|09/12/2018 - 11:55pm||He will have other articles,…||
He will have other articles, but not a Michigan Monday. He's never written one after The Game. It isn't the stated purpose of the article. That purpose is, basically, to have him watch your games and let Buckeye fans know what you are up to and what we should think about it. The assumption is, after The Game, we don't need it because we saw they game and the other usual post game articles would cover it. Not like Brian skipping UFR's when you lose The Game because he doesn't want to have to watch it over and over again to do a thorough UFR, but instead the aspects of Michigan Monday are in the other post game articles. It is late and I don't feel like checking, but I don’t think Tony does one after your bowl game since we aren't playing you again that season. I imagine he would do one if we were both in the playoffs and didn't play in the opening round.
I don't see the tone change several folks have mentioned, but it may be my bias. I do know since Hoke, almost every season there are folks who see a change in tone after a big Michigan win and insist he is worried that this will be the year the tide will turn.
Also, there are questions here about how he may cherry pick certain stats, his favorite seems to be to down play yards per carry by taking out big plays. He has done that with analysis of Ohio State as well, so it isn't something he uses just to try to down play your offensive success. Whether it is a valid point is debatable, all those plays happened, but it is there to discuss and if need be discredit.
I will say at some point he did realize that he has a number of views from Michigan fans and writes it with that in mind.

In general, I mostly lurk to get a different perspective. I was introduced to this by my Michigan co-worker, when I was still living in exile in Washington DC. He found it, and the old Mzone, when he was looking for something to compliment/counter content from the Ozone I would share with him.

|11/27/2016 - 8:58am||I think Weber was wanting a flag||
As I recall, the defender drove him out of bounds and then kind of threw him down. I don't think it was worth a flag because I think he was completing a play that started inbounds. And I think that is what the ref was telling Weber there. But I agree the butt smack is odd.
|11/22/2016 - 8:17am||A few more shocking stats||
In those four shutouts, Rutgers totaled 126 passing yards. OSU/UM/PSU/MSU: 751.
Rushing? Rutgers got 265 yards in those 4 games. OSU/UM/PSU/MSU: 1,507.
Overall, 2,258 yards to 391.
Rutgers 24 1st downs, OSU/UM/PSU/MSU 100
They forced 12 total punts, meanwhile RU punter Michael Cintron punted 46 times for 1,729 yards. He punted 43 times in their other 7 games for 1,642 yards. He's got 3,371yards on the season.
First P5 team since Baylor in 2002 to be shutout in 4 games in the same season.

The top two are Baseball and Football, the order varies depedning on which schoool you are talking about. #3 varies, as you say, after that. At Iowa and Penn State Wrestling might actually be #3. Heck at PSU Wrestling may be #2 because their basketball has been so dreadful for so long. At times, at OSU, Women's Hoops were probably 3rd. That still might be the case, though Hockey is close if it isn't.
|05/26/2016 - 11:24am||I think you have some apples and oranges there||
The Interwbes tell me the Wilpon Complex seats 2,800. I don't know what regular season ticketrs go for, but at MGOBLUE.COM, the tourney tickets are $8-12, I would assume regular season tickets to Hockey or MBB are 5 to 10 times that. Not to mention Yost seats a bit more than twice that number (6,600 is the number I found) and Crisler about 4 and half times as many (12,707.)
It sounds like you have a strong core of supporters for Softball which is great, but I don't think comparing the sellouts is a fair way to judge the comparitive interest in the sports mentioned.
A pro sports example I saw the other days was an argument between Pens and Priates fans. The Pens have had a bunch of sellouts, but the Pirates still have the higher radio and TV ratings. PNC Park holds about twice what the Consol Energy Center does.

