren't old enough to drink.
