Can't figure out how to post it via the mobile app but check out Derrick Green's Instagram account. He is SHREDDED at "234." He looks lighter though. MLIVE is trying to drum up hits by making a story out of his weight but he is ready to go for sure. dg2seven in instagram

Seeing as these guys haven't practiced in almost 3 months I view the weght gains with suspicion. Conditioning has been going on for a few weeks, but you have to think some of that is bad weight. No bowl practices is a bad thing for players' conditioning. And Drake still weighing 174 is crazy, he's been on campus for over a year.

They probably get a week off around Christmas, and another in the summer or immediately after spring ball is over. They missed out on bowl practice, but they've still been "voluntarily" lifting pretty much the whole time.

As far as Drake, they are likely trying to stretch his muscles and make sure he doesn't hurt his hammy again. He doesn't need to be doing squats and a bunch of lifts that delay his recovery and don't prevent him from getting hurt again. He's a RS FR, people are freaking out about the weight of a guy that has never played a down of college football. There are reasons you redshirt people, some people take time to add weight, some people don't add weight as easily either. Drake could easily be recovering, trying to prevent injury, and not a guy that easily gains weight. But people should chill about him only being 174

Lighter = faster
Heavier = stronger

No exceptions. If you maintain your weight, you probably managed to get stronger while maintaining your speed which is double plus good

Vic Beasley, top 10 pick probably in this years draft from Clemson, put on TWENTY POUNDS, in the last year and ran a 4.56 40 at the combine last week. He was a confirmed 220 a year ago and weighed in at the combine in the 240's. Bigger DOES NOT equal slower. It all depends on what kind of weight you put on. Add 15-20 lbs of Derek Green chub and look sluggish. Use the nutrition program given to each athlete and use explosive Olympic Lifts and gain pounds and explosiveness.

Bordon, per your logic, anyone who gains weight gets slower or at best maintains there speed? This flies in the face of every strength and conditioning program in sports. Have you never heard of BIGGER, STRONGER, FASTER. That is what will absolutely happen if one works the program. This comes from someone who has spent the last 25 years in the fitness arena.

Good lord Royce is already a senior. I remember going to Cass Tech games when he was a senior on the team.

You went to Cass Tech field when you were 15 years old ? How worried were your parents when you asked them to drive you to see a high school game because they might have future Uofm players on it ?

I was 16 and I've been going to Cass Tech games for awhile now. That game was the regional final at Lake Shore. De La Salle and Shane Morris vs Cass Tech and Royce, Richardson, Lewis way before he committed.

Ian Bunting at 243 is a godsend. Drake Harris still at 174 means he's not seeing the field this year. Bunting was more vital to our team's success, way less depth at TE. Drake can take another year to get to playing size now that he is healthy, Darboh, Ways, Canteen, and Cole are field ready. Cole at 200 lbs should have blocking ability JH loves at WR, if he is still as explosive as always he should play good amount of reps this fall.

Plenty?

5 out of 44 receivers weighed less than 185.

Mario Alford - 5'8", 180 (2.65 lb/in)

Rashad Greene - 5'11, 182 (2.56 lb/in)

Christion Jones - 5'10, 182  (2.6 lb/in)

Tyler Lockett - 5'10", 182 (2.6 lb/in)

J.J. Nelson - 5'10, 156 (2.23 lb/in)

Drake Harris is 6'4", 174... so significantly skinnier than every dude listed except J.J. Nelson.... and Nelson was the fastest dude at the combine (4.28 40) and is expected to be a returner only in the NFL because he's too small to play WR.

The whole beuaty of a Harbaugh team so far in his career is that it doesn't matter if the RB gets caught from behind because he's gonna average 4 yards per carry.  If you do the math that equals a touchdown.  Doesn't matter if the drives takes 10 seconds or 5 minutes, because both ways you wind up with 7 points.  If we get down I have full faith in this staff to have the gameplanning and clock management skills to speed it up and air it out.  Clark and Bunting on the field at the same time is gonna open things up so much for both the WRs and the running game.  Don't forget that the running game was finally starting to click after two years at the end of last year.  It was the passing game that was awful.  I can't wait to see this team in action.

It does matter if the drive takes 10 seconds or 5 minutes. Longer drives with more plays means more chances to screw up. Yes, it also means you get to control the clock if the situation calls for it.

And where did this idea that Harbaugh rush offenses average 4 yards a carry come from? His first year at Stanford they ave 4.9 YPC and every other year were above 5 YPC. All those were top-20 in the nation. That is a shredding run game, not a three yards/cloud of dust run game. Anecdotally, did you see that Orange Bowl against VT? I didn't see the RBs get caught from behind on their breakaways to long TDs.