|05/18/2016 - 10:25pm||Last year it was our turn to be the marquee home game for Rutger||
They seem to be following the recent Penn State trend of having either you or us (depending on the year) as their big night home game. We are PSU's white out game, again this season. Since 2010 it has been either you or us except for 2011 when they did it for Alabama.
Interestingly Maryland has not gone that route. Our game in 2014 and yours in 2015 were both Wolverine Devotee approved noon kickoffs ay Byrd.
|05/11/2016 - 8:27am||The real question is||
|05/08/2016 - 12:20am||Yes||
He and his wife had lead the fundraising for it and reportedly donated several million dollars. They love her as much as him and I think their BOT decided that might be a bridge too far.
Their Food Science ice cream shop still sells Peachy Paterno. Much to the consternation of the cultist, they named the building for the President who signed the Consent Degree with the NCAA.
The McAndrew forum at their Rivals site is the epicenter of the crazies. They have a dozen or so folks that can best be described as the Free Jerry bloc. They are convinced he was railroaded and just had boundry issues. They are easy spot because when they discuss the young men were abused by Sandusky as "victims." Their view is the real victims are the Paternos and themselves. Many of the rest think those guys give the rest of them a bad name.
|04/25/2016 - 5:48pm||I was living in exile in DC||
The local government I worked for hired two new folks to act almost like living mirrored drives. That way if one of us was sick, on vacation, etc the other would be there. I was one and my compatriot, John, grew up in Ann Arbor, went to Wisconsin and had worked for PSU. Started in the late spring of 2002.
I would regularly share stuff from the OZone, way before Tony Gerdman was there with him. We were the only B1G folks, our boss was a Terps alum, wonderful guy. John wanted a little more balance and dug around and found the MZone and MGoBlog. There wasn't a lot of good free content to a couple B1G guys starving for news. I lurked at both, along with some other B1G team sites, most which are defunct or got picked up by sbnation, for a long time. The MZone was much more casual, so I posted there when Yost started the site back during conference realignment. When he semiretired and went to tweeting I finally started posting over here.

There was even a groupon for half off membership. While not Dave Brandon's idea, it did seem Brandonesque at the time.
Penn State has a similar philosophy of letting friends of the University join the alumni association.
Ours is a more traditional approach, per the alumni website, we limit members to:
Individuals who have earned associate, bachelor, graduate, professional, or honorary degrees from Ohio State, as well as medical resident graduates of the university.

Maybe it is because I come from the Dark Side, but if he was upfront with them, I don't have much of a problem with it. Especially if it might be a one season thing. He grabbed a lot of these kids before the season started or got going. As the season started to exceed expectations he got better plays to show interest. The probelm is how much did he tell them and when.
Having been on the revieving end of this with a few girls back in the day, it sucks and I feel for the young men. But again, how much did they know and when did they know and that is something that can't really be answered at this time.
|01/18/2016 - 10:25pm||I almost posted something like that at Testudo Times||
But the wounds are fresh, and humor from a Buckeye might not be well received so soon. I did tell that to some Terp fans I know from my years in DC, but I prefer lurking to trolling as a rule anyhow. I was here not long after Brian started. A coworker who was a Michigan fan when we were both living in exile in DC introduced me to it and the Mzone. I didn't start posting here until a couple years ago.

You guys had gotten bitten badly and repeatedly by the injury bug. Yeah the timing sucked and if Beck or Warinner had announced they took a job after we pooped ourselves against MSU where we had only the weather and overconfidennce to blame, I'd be bitter as well. So I get it, I just think he wasn't going to come up with much better given the pieces he had left.

Kind of glad about that. Doesn't cancel my vote out. But they've never done them, that I recall, not a Harbaugh thing. I saw that complaint that Tony was more nervous/snarky/cowrring in fear because of the success Harbaigh was having. I didn't really see a difference other than they were late, I think mostly due to the book he was working on.
I recall similar comments here when Hoke had a successful first season. When the shine wore off Hoke, the tone stayed the same, but the Michigan audience, especially in the last year, was more receptive to a critical view. If anything I think Tony was more positive toward Harbaugh in his first year than he was with Hoke. But I come with my own biases, so maybe I am full of it.

Their view is not colored by the potential the Bama coaches might see in practice, but by just what they see on the field.
That is why, on a different scale some of you like Gerd's Michigan Monday, though it is mot as neutral as Herman probably was. If you ignore the snark that Tony puts in for us, the analysis tends to be pretty fair and maybe not as rosy as it might be elsewhere. But when there is praise it is genuine and not echo chamber.
|01/11/2016 - 7:18pm||They are relatively level headed||
Sure, there were some unhappy about Shoop, but no worse than you guys with Durkin. Many of them see Hand going as a blessing. While they feel the same or even moreso with Hand, the rapid stages of grief over Shoop leaving, except for acceptance are best viewed at BWI the Rivals free board. They wanted to bring Paterno guys back for the DC or the now open position coach spot since they promoted Pry. They'd like to bring back home your safeties coach, but for many of them anyone that played or coached under Paterno would be fine. Except Sandusky.
Though that is a Free Jerry outpost. Not many, but some still use quotes around the word victims and think ole Jer had boundry issues and got railroaded by bad eggs who wanted to make a quick buck.
Bu they have threads about the NCAA having it in for Paterno because of a few second clip of a TV in the background having a PSU game on. And they are happy the halo was returned to the mural that includes Paterno.

