Andrew Harrison When Asked About Kaminsky

Submitted by HelloHeisman91 on

At the Kentucky presser following tonight's game Andrew Harrison kept it classy.  It's hard to hear but he mumbles it under his breath.

[Ed-Ace: Yeah, this went exactly as you'd expect. Locked.]

Or, maybe KY's youth has just been served...after being shown by WISCY.  One and done has more implications than lack of experience/maturity on the court.  Sort of the "you take the good with the bad mantra" that KY has avoided most of this season despite building its program on primarily one and done freshman superstars.

I have seen the 5-letter version if the N word used a LOT by teens and young 20s on social media -- and I mean by white suburban kids too including girls, refering to blacks or whites. Weirdly I think the younger generation is solving the stigma of this word by overusing it in a different context. Literally changing its meaning. It seems to have a neutral or at least not derogatory meaning.

I think he meant no disrespect by it and it wasnt an isolated use of the term by him. I think us ilder dudes need to understand that the way we perceive the word is not how the younger generation uses it.

Instead of being aghast that he used he term, maybe we all should call everyone it and that way it loses its epithetical meaning.

He meant no disrespect? He prefaced the N word with "Fuck that." He could have said Fuck that dude, guy, caucasian, whatever, it doesn't matter, it's disrespectful. It's amazing the lengths people in this thread have gone to justify Harrison's actions.

Regardless of what race the 2 people involved are, saying "fuck that (anything)" in a post game press conference is classless, disrespectful, and should be scrutinized and punished. We all claim to want to live in a color-blind society without racism. If that's the case, there's simply no way saying "fuck that nigga" in a public forum is acceptable.

An alternate interpetation, rather than talking about Kaminsky, is maybe he was talking to/about the reporter. His whole comment was "Fuck that n*....oh my god", like maybe Kaminsky is the last person he wants to answer a question about (which is immature, but that's not out of play here). The "oh my god" is the part that indicates it to me, like he's exasparated at having to answer a question.

Have no idea, and my guess is he was talking about Kaminsky, but I think it's a possibility.

This isn't even a race issue. The only people making it racist are ill-informed white people, who are bringing up some fabled double standard if Kaminsky were to say the N word, which isn't even equal to what Harrison said.

If Harrison said Fuck that Hick/Honky/Cracker/Pollack, and the media didn't say anything, then there would be a double standard.

The only thing Harrison is guilty of is saying "fuck that guy" during a press conference. It was a classless thing to say and he should know better.

The fact that people don't understand this simple concept is an indictment on America's shitty education system regarding our "melting pot."

The only people who have to tap dance around the idea of racism are racist people. If you do borderline racist things all the time you're probably racist. The vast majority of people think the race card gets pulled way too easily and everyone is too PC. I'm in the opposite camp and think that masses have come to believe a person is only racist if they tar and feather a black person and hang them in a tree. For example, those Oklahoma frat kids "apology" letter where they apologized for "making a mistake," but adamantly claimed they weren't racist. If getting caught gleefully chanting about hanging black people in trees doesn't make you look in the mirror and come to terms with the fact you are racist, then I think it's time to come down more harshly on racism.

The Germans have for decades tried to crushed nascent Nazism, yet in 2015 it is seeing a subtle rise popularity. It's a disease that can't be crushed by repressive measures. It needs to be dealt with at a personal and small group level and go from there. It also requires people from both groups to minimize their prejudices

The only way to squlech this type of thinking is for people from different to interact and to encourage empathy. Once you start to empathize with someone, start to see them as someone who has problems like you, you then can begin to relate.

The biggest division among black and whites is this very problem. They can't relate because they are: a)segregated and b) ignorant of the other's experiences.

Academia tries to bridge these differences, but they are as likely to worsen the problem than to make it better because they live in bubbles that separates them from the rest of society.

The ultimate punishment for this other than him looking like a complete moron... Is that at the end of his 2 year career playing for the All Mighty Kentucky Wildcats he will have zero National Championships. Stay classy my friend. Maybe take a page from your younger teammate Towns who went out with class.

Kaminsky is a flopper who got away with about a dozen moving screens Saturday night. Harrison had a reason to be disgusted with him. Harrison's comment is unfortunate only in that it obscures the need of all Americans - regardless of race - to denounce Wisconsin's unsportsmanlike brand of baskeball.

Flopping, moving screens, etc. are a part of basketball. It's the referees' job to call Kaminsky for the moving screens, not call the flops, etc.

That's like saying it's unsportsmanlike for a defensive back to try to sell an interception, for a centerfielder to hold up a ball that he trapped like he caught it on the fly, and so on.

I agree with the sentiment, but not your examples. Catching a ball isn't illegal, but setting a moving pick is (and flopping should be). I would say it is more like an offensive lineman putting his hands up for the ref after dragging a defender down by the jersey. Or a punter/kicker falling down after barely being touched on a kick so he can try to draw a penalty.

Listen, knowing not to mutter something in front of super-sensitive mics during a press conference is an elective at UK, so you can't blame him for not knowing it yet.

I don't really have a problem with what he said; it clearly was said in the heat of the moment and probably isn't worse than about 90% of the stuff said during a game.  But the fact he didn't have enough of an internal censor to halt himself from saying it that loud is why he should get a little heat for this.

And I guess no one remembers the Fab Five being just as bad after we lost. Chris Webber had a flat out tantrum.

If a black kid using the n-word towards a white person is news to you OR if a kid being salty after a loss is news to you, then you probably should refrain from being in public.

Neither is right or appropriate, but neither is alarming either.

Watch any NFL or NBA game and you'll hear the same word used towards people of all races...with both good and bad intention. This isn't the first time a mic has picked up the word and it won't be the last.

Go in enough locker rooms after heartbreaking losses and you'll see them beat to shit. This isn't the first time or the last.

Again, it's not right...but don't sit up here like "oh my God!" This is awful! This is alarming! Quick, someone get the President's opinion. Let's make this the hot topic for the week!

No. It's not that. It was a pissed off kid doing something stupid. I guarantee there were a bunch of other pissed off kids doing stupid shit after losses in this tournament, just wasn't on camera.

However you felt about the word before or after this, Andrew fucking Harrison's act wasn't going to change your opinion. Moving on.

After UK’s post-game actions last night, does this mean Jay Bilas can stop trumpeting their players as “everything that’s right with college basketball?”

Don't care about word choice - he clearly didn't mean it in a racist manner. However, saying "fuck that whatever" during a press conference is a bad look for anyone. I'm not surprised though. Given Coach Cal's history of being a slimeball piece of shit, would one really expect his players to be taught sportsmanship on a daily basis? I applaud his players that manage to stay classy otherwise.

Double standard. For those people that make it ok for and even defend the use of that word for blacks are just perpetuating the problem. Don't feel guilty for wanting this word GONE! Quit defending the use of it because "he's black and is allowed to say it". It perpetuates racism. It's a word rooted in racism. To say only people of a certain color can say a WORD is blatantly racist.

So, unless I am missing something here, the object lesson seems to be that if you want to see an awkward, bumbling even offhandedly offensive presser in Division I basketball, you need to beat Kentucky and then talk to someone who was being a poor sport on the court during the game. If you just want awkward and bumbling, you need to hire the dude who was at Coastal Carolina  (David Bennett?) who fascinated the sports world with the parable of the Cats In The House.
