Seems to me that we pulled a young man who happened to recently win MVP in the MI/OH All-Star game away from PSU in this manner. Just like McDowell's recruitment should not have contained all the drama brought about by his parents, I don't necessarily like to lose top level talent to a rival - which won't be the case w/the Irish - for who knows how long, but when all is said and done, I want it to be the player's choice. We definitely have had and all will have a large number of h.s. AAs that grew up loving the maize and blue, that when kids chose where they really want to play we more than hold our own.  Now if we could just get back to winning 10-11 games consistently we would get even more because of the "Cool" factor.

He didn't really fit the big physical corners we have been going after anyways... I wasn't excited about his signing but best of luck to him

I'm appalled by anyone on here who's getting worked up over a decommit switching to a rival. If playing early is important to him damn right Michigan wasn't the right choice. Since he committed here Brandon Watson started looking likely to start post-Countess/Taylor if Lewis/Stribling/Peppers don't already have those down. Meanwhile ND switched to a more aggressive man defense that better fits Crawford's skillset. He was fair about the decision, giving the Michigan coaches ample time to replace him. Wish him best of luck and be thankful that 17-year-olds aren't forced to honor meaningless decisions they made at 16.

Although I don't like it, I'm not too worked up about it.  It's always nice to have a quality player and you never want to lose them to a rival, but I'd rather have Taylor if given the choice and am excited about UM's backfield potential.

But, wouldn't Crawford have to wait it out for guys like Butler, Luke, and Russell to move on before he would likely land a starting job at CB too?  I mean those guys are the same year as Stribs & Lewis.  Plus, I always hear guys like other talented guys to come to the same school and aren't afraid of competition because there will be competition everywhere.  Ty Isaac wasn't scared off by Green, Webber doesn't seem scared off by Isaac, etc.  And, it obviously doesn't bother Garrett Taylor (btw too many Taylors).  I get that every guy is different, but I personally disagree with your logic unless Crawford is saying that himself.  I just think for whatever reason he likes or feels more comfortable at ND which makes your head scratch but to each his own.  I hope he's happy and that UM has more success than ND does, cheers to both parties.

He's actually a really good player - instinctual, aggressive and plays really well in the open field. It's a loss to be sure - as may Harris and Campbell be. But let's not deride a kid for making the right decision for himself. Are we going to be there for him if he can't crack the starting line up but could have shined somewhere else where opportunity abounds? It's easy to be a fan and throw around words like honor and commitment but this isn't marriage and he's not in the military. There isn't the threat of prison or losing half your assets as a back stop. He plays football at a high level and he wants visibility with a style of play that will get him to the pros. Because I have never worn a football helmet I can't judge his metrics or reasoning. But if someone is willing to risk permanent injury for my bemusement like a roman gladiator, then he gets to pick the armor. Being a fan doesn't give people carte blanche to be douches to minors. Let's have some class, wish him the best and give someone else the golden ticket. I want someone to value all I've been given but I don't begrudge their desire to find that gift a place where they believe they will have a better chance to accept it. If you read this blog and this is where your heart will truly be happy, then congrats Shaun on what I hope will turn out to be the best decision FOR YOU! Because that is all that matters. Thanks for the perspective Seth

Recruiting is such a "feel" thing for kids. If you walk into a place and fall in love with it, change your mind, etc. then more power to ya. Besides we are stacked on the back end (or so it seems on paper). He might have sensed a better opportunity to play earlier at ND.

Im happy the kid gets to play where he wants. At the same time why was he committed to UM at all? Seemed like he always wanted Notre Dame and still had plenty of time to get an offer when he committed. After all these crazy early commits and decommits there should be some rule on early verbals being silent or noncommittal offers til a certain point, such as summer before senior year. That's not a slight at the athletes either, committing early puts an unnecessary pressure on them while they narrow down their choice of school.

As much as I hate to think of UM as anyones 2nd choice lets be real. UM will not be everyones first choice. Since the committment is only verbal why not commit until ND offers?

I dislike a decommit as much as the next guy but its part of the game.