My older son, who is 12, finally started noticing the prices on cars, like $110 for a Polar Express Passenger Car. He finally gets why I was so insistent on being gentle with them.
Agree on the Thomas stuff. Buying bulk LEGOs online also a good way to go if you want to build stuff and not make models. I find it interesting that LEGO let them make the movie the way they did because it was somewhat an indictment of their current business model of making model kits.
Funny story though, we have a big wooden Thomas table my friend gave me when he moved from WV to FL. His youngest son was about 5 at the time, should have loved Thomas. But my friend was the living inspiration of the Will Ferrel character and he had glued all of the teack to the table when his older son played with it because he got tired of putting it together. Then wondered why neither son had much interest in it after that.

|01/06/2016 - 10:45am||Had the same issue with the Ohio State One||
I did see someone selling the box for almost $60. My 4 year old saw the OSU version of the train the OP mentioned in the alumni magazine and wanted it. But he is 4, I'm not bying HO for him, even though he is 10 times more gentle with toys than his older brother was at the same age. I have bunch of O gauge items, so while HO is nicer if you are really interested in more realistic looking environments, I have neither the time nor the spare money to do it properly.
The 4 year old has a bunch of wooden Thomas trains that are his and hand me downs from his older brother. I found an OSU version of this which he was happy with for Christmas. They can be purchased here. For those of you with kids with Thomas trains, you know they put the name on the bottom, like James, Percy, etc. The OSU one, is of course, Brutus. Not sure what if any name they put under yours. Jackhammer would be a good choice.
|01/01/2016 - 9:20am||Or more gear at the local Walmart?||
Down here there seem to be 3 kinds of Wolverine Fans.
1) Former alums, children of alums, folks with some kind of tie to the school.
2) Folks that choose to be different for the sake of being different. They don't like Ohio State because most everyone around them does. They were more prevelant in the 90s because they picked Michigan because it was the rival and it was winning. They are rarer these days or they focus time more on the insitutional superiority of Michigan because the on field and to a lesser extent on court results have been lacking. Or they will cling to the success of non-revenue sports.
3) Folks that choose to be different for the sake of being different. Isn't this the same as 2, you ask? Sort of, but no. These are the folks that rebel to rebel and are as likely to also have confederate flags and might have finished High School or picked up their GED, but I kind of doubt it. I'm not sure it is fair to call them fans. They wear Michigan gear, but I'm not sure if they bought it or they got it from folks from category 2 who donated it to charity after the last decade.

|12/30/2015 - 1:25pm||I am but a humble swim official||
I do both Y level and a summer rec league. In both there are coaches who have that kind of entusiasm and have challenged my calls when I am standing over the swimmer who missed the touch and they are about 30 yards away. I'd like to think I am fair and I don't look any closer at the kids in that team's swimcaps than any other swimmer. I do know some officials in the rec league who are reluctant to make calls for fear of incurring that coaches wrath and few who I think go out of their way to make calls because of it. One would like to think the grown ups would be more mature than the kids, but sadly that is not always the case.
While there is an "ethusiatstic" Y coach as I said, the Y training is much more involved and the support system for the officials is much better than the Rec league. So I don't think refs are reluctant to make calls nor are they as likely to punish a vocal coach. But even there I find I have to remind myself not to take a challenge personally.
|12/26/2015 - 4:02pm||Painting with a bit of a broad brush||
But I think the folks that were high school age and a bit younger when the end of the Carr era started tend to be just more vitrolic than those who came of age before that. I see a similar issue with folks from our side who came of age during the Cooper years.
I know the ND record is more balanced, though it ended on a high note for the Irish. That and the uneven nature of the recent record against OSU and MSU seems to make them more prone to radicalization. And in ND they see a reflection of dark shades of what they may still be. A long and storied past and a historically impressive record that has been wanting for much of this century. A series of coaches and promises of a return to glory that have not yet been fulfilled.
As I said, the Cooper folks from our side tend to be the most likely to celebrate App State, the more likely to think Harbaugh is head to the Colts or the Bears or anywhere else because they hate the concept of any success for Michigan. Again, broad brush and I am sure folks know exceptions to this, just a thought based on what I have seen.

And apply those and maybe 14 points, though 7 would do, to the MSU game, but I don't think it works that way. Many are hopeful for chaos tomorrow, but if it doesn't happen we will be a miserable bunch. Me, I'm disappointed, but after tomorrow if we aren't head to the CFP Ivm not blaming PSU or UNC or USC or FL, it is our fault. I think with Cook put we did just enough, we thought, not to lose and lead until time ran out.
And because of a swim meet for my 12 year old, I had to sell my tickets. Last time I did that was 2014 Va Tech. I guess it is my fault.
