OT: Nice to see Iowa football is trying
'Cause if you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin'!
We know recently former Alabama OL Kadyn Proctor has travelled through the portal to Iowa. The former 5-star recruit is from Iowa and had committed to the Hawkeyes before flipping to the Crimson Tide, so maybe not a surprise. The new news is that earlier this season, when he was apparently struggling, someone from Iowa contacted young Kadyn with words of reassurance. On one hand, this is a kind and thoughtful gesture offered to a young man even though he chose to take his talents somewhere else. On the other hand, this is tampering.
I can imagine Cade thinking, "Damn, I could have used a 5-star offensive lineman."

The real test will be who they hire as an offensive coordinator
January 20th, 2024 at 7:16 PM ^
They can't possibly do worse.
January 20th, 2024 at 7:20 PM ^
That sounds like a challenge - there were 2-3 slots below Iowa - something to shoot for.
January 20th, 2024 at 7:41 PM ^
This is rarely the truth but it certainly is here. Brian Ferentz as an OC was historically bad. You almost literally cannot do a worse job. I'm 75% sure that anyone on this board would do a better job if hired tomorrow.
January 21st, 2024 at 6:57 AM ^
I'll have to move a few things around in my schedule (TV, ice cream, gaming) but otherwise I'm available.
January 20th, 2024 at 7:41 PM ^
I could show up half drunk with a “calling plays for dummies” book and do a better job.
January 20th, 2024 at 9:05 PM ^
I hear Kirk Ferentz has his eyes set on one particular candidate. An "unknown coach from the next town over, you wouldn't know them. " Ryan Berentz. Lots of excitement coming out of Iowa City these days.

If they really believe in Punt to Win they can try.

Wait. They still haven’t hired anyone? Are they waiting for the NFL coaching cycle to end?
January 20th, 2024 at 7:59 PM ^
I didn’t realize that they haven’t hired anyone, yet. Maybe they’re just staying really quiet and the leave Brian in the position, hoping no one will notice.

Phuck Iowa!

I think Matt Patricia is available. Has NFL OC experience...

Some geniuses scooped up Bill O’ , so this would be the next best choice.
January 20th, 2024 at 7:17 PM ^
Eh, it's still Iowa, moving forward they don't have the luxury of just winning
a weak division to make the B1G CG, that's going to be a very rare occurrence
like once or twice in a 20 year span....maybe.
January 20th, 2024 at 11:45 PM ^
They've been there 3 out of the last 8 years (and would be 4 of the last 14...fwiw).
January 21st, 2024 at 7:25 AM ^
They had to be better than northwestern and Wisconsin to make the title game. Now they have to be better than all but one of Michigan, Oregon, OSU, USC, Washington, and Penn State. They will never make it under this current format
January 21st, 2024 at 9:30 AM ^
I’m tempted to agree - but, you have to look at the schedule.
January 21st, 2024 at 11:35 AM ^
they have to be better than all but one of Michigan, Oregon, OSU, USC, Washington, and Penn State
They don't have to be better, they just have to have a better record than all but one of those. They may not play many of them given the unbalanced schedule (9 opponents out of 17).
January 21st, 2024 at 6:28 PM ^
nevermind, already mentioned
January 21st, 2024 at 8:23 AM ^
As the person to whom you replied said, "moving forward they don't have the luxury of just winning a weak division to make the B1G CG" So your fwiw = eh, not much.

I just wish Michigan would hire a firm to gather proof and details of all this crap going on with other teams. Have some ammo when needed for a face off with the NCAA. I know it’s expensive and also goes against what Michigan traditionally does.
Sad thing is it feels like NCAA might have already won if JH is gone to the NFL. I have so many other things in my life that really matter, and I can’t stand how much this BS really bothers me. Thank god for the championship!

Entering the portal to the 19th century Iowa offense?
Highly illogical, Captain.

