Starting with the 247 recruiter ranking and then looking for position, past schools, commits and hometown is as good a place as any to start.

DL - Mike Elston (ND)

LB - Dan Lanning (Georgia)

They have multiple Gary level players on each D line.. thats easily the biggest difference.

Related question... which WDE or SDE remain unsigned for 2019 class and whom are their lead recruiters.  Short-list starting point.

So Zach Harrison decision makes even more sense now.....

01/02/2019 - 3:26pm if I have to pick two…

if I have to pick two between the DT's (Dwumfour, Kemp, Jeter) or the DE's (Paye, Hutchinson and ?) I feel more comfortable with the DT's at the moment than the DE's but you're right, I think Smith and or Hinton are both on the 2-deep in '19.

not sure i think any of the presumed DL starters can hold up in a 3 front and Luigi being healthy feels an awful lot like the Mone years...

01/02/2019 - 2:31pm yeah I was still counting…

yeah I was still counting him among the LB's but moving to DE would help if he can hold up there.

01/02/2019 - 2:11pm am i the only one who thinks…

am i the only one who thinks DE is a major concern?  I get that Paye seems capable of stepping in as a starter but who's the other guy(s)?  Seems like a giant ? for every one of them outside of perhaps Hutchinson.  That seem like a major drop-off from Gary and Chase that gets very little mention when it comes to positions of need.

One of the reasons I think the Harrison debacle (and to a lesser extend missing out on Karlaftis) sting so much.

DE still seems like a big need based on the current roster, the hope we had for ZH or Karlaftis

better hope its at least one DT and probably a rotation DE too.

I've seen this sentiment a lot but i wonder, objectively, what is the appropriate level of negatively given the recent circumstances?  On a scale of 1 - 10.  Between the game, Solomon, Dax, Harrison, the trio of Bailey, Crouch and Gray all going seemingly going to Tenn and Karlaftis staying put.... seems like a pretty terrible few weeks.  Even with Solomon flip from Miami and Keegan.

Of these top 3's  I think WR is the strongest, even without Black.

WR - DPJ, Collins, Martin/Bell,

DT - Dwumfour, Kemp, Jeter,

DE - Paye, Hutchinson, Vilain?

12/18/2018 - 11:14am excellent if true but not…

excellent if true but not sure it moves the needle on this team one way or the other the same way the recent D-line news does.

i think its pretty well documented that poor weather favors the underdog in that it introduces more variability which is usually what an less talented team needs to beat a more talented team.

I remember an NFL OL (Josh Sitton maybe) saying that switching from left side to right side on an o-line was like trying to wipe your backside with the other hand.

Which sounds... less than ideal.

06/06/2018 - 10:38am I don't think there has ever…

I don't think there has ever been more than a 10% chance this would happen... its just as likely that he's simply being interviewed and involved with the Pistons because A) he's close and B) he's so respected as a basketball coach.  Unless you think Beilein's been hiding this massive ego all these years, I don't see this obvious draw to coaching that team, in that league at the age of 65 esp given his current status / success at Michigan.

02/19/2018 - 12:11pm no

i would not be an osu, bama, etc fan.

i do not care how successful they are

but i care where recruits go since its histroically highly correlated to long term success.

02/19/2018 - 12:07pm yes, but

this dude was not jsut offered, he was verbally committed and for a long time.

02/19/2018 - 12:05pm yes, this is kinda the point

Just because 2018 was a "down" year doesn't mean i have to  force this narrative that 2019 is the cure all when its soo far away and we just saw what happened last year with early commits.

The "JH can do no wrong" crowd is just as ridiculous as the "JH should be fired" crowd

02/19/2018 - 12:03pm happy now?

just for you trueblue...

02/07/2018 - 10:44am panic might be strong

but its hard to undersell how terrible the last month of recruiting has been for Michigan..

- DT Friday picks OSU at the last minute

- OT NPF goes from total toss up to OSU at last minute

- OT Patterson picks ND who just lost their OLine coach

- WR Chase who had picked up some stream drops off the board

- LB Reese, a long long time commit flips to Georgia

- Michigan signs its 5th DB for reasons unknown

- Michigan gets a 6th DB (transfer) for reasons unknown

- Michigan picks up PWO Kicker and QB......

"waves tiny flag"

02/07/2018 - 10:16am true but..

he also wrote a short update about it on the site too

02/07/2018 - 10:09am Wiltfong ballz

Reese to Georgia....

02/07/2018 - 9:48am meh

having no one on the board is what waters it down.... i bet things are pretty lively in South Bend, Clemson, Tallahassee, etc...

02/07/2018 - 9:44am who said don't take him?

if you came to that conclusion i think you should re-read the thread

02/07/2018 - 9:08am yeah...

these replies basically confirm my worries... and whether or not an incoming FS could have started is not the point.  The issue here is that this groups needs more bullets in the chamber than any other group on the team

02/07/2018 - 8:46am Otis Reese

whether they keep him or not seem fairly irrelevant when compared to how poorly the Oline recruiting has been.  It's conceivable that they don't have a single starting level OT on the roster which is alarming.  I feel a lot better about prospects at LB/V than I do OT and that's with or without Reese.

02/06/2018 - 3:03pm they have a strong relationship

with a guy who is leaving for the NFL... cool

02/06/2018 - 1:47pm 2/6/18

5:45 in....."Michigan still has a shot" coming from "well placed sourvces" in tampa

02/06/2018 - 1:35pm complaining about "recruiting"

on the whole i think is misplaced and fairly ignorant but i think its totally fair to complain about the offensive line recruiting in particular OT.  They may not have a single quaity starting tackle on their entire roster and that is fair to judge harshley until proven otherwise especially since this has been an ongoing issue.

