Let's hope there are some trade talks underway to help fill the talented coaches and staff that were recently part of Michigan's program with similar resources - analysts to coaches - from the Harbaugh tree.
February 5th, 2024 at 9:57 PM ^
Consideration to be determined later in trade for Mike Macdonald.

Would the acronym be - "CTBNL" - Coach to be named later?
Let's hope the pipeline continues to deliver.

I understand turnover is inevitable, but Harbaugh left late in the hiring cycle and doing this now certainly does not help Moore whatsoever. I don’t think it’s petty. I just think it’s bad form especially since the timing sucks.
February 5th, 2024 at 9:47 PM ^
Looks like John is collecting interest in kind after helping Jim out these past few years.
February 6th, 2024 at 11:02 AM ^
I like the idea of promoting from within, but too many good coaches have been taken for that to be our whole strategy. Moore is going to have to identify and hire some good outside coaches to fill in the gaps where people left
February 5th, 2024 at 9:48 PM ^
Everyone on this staff was/is a distinguished national champion. Sherrone Moore has a giant job on his hands. I think he is up to the task. But will he get the support he needs from Manuel?
February 5th, 2024 at 9:54 PM ^
The unfortunate answer is.....no.
February 5th, 2024 at 10:40 PM ^
Other than a message board rumor about how Warde supposedly didn't want to pay to keep Ben Herbert, is there any indication that he's not getting the support he needs from Warde?
February 5th, 2024 at 11:12 PM ^
NIL, not keeping Jesse Minter, and not getting the ND recruiting guy are three other things you can point to. We will know more when the dust clears with Elston and Clinkscale. If we lose both, it's not great on the athletic director front.
February 5th, 2024 at 11:57 PM ^
Was warde supposed to put a gun in minters mouth and force him to stay? He wasn’t going to be a college DC anymore, no one is choosing college DC jobs over nfl DC jobs right now
February 6th, 2024 at 8:27 AM ^
I don’t get where this talk about Minter staying with Michigan is coming from. There was a 100% chance Minter was a DC for a Harbaugh next season.
February 6th, 2024 at 10:07 AM ^
Turns out when you hire elite coordinators with deep NFL roots, they want to go back to the NFL and not have to worry about recruiting their roster 365 days a year. Who knew?
February 6th, 2024 at 10:59 AM ^
There is something in between apparently doing nothing and putting guns in anyone's mouth.
How about "Make good competitive offers and what happens happens"?
You may very well say "how do you know this didn't happen?"
I don't for sure.
But I suspect it didn't for the same reasons we believe things in general on this board. There was no report about a substantive offer to Minter, either for Michigan DC...or head coach.
You may be right. Maybe no reasonable amount of money would have mattered. If I'm Michigan (note I switched to "Michigan" instead of WM, to represent the whole decision making tree), I would have made a clear offer to Minter to make him the highest paid DC in college football +20%.
I'd be similarly aggressive with Elston and Clinkscale.
None of these things are guns. It's taking your best shot. FWIW (and that's not much) I don't believe Michigan is taking their best shot with these guys.