A pass. To a tight end. On a waggle.
January 20th, 2024 at 7:27 PM ^
Nebraska has also paid big bucks for portal players. Their talent is increasing and may be rising to being a mid level B1G team now.
January 20th, 2024 at 8:13 PM ^
I can imagine Cade thinking, "Damn, I could have used a 5-star offensive lineman."
Who cares about Cade. He blows.
JJ reached out to Cade when he's injured via instagram to wish him well...no response.
Michigan wins the NC, former teammates ie Henning, Anthony, etc congratulate them. And not a peep from Cade. Petty, spiteful bastard. Can't believe he was a captain. Embarrassing.
January 21st, 2024 at 12:24 PM ^
Cade was already salty about how things went. Cant imagine how salty he is now that JJ won a title
January 20th, 2024 at 8:16 PM ^
Iowa has no appeal anymore. They don’t get to say “come play in the weakest division in all of P5 and you’ll get to Indy at least once while you’re here.
They are now left to fend for themselves in a free for all amongst fifteen other teams. Probably ten of which are at least as good as if not better than Iowa.
January 21st, 2024 at 8:06 AM ^
Proof: They reached out to Paul Chryst, former WI HC who is now a lowly analyst at Texas, to see if he was interested in the OC job. He chose to remain an analyst at Texas instead.

January 20th, 2024 at 8:48 PM ^
Iowa and OSU are getting guys from the Portal that had them second on their list, but the National Champions Michigan are not (Dante Moore and Collins Acheampong). I know Proctor is an Iowa native, but D. Moore is a Michigan native, and Iowa's NIL is no better than Michigan's from what it seems like.
Michigan is having horrible luck from the Portal with guys they should have gotten as high school recruits. We all talk about Harbaugh deserving to make whatever choice he wants, but at some point he has to stop holding Michigan hostage from moving forward. We should not only be celebrating a championship, but also getting better for next year, not worry about who the coach will be next year like the fanbase has nearly half of Harbaugh's time at Michigan.
January 20th, 2024 at 10:07 PM ^
Except that Harbaugh has been doing this the last three years and it doesn’t seem to be hurting our success.
I was worried about it initially but given we just won the national title I’m ok with just letting Harbaugh be Harbaugh.
January 20th, 2024 at 10:56 PM ^
Except that Harbaugh has been doing this the last three years and it doesn’t seem to be hurting our success.
Not yet. At some point these shenanigans will come back to bite us. I’m all for giving Harbaugh a wide berth but there comes a point where I think we need to also consider what is best for Michigan. Much as I am ecstatic we finally won it all, the thing that is better than winning the national championship once is winning it twice. This drawn out drama is not setting us up for sustained success. We already have to deal with the NCAA garbage next season, we don’t need to start behind the eight ball in recruiting if we are breaking in a new head coach. It would be a shame if we just worked this hard to re-establish ourselves only to go into rebuild mode immediately after this run. We should be reloading and not rebuilding.
January 21st, 2024 at 12:21 AM ^
I mean he’s been doing it for the last three seasons and it doesn’t seem to have hurt yet. This is just the cost of doing business with Harbaugh. But the flip side is fhe success he’s had.
January 21st, 2024 at 1:31 PM ^
Harbaugh did this in 2021 and this year. Last year there were rumors, but to my knowledge there was no interview by Harbaugh with an NFL team. Michigan loaded up on Portal guys last year before the CFP, and solidified recruiting before, as well.
In 2021 when Harbaugh interviewed with the Vikings, recruiting buzz was dead because no one knew who was going to be Michigan's head coach in 2022. Yes! NIL was a big factor, but Harbaugh's lack of wanting to be at Michigan over the NFL was huge in recruiting. Luckily Michigan had their entire recruiting class signed for 2024 before Harbaugh could re-enter the NFL drama and hold Michigan back a little in recruiting until he gets either his rejection from the NFL, or gets a job there.
Right now I believe Harbaugh is working next year for Michigan because that is where his job is at, but not giving faith in the University, program, players, recruits and the fans that he will be back next year is possibly a big reason transfers are not coming here.

January 21st, 2024 at 1:09 PM ^
It wasn't surprising that he committed to Iowa. He was reportedly homesick and it was a natural coming back home for Proctor. Iowa is known for developing OL so it's a great landing spot for him.
January 21st, 2024 at 1:36 PM ^
Not to mention Iowa was in contact with him during the regular season according to Proctor.
January 21st, 2024 at 7:55 PM ^
I mean tampering is rampant but no one gives a shit. It's frowned upon but never really enforced