02/06/2018 - 1:30pm his recruiting roundup

his recruiting roundup

02/06/2018 - 1:17pm not exactly true

for whatever its worth Sam just said yesterday they were still in it and Trieu said something similar recently.

01/31/2018 - 10:15am No mention of J. Patterson

i get it, everyone loves Sam and he has access to information that almost no one else gets but the cost of that access is he can almost never say anything critical of the team.  Not even mentioning the fact that one of the most important recruits left on the board has dropped Michigan seems a bit odd considering the name of his segment is "recruiting roundup"

01/02/2018 - 11:06am Hoke was 4 years ago...

i simply mean that of the 3 seasons Harbaugh has had at Michigan, you can make the arguement that its gotten steadily worse.  Esp with offense.

01/02/2018 - 10:20am i felt ..

not much yesterday to be honest.  I found out this wasn't a very good team but in fact i already knew that.  The real alarming thing is that they may have been getting worse for the last 3 years and not better.  It does feel like some head(s) have to roll to get anythign going here.

The WTKA guys seems to have settled on "nothings guaranteed" and "Jim's staying so nothing else matters" narrative which...doesn't exactly instill confidence, nor is it particularly insightful.

i'm hoping over the weeks and months to come, MGOBLOG will fill that void

12/11/2017 - 1:52pm This is a bad take

The vast majority of Wentz runs, including this one, are not designed.  It's just him chosing to scramble and having the athletisicm to make that work.  He's had very few designed QB runs this year.

And when you say "run that offense" I have no idea what you mean.  They run a ton of RPO but those are not QB run options those are RB run options.  He takes hits for a lot of reasons, designed running is not one of them.

to sum up.. .your take was awful

11/21/2017 - 12:46pm Youth issue

I'm looking for a more sound reason why "youth" is largely being blamed for most (all) of the teams problems this year yet the defense is every bit as young and they have been good to very good, the offense on the other hand has topped out at mediocre.

The only answer i have seen so far is "offense is harder"... it can't be that simple, can it?

10/15/2017 - 11:46am maybe

but who's to say Peters can't pull a Sam Darnold or, from the NFL, a Deshaun Watson. maybe he's just a gamer and doesn't shine in practice. I'm not saying this is likely, but I'm certain JOK isn't the answer. Purdue was the outlier... everything else says he is who we thought he was.

10/15/2017 - 10:42am 5 yards passing in a half

is not "run heavy", its "run only" and you cannot win that way against good teams. If that is how little faith the coaches have in JOK, you gotta sit him.

10/14/2017 - 6:09pm nothing to gain with Okorn

he is exactly what he looks like and you cannot win against a good team with him. Maybe Peters can't do it either but ill take a maybe over a definitely not any chance I get.

10/10/2017 - 4:28pm Blame Don Brown!

of course this is slightly tounge in cheek but the defense having so much success and looking so compitent with some many new starters does really make the offense look that much worse comparitively.

Why can we replace talented departures with youth and inexperience across the board on one side and be totally inept on the other?  I understand that offense may be harder to pick-up in college and especially on the O-liine but the regression seems pretty severe.

07/06/2017 - 12:50pm Corral

i would think Georgia's QB depth chart is even harder to crack than Michigans with Eason and Fromm both there already.

02/01/2017 - 10:13pm Mason

Didn't he day today he was playing LB?

Also, The left side of the oline... Not great Bob

01/30/2017 - 12:24pm Chad Simmons on Willie

Just said he thinks Michigan is out and its MissSt or LSU... for whatever that's worth

01/23/2017 - 11:36am This seems not so subtle..

"—it looks like they'll get one more"... buckle up?

01/17/2017 - 12:27pm Seems logical

even if they are different kind of WR's you can't help but see the trend to Georgia and think this is the case.  I assume the same thing about Ellis Brooks and Willie Gay even tho they too are very different kind of LB's.

01/05/2017 - 9:01pm Swing for the fence

Can we light a candle or sacrifice a chicken or something in the hopes of grabbing Austin Jackson... He continues to mention Michigan and possible visits. 5* left tackle would be pretty OK.

01/05/2017 - 5:48pm Grad transfer

Not sure the staff would want to go this route on the OL but it looks like Cam Dillard an OL from Florida is going to be a transfer. He's originally from Michigan...

01/04/2017 - 12:21pm OL position uncertainty

I'm not sure adding another OT just for the sake of adding one makes a ton of sense unless you know for sure where the other current commits are slotted to play.

Everyone one of the other line commits mentioned above plays the same position (OT) and issignificantly higher ranked than Bateman, including Becton who's still out there.  I would be curious who, if any, are actually being projected to OG where there are current no listed commits.  (Assuming Paea still listed as a DT).

01/03/2017 - 12:08pm Not mutually exlusive

You can think Harbaugh is a terrific coach/recruiter and think the class is fantastic but also point out giant hole on the depth chart of both sides of the line.  Feels like a certain portion of the board believe that any complaint is ill-placed.

When injury plagued Mone is 50% of your experienced interior D-line there should be some angst about not getting a true NT in the class.  Same goes for OG and OT where there is next to no proven depth currently on the roster.

The thing i find so difficult it really knowing whether {player X} is a SDE, DT, etc.  Same for a lot of the SS / LB shuffling in the Don Brown system.  Could be the staff has a different expectation for postiion than the recruiting profile suggests.
