Harbaugh contract update murmurings from @MichiganNation2

Submitted by Communist Football on November 30th, 2023 at 5:19 PM

Twitter's @MichiganNation2 has been one of the people working with StalBombs on putting out pro-Michigan Signgate information (or rumors, depending on your point of view). He tweets today that he believes the "terms [of the Harbaugh agreement] have pretty much been knocked out," and include listing Sherrone Moore as the HC-in-waiting; an increase in the assistant salary pool; and more NIL commitment.

More Michigan News:
Gonna give it to you straight no matter what regarding the Harbaugh contract talks.
-Originally was slated to be signed the week of Ohio State. At least that was the push. The suspension put that on hold.
- Now it's being said it could be done before…

Let's hope it gets done fast.  The media is so fucking annoying.  I just saw an article with the headline "Jim Harbaugh linked to Bears ..."  Well, it turns out that within the Bears organization they talked about bringing in Harbaugh IF HE DECIDES TO LEAVE COLLEGE BALL.   In other words, there is absolutely no link at all.  Talk about click-bait-y headlines.   Kinda sounds like all the headlines linking Harbaugh to the so-called sign stealing.

Apparently, I was blocked on Twitter by MichiganNation2. Not sure why since I never responded to his and Stalbombs # posts other than to support them.

Welp, we can only hope the coach wants to remain in Ann Arbor past this season. Looks like three of Harbaugh's former NFL teams maybe looking for a new coach, including the Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears and Los Angeles Chargers.

It is just bonkers to me that people keep falling for this stuff. One more time for the people in the back. UM has never had insiders that would provide this kind of info to anyone, let alone random Twitter people. They damn sure don’t have inside info on what Jim MFing Harbaugh is going to do.

There's a kind of "insider" that specializes in putting out stories that are more or less exactly what Michigan fans want to hear, as much as possible within the realm of still sounding reasonably believable.  Do we have any more reason to find this guy any more credible than the Buckeye insiders who swear up and down that Michigan is going to have to fire everybody and vacate wins back to Bump Elliot?

Ok can we agree that if (a) this is true and the contract is signed and announced before Saturaday that this is amazing and (b) if this is false we'll never post about MichiganNation2 again?

Last week they said Day to TAMU was a done deal.

Even if the person behind the account has some connections, they are still throwing shit against the wall. Something will stick.

I wonder what "More NIL commitment" means. The school doesn't control NIL, though I suppose it could be some provision that vaguely promises to support NIL initiatives of third parties. Not sure if this suggests that the reporting is bunk, or if there is something more that the school could actually promise.

Fun Fact:

Lloyd Carr was an Assistant Coach at Michigan for FIFTEEN YEARS before finally becoming the Head Caoch.

My fever dream is for Sherrone Moore to duplicate that.  This is his 6th year at Michigan.

Maybe Jim is the HC for 6-7 more years and then Moore takes over?  A guy can dream, right?

Expect Moore to be the HC next season.  Why...

-The B1G is done with their investigation of signal-gate, but the NCAA is not.  The NCAA moves much slower than the B1G, and may not punish UM no matter what it finds. The problem is that the NCAA investigation will go on through 2024, 2025, hopefully ending in 2026.  Harbaugh doesnt want to put up with that crap.  NCAA officials randomly on campus, asking questions of coaches and players.  Any coach or player who refuses to answer questions only makes matters worse.  Yep.  Harbaugh wants no part of that.

- Harbaugh, at the beginning of the season said UM will put 20 players into the 2024 NFL draft.  That's a bit high, but not my much.  UM will put 17-20 of its best players into the 2024 NFL draft.  Next season will not be a reloading season for UM, as it is most seasons.  2024 will be a rebuilding season for UM.  Harbaugh doesnt want to coach a rebuilding season.  Why?  Reason #3....

-Next season.  Have you looked at UM's schedule?  Dear god.  It's the most difficult schedule UM has ever played.  Considering Michigan will put 17-20 of it's best players into the NFL, then play that schedule?  Why would Harbaugh want to return to such a schedule, when reason #4 for Harbaugh leaving UM is right in front of us, we just have to be honest with ourselves (which Michigan men always do) and admit...

- Harbaugh's most important goal in life is to win a Super Bowl.  Never won a SB as a player.  Came close as a HC.  How many more chances will Harbaugh have to win a SB?  Probably one more chance.  Harbaugh turns 60 in less than a month.  With the above challenges, if Harbaugh is going to win that life-changing SB, he needs to give the NFL another try ASAP, and he knows that.  This is why Harbaugh has not received a new contract from UM.  Not because of the signal-gate scandal, but because UM knows Harbaugh's leaving for the NFL, and will reject any offer UM gives Harbaugh.

Be happy we had Harbaugh for 9 seasons.  In the modern era, UM's had 3 really good coaches.  Bo (duh), Carr (won the NC in 97', and consistently provided good to great teams) and Harbaugh.  Harbaugh's 9 years at UM is the longest stint he's ever had as a HC.  Harbaugh simply isnt the type of person who stays anywhere for any good length of time.  Unless Jim wins a SB, he will always be known as one of UM's greatest modern coaches.  Accept that.  Relish that.  Tough to find college HCs as good as Harbaugh.  We were lucky to have him.

Counter to Reason 1: There may not be a NCAA in 2026.

Counter to Reason 2; Have you seen the DL? Portal is an option and Harbaugh loves developing players from what I saw in the last 9 years.

Counter to Reason 3: Harbaugh is a competitor. Do you really think he is afraid of Washington, USC, Oregon? Didn't he coach at Stanford? And he beat USC with Stanford players. It will be much easier with UM players. And USC does not play defense.

Be optimistic about Harbaugh. Go Blue!

Presumably before posting this you spoke to Harbaugh yourself and got it straight from him, right?

Presumably this isn't just a projection of what you'd do if you were Harbaugh?

And no doubt you're always right with your prognostications, every time, even if the above two questions can't be answered with a "yes".

Since none of this has happened, I'm just going to call it guesswork. Because you don't know any more than the rest of us.

Yeah, that doesn't really make sense. Big Ten already closed their investigation (according to our statement, anyway). It might piss of the other schools but...oh well.

The tweet also says they wouldn't wait for the NCAA investigation to close because that could take forever. Makes sense, so it's not a concern about pissing off the NCAA.

I don't know, maybe they just figure a no sudden movements strategy is the safest path until the season is actually over.

Also, could be waiting for the NFL coaching cycle...