They made extremely competitive offers to both Minter and Elston, the problem is they wanted to go to the NFL for similar amounts of money and not having to recruit the roster as well as new players 365 days a year.
If you want to get mad at anyone, get mad at Warde for assuming hiring Moore would result in continuity.
February 7th, 2024 at 1:42 PM ^
FWIW, I'm not mad at anyone. I just don't think we did everything that could be done. Also - I didn't see the reports of "extremely competitive offers" to Minter and Elston. Every chance I missed them.
I have no argument against the reasons why someone might want to go to the NFL. There are also reasons to stay in a high quality situation like Michigan.. Assuming you have a competitive offer.
February 6th, 2024 at 12:48 AM ^
NIL has always had a negative connotation to me. I doubt that will change anytime soon.
February 6th, 2024 at 7:28 AM ^
I'm open to it if it means that the best historical "bag" schools (Alabama, Georgia, OSU, Clemson, etc.) get fewer highly ranked recruits going forward. You could extend the idea to basketball (Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, etc.).
February 6th, 2024 at 11:20 AM ^
Probably the most advantageous aspect for UM is the parity. Talent is far less concentrated than it once was.
February 6th, 2024 at 12:03 PM ^
I know Bama has a blip here with a new coach but apparently you haven't been looking at OSU concentrating even more talent now with their bags out in the open.
February 6th, 2024 at 8:17 AM ^
We were never keeping Jesse Minter. He is a through and through NFL guy who came to Michigan to get coordinator experience under an NFL coach running an NFL system.
Depending on how quick San Diego turns it around hell be ahead Voach in the NFLrelatively soon.
February 6th, 2024 at 11:33 AM ^
Flimsy evidence at best.
February 6th, 2024 at 6:04 AM ^
Other than hope that Warde is doing something in the background, do you have any proof that he's doing anything?
Seriously - can you point to one single time that Warde has provided front-end support to one of his programs? Everything he's done has been reactive. Everything. Not a single proactive stance on anything. Please prove me wrong and name one...
I mean, I hope he's doing something to actively help Sherrone, other than just sitting around waiting for Sherrone to ask for something.
February 6th, 2024 at 8:16 AM ^
The frightening thought is now that Warde has a neophyte as HC, he can control/manipulate to his desires. And I don't trust Warde..
February 6th, 2024 at 7:51 AM ^
I think there is plenty of evidence that the program is not getting the support it needs to compete at an elite level. Maybe not Moore specifically.
February 6th, 2024 at 8:05 AM ^
Must be nice to be Warde and have no checks and balances from a large portion of the fan base.
February 5th, 2024 at 11:21 PM ^
I love Sherrone and no doubt he'll put his best foot forward, but we're talking about a young, rookie HC tasked to replace a lot of pieces in short time frame while trying to maintain our current roster intact. That's a big ask.
February 6th, 2024 at 9:28 AM ^
Especially when you consider he’s never been a head coach before and is trying to lure guys away from the NFL to be his coordinator. That’s a tall order.
February 6th, 2024 at 3:17 AM ^
Sherrone needs to devise a strategy that includes Warde doing nothing. Any plan that requires help or support from Warde is doomed to fail because Warde ALWAYS strongly prefers doing nothing.
February 6th, 2024 at 9:29 AM ^
My concern is, does Coach Moore have the contacts and network to bring in Uber talented coordinators. I don’t know if that’s the case.
February 6th, 2024 at 10:01 AM ^
There are some things to be concerned about at the moment, but I'm not sure this is one of them. Mallory was an analyst at Michigan. He's now taking a position coach job - a definite promotion - at a higher level of football.
February 5th, 2024 at 9:53 PM ^
From defensive analyst to defensive backs coach. Congrats to Doug.

That link isn't right
February 5th, 2024 at 10:46 PM ^
At least the OP didn't link to a porn site
"Why, no, I never visit those type of sites"
February 5th, 2024 at 9:56 PM ^
This is interesting. I figured that he might, at 60, be in the mood for something relatively laid back (like an analyst position at his alma mater) as his last job. Good for him.
February 6th, 2024 at 8:20 AM ^
I think we had an exchange in this but I had heard he was a desired commodity and really helped with the communication on the back end.
February 6th, 2024 at 1:25 PM ^
I think I remember that. If what you heard is true, I underestimated Mallory's importance.
February 5th, 2024 at 9:57 PM ^
At last minute, Pac-12 may stay together & sign Grant of Rights. After Monday’s media rights offer, P12 held multiple zoom meetings this week. Arizona’s Bobby Robbins appeared fully committed to Pac-12 so much that one participant said: “If Arizona leaves, he should win an Oscar"

(I now see I'm not the first "Rob" to notice that the wrong tweeX got linked in the OP)
February 5th, 2024 at 10:00 PM ^
Edit: nevermind, i now see tweet is from August
February 5th, 2024 at 10:00 PM ^
I have no idea how he managed to link a tweet from August, that had nothing to do with Michigan or Mallory. Lol. Unless I'm missing something, and I'm the dumbass. Which is very possible.
February 5th, 2024 at 10:13 PM ^
With what TwiXtter has now turned into, I suppose the OP's accidental linked tweet could have been worse (or better, depending upon one's viewpoint).
It was already a cesspool but it's now (fittingly) an X-rated cesspool.

Did AZs guy get his Oscar?
February 5th, 2024 at 10:09 PM ^
Can’t we Atleast get the Ravens announcer or something to replace Mallory …

Michigan football is going to be fine :D
February 5th, 2024 at 10:22 PM ^
I would have thought there would be a plan. Other than Herbert and perhaps Mallory, none of the departures were what I’d call a surprise. But, it seems like we are completely flat footed w/o a clue. I hope this is just because I’m an uninformed fan. But, it’d be nice to see some hires.

I hate our fans

Moving Moore up to HC to maintain continuity in the program is sure working out swell so far. At least we held onto the nutritionist.
